Even a trans character, unless it's GoT with full frontal, wouldn't be a problem for a naturally born man or woman to portray. It's what on screen and how believable it is that counts, and I think people are delving too deeply behind the curtain and letting that color what they see with the finished product.

And being progressive is fine, but they need to use a quill rather than a sledgehammer.

Well… One might argue that the Berlanti shows (in particular) have already established their credentials vis-à-vis an “open casting” philosophy. Perhaps most conspicuously, they hired Mehcad Brooks to play Jimmy Olsen on Supergirl. And (as I’ve mentioned before) they have several straight actors playing gay, gay actors play straight and (of course) straight actors playing straight. So in this context, one instance of a gay actor playing a gay character isn’t, IMO, a particularly problematic “precedent.”

The likes of Daniel Day Lewis or Christian Bale would be out of a job if their method acting isn't enough anymore to transform themselves for a role and they need someone who is actually severely malnourished to the point of looking like a skeleton, for example, to star in your film.

'Open casting' is not how they did it though. They did say any ethnicity, but they were also looking for a lesbian to play a lesbian, not an actress to play a lesbian character. The very fact that sexual preference was part of the requirement means they were closing out others and, in this instance, abandoning the thought that a straight could play gay or vice-versa.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened.

Oh, I get that. I’m just saying: given a prior strong history of “open casting,” the Berlanti folks maybe thought they had “earned” the right - in one instance - to invoke “closed casting.” And at the end of the day, hiring a gay person to play a gay character isn’t the craziest idea.

I have to agree with the point that trans isn't a grey area. It's just the current issue for these kind of trolls.

I watched the Meg yesterday (which featured Ruby Rose). I think she's going to need to build up a little bit, but otherwise she seems to be okay as an actress, so aside from the excessive tattoos she's likely going to need to hide, she might just do Batwoman justice.

Not that many though, as Kate Kane has a fair share. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't hide any of them. Maybe even add a few of the more visible ones.

They won't need to hide them at all if the costume is going to be accurate of course.

Eh that doesn't bother me as much as it does others. It's a lot easier these days to conceal with makeup etc.

Yeah, cape could be improved, I'm sure it won't look bad when its not backlit and she's no holding it like that...but solid work otherwise

I assumed the cape was opaque with red accents - to compliment the shield, belt and hair.

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but... it kinda reminds me of Alicia Silverstone's Batgirl.

(I actually loved Alicia as Batgirl when I was little. Not sorry)
