The Dark Knight Rises Roven: Joker Could Return

There's an interview somewhere where Franco totally praises Ledger's performance and congratulates him for moving out of Nicholson's shadow.

I dunnow what i'm trying to say, but i'm just throwing that out.

Awesome, it's nice to see talent praising talent. :hehe:

I'm glad I ran into this thread...I never even thought of Franco as a choice, but he'd be utterly perfect.

Joker should NOT COME BACK! It would be cool to see another actor as Joker, but I don't want him back.

Johnny Depp as The Riddler disguising himself as the Joker... let's do it!!!

That's just how I pictured him.

Damn, I never thought about it but franco could be a damn good choice.

well done!

wow that manip is really cool...as most, i never thought of franco as a possibility if the joker were in fact to return...but taking a look back at his range as an actor i truly believe it could function properly. Does anyone think that he would have to engross himself not only in the Joker as a character (e.g. heath), or would he also have to engross himself in ledger's portrayal as well?---i saw that question raised on another thread

Na I don't think he would have to do a straight up imitation of Heaths J. As long as whoever get's the gig fully immerses themselves into the character, really becomes the Joker like Heath did, and delivers a visceral, twisted, frightening performance I don't think people will be that bothered that he is slightly different. They should obviously keep the same sorta look, but shorter hair could work seeing as it would probably get chopped before getting put away. And if he just keeps the same sorta speech pattern it could work. The Joker has a series of mental problems, schizophrenia is one of them, him having a slightly different personality could be explained and could be quite interesting.

^^Hmm, very good call...presumably something interesting could be said about the series of psychological disorders the joker emanates...but i'm not sure how i truly feel about the joker being a primary antagonist again

I've thought about this:

If they bring back Joker, I think it can be done if:

a.) If it's Nolan indirect interpretation of Dark Knight Returns. Meaning, it's an aging Batman and Joker. Then get Daniel Day Lewis :)

b.) Get an actor who is completely different from Heath and have him do his own version. So different that he can't be compared to Heath's version.

If the Joker were to return, and he were locked up in Arkham for a while, how would he look? Would they let him put the makeup on or give him haircuts or anything? It might be interesting to see him with even longer, grungier hair and no makeup if he's just been rotting away. He could even be emaciated.

Don't tell me it doesn't remind you of that first Joker image they released. I think he could totally pass for an emaciated Ledger-Joker, and I'd especially buy it if the character had a bit of a different look in the sequel. I also truly think he's an underrated talent who could blossom as Ledger did at some point in the future.

Would definately love Jospeh Gordon Levitt for a reboot of the Batman franchise if they ever do one again.

For a reboot? What's the point of having an actor who resembles Ledger for a reboot? When they reboot the Batman franchise they should go with entirely different Joker - as different from Ledger, as he was from Nicholson.

^Agreed. I would like to see Jason Lee as Joker (yes that's right, Earl!)

Yea he does usually do comedic roles, but if anyone has seen Dogma, and in particular the "Holy Bartender" joke, that is pure Joker. And he looks like the more traditional Joker.

Oh!...That's a pretty damn good choice. Jason Lee was born to play the Joker.

I think they should recast.

Nolan and Ledger would both probably be against compromising the story because of Heath.

Honestly, Michael Shannon would be a great choice for a recast for a few reasons.

A) Has a good control over his voice pitch, with a naturally deep voice, like Heath.
B) Similar in body type, and facial structure to Heath.
C) Phenomenal actor
D) Has played a Jokerish kinda outsider role before in Revolutionary road.

If they recast The Joker I would love to see a different take on him.
It's no fun if the actor takes no risks. Remember, just because they get someone new for the role it doesn't equate to any disrespect towards Mr. Ledger.
But if we're recasting, I'd like Michael Sheen to play The Joker.
The man is an acting marvel. Ever see him as Nero? He was brilliant.
