The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rotten Tomatoes score? - Part 3

Are RT scores really that important ? Transformer movies did well despite having low RT scores, those people who want some entertainment will go and see this movie.

What's your rating of the movie Leenie?

I'm still honestly trying to figure it out (to give it as fair of a rating as I can), so I'm letting the movie sit in my brain for a bit before I give it a score. I plan on writing a review of it sometime this weekend.

I will say that I disliked the movie a lot, though. That much is certain. From a technical standpoint, I think it's the weakest Spider-Man film to date (but there were a few things I liked more than the first TASM). I'm siding with the critics on this one, overall.

Magic is another alias of Baumer as well.

I think they're two different people, unless Baumer has two accounts on the Box Office site (unlikely since he is a moderator there). He mentioned that he won't attempt to post here again and he was just having some fun.

You guys know that baumer is mocking this forum and posting the PMs he received about his banning on the box office boards? They're all having a huge laugh right now.

How will I ever get to sleep tonight?

Oh...yeah, the way I do any night...easily.

Even if Webb didn't personally rewrite the script, he could have sought out the appropriate individual for the rewrites. And while Webb is the director, he is still aware of what makes a good/bad movie...hopefully.

Re-writes take some time...what if the Studio refused to grant permission for rewrites, it's possible that Sony wanted to get this movie released as soon as possible.

What could Webb do in such a situation ?

That's the situation that I think likely happened. I doubt they refused rewrites, but I do think they wanted to pop this movie out as fast as possible.

This movie is pretty far from perfect, but if it ends below Spider-Man 3 it'll be a testament (yet another) to how unreliable RT can be.

Well, I knew this would end up being rotten. This just seems exactly what happened to MoS last year.

Again, I don't know how you can determine if a movie "deserves" it's ratings or not. The ratings are what they are, people will go to see the movie or not.

The Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean are two franchises that can buck the trend of negative reviews. To a certain extent Spider-man can as well (at least from SM3).

I'll go see this despite the reviews, and I'm going in with an open mind, but I have a feeling this is going to pale compared to TWS, and perhaps even DOFP and GOTG, but the jury is still out on those films.

I don't think this is going to be a bad film, I have a feeling it's going to be a "been there done that" film that treads no new ground, is serviceable to the character, but an overall disappointment. So I'm sure there will be a lot of cries of "why did this get rated lower than SM3" much the way people complained of MoS last year compared to SR.

I'm not going to comment further on comparisons until I've seen the film myself, but I have a feeling this will be a film much like MoS where the proponents see none of the flaws and the opponents see more flaws than content (I'd be in the latter category). I can see the polarization already, and I'm sure to some extent that will taint my view of the film.

Look, there's so much going on but we can't know who's responsible for that or whatever, there are so many rewrites taking place during a movie, so many drafts even though Emma said in an interview a couple of days ago that the movie is pretty much what was on the page aside from some stuff at the end of the movie.

Y'all are acting like the script was terrible and it's not, at all.

oops went back to 57

56?

I'm on my phone, you know that scene in Dark Knight where Joker says 6 after the guy tells him how many if his friends he killed? Can someone post that?

Wow. I didn't expect it to be this bad. This is Man of Steel level.

In a way this (low RT score) is a good thing... this will serve as a wake-up call for Sony and they will give more time for script writes in future.

In other words, they will not rush to make a sub-par movie.

I hope. :csad:

Well IMO, the scripts is pretty terrible. And really, with Orci and Kurtzman writing, who didn't see this coming?

I've said for years...I can't believe young people today actually let sites like Rt determine what they watch and in some cases like.

Siskel & Ebert had just as big an effect, back in the day.

Acceptance is a pretty strong desire by young folks. The Rotten Tomato score is what critics are giving it, not the site. Kids will be kids. Their favorite property is perceived as being "attacked" because they're young and insecure. Yeah, it matters to them. That shouldn't surprise anyone who is in their late 40's or early 50's looking at kids today.

No. They're arbitrary and pointless aside from bragging rights for online fans.

I don't know I totally agree with this. In this case they are probably pointless, because I don't think the reviews are going to stop many from seeing the film, at least the ones that wanted to see it.

I can tell you that RT scores definitely influence me on movie watching. I have not seen Robocop, Trancendence, Divergent, Monuments Men and Rio 2 based solely on the RT scores. There are other films that I didn't have any intention of seeing, but went to anyway based on the RT scores. Captain Phillips would be an example, MoneyBall would be another.

Whether someone reads movie critics or just listens to the opinions of friends on if they liked a movie or not, we are all influenced by "critics".

For me it's an issue of in this economy with movies as expensive as they are, I want to maximize my entertainment dollars. I get really angry when I go see a movie, that I think is going to be good and it turns out to suck.

The stand out criticism (of the reviews I've read) is the uneven tone, pacing and plethora of villains. I think this will give Sony pause placing the S6 in ASM3.
