Sorry, will rephrase.

So, where do you all predict this film will end up when it is all said and done? Will it hang on to it's fresh rating or end up rotten?

Rotten.

The current trend of the reviews coming in isn't working in the movie's favor for it to stay fresh, but I don't think the RT rating is going to take a drastic dive before all is said and done.

My prediction is that if it goes down more into rotten territory, it won't be lower than 54-55%.

I'm sorry to those who are fans of this movie, but this review captured my gut reaction to the film after seeing it. Sure, I'm not going to go as far as saying that I feel "done" with Spider-Man altogether, but I certainly feel "done" and drained from this film franchise. I find the TASM movies to be overall soul-sucking.

I do like that he mentioned that there were some aspects to the film he liked, but they simply weren't enough for him to change his opinion of the movie. I totally agree with that. There are some good moments of the film, but they're too few and far in between.

Meh.

If ASM2 ends up being 'Rotten' it will join movies that I love that are Rotten like Predator 2. Admittedly there aren't many movies I like that are Rotten on RT (probably less than 5 movies). I guess I'll file ASM2 under 'guilty pleasure'.

Why do that though? I mean, I don't see eye-to-eye with you on the film, but if you love the movie, then love the movie without guilt! Don't let other people's opinions make you feel guilty for liking something. Something like the critics or the Tomatometer shouldn't make you feel ashamed for liking something. :)

Well said.

Because I'd rather people not look at me like I'm mad. You know, the way you look at people who say they like GL or B&R. I'm not going to hide my love of ASM2 under a bushel but I'm not going to shout it from the rooftops either.

I'm going to shout it from the rooftops, TASM2 was an awesome spectacle that had an emotional impact that to me, trancended its structural problems. However, future films can improve by being both well structured and emotionally powerful. Totally respect people who are harsher than me who dislike the film, and even those who are usually easy on films who dislike it. It's a film that you can dislike, but to me, I just cannot do it, a whole two weeks after viewing the film for the first time. There may not even be a good reason for this other than my bad taste in movies, but hey, it is how it is.

All RT is a collective measure of people's reactions to a film, not a direct measure of quality, the only definitive measure for that in reality is yourself.

I'm going to go out and say it now, TASM3 is going to save the franchise amongst critics and fans alike. I have absolute faith in this franchise. Sony and the writers need to up their game however.

I have less faith than you because the stand out feature from ASM1 and 2
Gwen/Peter dynamic
will gone.

There's plenty of ways they can handle her death, just off the top of my head, and it's been mentioned plenty of times, Mysterio.

Honestly the most convienient villian you could think of, and he just seems so perfect for the film, there's no way it could be a coincidence. Killing off Emma Stone is a generally bad idea in a film, because she's, you know, Emma Stone, it'd be suicide unless they have some plan going forward. (Some may argue Sony don't though :cwink:) I think Mysterio is that factor, he works with the plot, he can make Peter hurt, keep that dark theme with a truely sadistic villian that critics love. Could be an absolute heartbreaker too, as to beat him he'll have to truely let her go, this opens things up for MJ clearly.

Obviously you need to incorporate the Osborns into it, I was thinking of making Mysterio the medium, maybe he doesn't want to kill spider-man straight up as that'd make him a martr for the city, maybe he wants people to "see" (illusions) how bad Spidey is, so he can make himself the hero and kill him? Mak him selfish, emotional and manipulative. (Even if it's not too close to the source material, we can retcon him a little, trying to impress critics here and nobody cared about the sympathetic doc ock so as long as you don't pull a doc ock it's all good.) Well the Osborns could be the opposite, maybe they just want spiderman dead, then you've got this whole clashing thing and I'm sure you could develop characters off that. Just a few examples;

Mysterio is disguised as Spiderman, Green Goblin is chasing after "Spiderman", yells out, does villian things, mysterio undisguises, turns around, a big oh *** moment. Then they could do some talky exposition thing.

Spiderman fighting Mysterio for the last time, he throws up an illusion of Gwen, it doesn't phase him this time, he's put his memory of her away, and he defeats Mysterio, despite all his efforts to throw him off emotionally.

Obviously not cinematic brilliance, not even good, but there's potential from here for sure.

+10000 BRAB although I didn't see structural problems. Loving the movie has nothing to do with you having bad taste or not either, I'd say it's the contrary here.

Oh of course Tim, I'd tend to agree the problems were only minor to me, but I want to be fair to people who didn't like the film. For me personally, I didn't see the problems in the first or second viewing and it was ony when they were pointed out by users on here that I figured it out!

I appreciate hearing I may have good taste as well!

I didn't think this movie would be great but I never thought TASM2 would be the 1st Spider-Man movie to get a rotten rating.

This also made me less excited to watch the movie tomorrow.

Do people need validation for there ratings or something. Mindsets to this film should be neutral, being psychologically negative will get people no where when it comesto viewing the film. Seems to me alot of people underestimate how mindsets can affect how we see things to a greater degree.

Hence the reason I avoid reviews before viewing movies.

Don't you think it's possible that you saw the "problems" because other people told you about it, and then subconsciously you were looking and finding stuff that you wouldn't have otherwise?

That's why it's bad to focus on RT score because suddenly, plenty of people here for example will go in expecting to be disappointed, a completely different state of mind that will inform what they think of the movie, whether they realize or not, really.

@Daywalker: you nailed it right on the head, no matter what some are saying, they will go in expecting something bad from the movie, and it will taint their opinion.
