The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rotten Tomatoes score? - Part 3

Once again, this series has had script issues for 2 straight films. That is partly the director's fault, and he needs held accountable for HIS film. Not dump the blame on other people. He could have asked for rewrites.

True, but look what happened to Raimi with SM3. He wanted Vulture in the film, the studio wanted Venom because they knew it would rake in mega bucks. Sometimes the director doesn't get what he wants, the studio is the wallet, they ultimately make the decisions one way or another. Villains were stuffed in this movie to make way for their spin off films.

To be fair, we don't really have the context for the second movie. I think you can blame Webb for the first one because of the deleted scenes and the weird pacing (which was a dumb idea to take out). However, it seems like the 2nd movie screams Studio Interference, with the inclusion of the villains. I don't think there's much Webb could do if that's the case.

How were they stuffed? Only one I could see being unnecessary is Electro.

The main culprit seems to be the script, Sony rushed the whole project instead of taking some time to do script polishing and the movie suffered.

They (Sony) really need to give adequate time to develop the story and script, the lesson to be learnt here is that a sup-par movie will not be very successful...even if it is a Spider-Man movie.

But Raimi had 2 liked movies priuor to SM3. While Webb's films have been lukewarm received. That shows 2 films he has done this. Therefore, he needs to be held accountable. Especially when both films have the same issues.

Haven't seen the movie, but from what I've heard the Goblin is in it for a few minutes, along with the Rhino.

Sad thing about Raimi is the studio didn't trust him even after two ultra successful and very highly praised Spider-Man movies. That being said, he had some pretty bad ideas himself (Sandman was poorly done, Uncle Ben retcon, Vulture and Vulturess ideas, etc.).

I've said for years...I can't believe young people today actually let sites like Rt determine what they watch and in some cases like.

Like I've always said, it's a consensus thing. When a movie gets panned how often is it truly wrong that the movie is bad? My brother uses RT because he has a wife and 4 kids and as you can imagine it's expensive as hell to take a family to the movies these days. He's been burned in the past so when a movie gets panned I can see why he's hesitant to shell out money for tickets and concessions for something that may be less than satisfying.

The same goes for young people scraping to get by.

UGH… I'm sad for Spidey… but the RT score is like watching a trainwreck in very, very slow-motion.

Also, if a movie deserve the low score, then so be it. It does kind of make me want to go this weekend to see if it does LOL!!

I think accountability will be had if there is a poor box office return. There is no way Sony keeps the same director if this bombs at the BO. Someone also needs to be accountable for the marketing of this movie which has been quite frankly ridiculous and by all accounts a huge amount of money spent.

Rhino's screentime was pretty perfect, but the Goblin could've used more.

It is pretty amazing, right? I mean, I've agreed with the critics before (TASM2 is a most recent example of my agreeing with them), but they definitely don't determine my enjoyment level of a film and they don't determine my decision about whether I want to go see a specific film or not.

The real shock over any of this is why Sony went with Kurtzman and Orci. Other than the Star Trek movies and MI3, all of their movies end up under 60% on Rottentomatoes.com. So far ASM2 is pretty much in line with what they put out there.

What's Webb's background? Whedon's a writer, so him rewriting The Avengers script made sense.

It's going to drop below 50%, only half the reviews are in.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I'm shocked. The critics aren't being as kind to this like I expected.

You guys know that baumer is mocking this forum and posting the PMs he received about his banning on the box office boards? They're all having a huge laugh right now.

Magic is another alias of Baumer as well.

@Suzanne: thinking like this is precisely why a lot of those expecting it to "suck" because the RT score seemingly indicates that the movie is meh, will see the movie & agree with the consensus.

I might be biased as well, but at least, I'm not letting it inform my opinion, internet trolls who haven't seen it are loving it and have already written their review before seeing it, you know, it's kind of like Lone Ranger. You got plenty of critics & people sharpening their knives months & months before the movie comes out.

What's your rating of the movie Leenie?

Has baumer been banned yet?

Marc Webb was previously a music video director before he directed his first film, (500) Days of Summer (and indie flick), which turned out to be a wonderful little film in my opinion.

After that, he moved onto Spider-Man.

Even if Webb didn't personally rewrite the script, he could have sought out the appropriate individual for the rewrites. And while Webb is the director, he is still aware of what makes a good/bad script...hopefully.
