The Amazing Spider-Man Rules for the Reboot

How 'bout we quit bringing up Raimi or his movies in any other threads besides the threads that are devoted or anti devoted to him? It's like you have to bash something to prove your point.

Raimi didn't write the script for SM1 or SM2 so there goes your "point".

Considering that Raimi WAS the ONLY Director to date of any Spider-Man Movie, and this is a board dedicated to All things Spidey... How about NOT. I will bring up Raimi any where, and any time I want, to compare and contrast with the reboot.

No, Raimi just WROTE the God Awful SM3, and he "DIRECTED" all 3, including the God Awful SM3. (note, I really don't think SM3 is God Awful, but I love to ruffle the Raimi Lovers' feathers, and if I am gonna be labeled a hater.... why not :woot: )

So.. Directed all 3... Wrote (with his brother Sheesh SM3)... GUILTY AS CHARGED! LOL

*watches Chester implode*

Actually, Spidey3 WAS god aweful. It's just that so, so many other superhero movies are also god aweful that amongst that company it doesn't seem so bad. But that's just lowered expectations for ya.

I really like raimi's reboot but if I were to make changes it would be this;

spidey's look:

* use black webs, you can make the webs 'shiny' but they should be black.
make the eyes bigger and the black rim thicker. have a big round spider on the back.

* use web shooters.

* have one scene where spidey invents and uses a web tracer.

* have one scene where spidey shines his spider signal light on some crooks.

* don't ever have a scene where spidey takes off his mask unless it is specifically linked to a villian learning peter's identity. tear the mask to heck but KEEP IT ON!!

* make peter's spider sense simple and quick, this way you can use it ALL the time rather than ignore it because it's expensive to achieve or takes too long on screen.

spidey himself:

* develop spidey's character.
think of spidey as a character all his own with his own needs and motivation.
remember the movie is called 'SPIDER-MAN'

* make him wise crack.
I understand wise cracks during a climatic battle will harm pacing and harm tension but every single instance leading up to the final battle can have wise cracks. spidey was wise cracking decades before deadpool came on the scene. it's part of his character, give the fans what they want and FINALLY make spidey run off at the mouth.

* show peter's genius.
my problem with nolan's movies is they don't show bat's detective genius and the problem with raimi's moves is they don't show spidey's scientific genius.
show him making the web shooters, show him making the spider tracers, just get across that spidey is one of the most intelligent characters in the marvel universe.

* make spidey uses the whole range of his powers.
the guy sticks to walls, is super strong and swings from a web, for example if spidey were fighting someone hand to hand and the villian throws spidey against a wall spidey's feet could stick to the wall and then spidey could spin the guy around and knock him out. be creative with spidey's powers.

* make peter use his powers even doing mundane stuff
for instance it would be cool for peter to pace the ceiling (upside down) of his bedroom.
a totally cheap effect but how cool would it look?

* don't ignore spidey's spider sense
yes it's a PAIN that spidey can sense danger, it makes writing far more difficult to put peter in situations that incapacitate him DESPITE knowing the danger is coming but rise to the task because ignoring his spider sense to drive the plot is UNACCEPTABLE.

* I think even the eskimos in alaska know spidey was bitten by a radioactive spider. just get on with it and don't slow the movie down by retreading ground we know inside out. WE KNOW SPIDEY'S ORIGIN! MOVE ON!!

* if you make peter's motivation 'the girl' again, then make us (the audience) realise WHY peter is so into her. why does he want to give up being spidey for her? why does he risk every thing for her? MJ seemed like a total b**** so why peter was so into her was a mystery. in superman the movie you TOTAL got why superman was so into lois even though he could have any girl on the planet (ha ha no pun intended).

effects:

* try to create the powers practically
I don't think there is a single spidey fan that didn't think 'SPIDER-MAN!!' when they saw the inception corridor fight. create peter's bedroom using the same technology.
web swinging can't be achieved practically but everything else can; wall crawling, agility, strength, speed can all be acheived without CGI.
if the effects are believable then the audience will be engrossed with what they are watching and wont be taken out of the movie.

* spidey is in a full body suit and wears a frigging mask so USE THAT!
you can hire the best gymnasts, best acrobats, parkour artists. well, you get the point...

spidey's villians:

* they don't have to be linked to peter,
if they are linked to peter make it happen organically, it shouldn't ever feel forced or tacked on.

* some bad guys are just BAD. some bad guys just want to make money.
some people don't need complex motivations to rob a bank.

* make them scary, make them powerful
spidey can lift 10 tons
spidey is 15 times faster than a normal human (FIFTEEN!!)
spidey can sense danger
give spidey a main villian WORTHY of that power, a villian the police have no hope of taking down.

* make the villian push spidey mentally as well as physically
I'm not talking about the clique 'you have to save two people but only have time to save one' I'm talking pushing spidey morally to his limits.
if the lizard is the villian, give peter the dilema of whether to bring his friend to the police even though the lizard has killed.
push spidey to his limits and then push him over. spider-man, more than any hero is driven by guilt so use this.

* give us villians we haven't seen before

* having throw away villians that are taken down in one scene is not a crime.
they need no back story and no motivate, they can be just someone for spidey to hit. the fans will love you for it and so with the marchandise department and it wont effect the pacing of the movie as the villian doesn't have to be seen again.

* I couldn't care less if a villian lives or dies.
loads of people have said don't kill the villian at the end but honestly, who cares? I want to see a new villian in every single new spider-man movie I see.
spidey has one of the best rogues in comics (along with batman) and I want to see as many of them as possible, just not in the same movie like SM3.

spidey MISC:

* don't be afraid to scare the children
my 7 year neice LOVED the doc ock hospital scene and the TDK is filled with dark moments yet made a billion WW. by all means make a light movie but don't be afraid to take the light movie to dark places.

* I have no problem with the reboot shamelessly ripping off the final swing. it was excellent and a brilliant way to end the movie, just like the final scene in the superman movies where he winks at the camera after flying up to space. it's iconic so don't fight it just to be different.

* make a theme tune worthy of spidey. elfman's 'theme' was a frigging disgrace. three major movies and spidey's most recognisable theme is STILL, 'spider-man spider-man, does what ever a spider can'.
superman's theme is so iconic, I want a theme tune for spidey that is HALF as good.

* the movie is called 'SPIDER-MAN'
I want to see at WORST a 50/50 split between peter and spidey. I want to see a well developed peter parker but first and foremost I am coming to see spider-man. when you make trailers you fill the trialer with scenes of spidey so don't cheat the audience (or rather the fans) by making the movie all about parker parker.

I dislike the majority of Elfman's scores, but I think Spider-Man was actually pretty great. Maybe dinosaurs remember 'Spider-Man, Spider-Man!', but I don't think I'll forget the eerie violins (especially at the Columbia logo) and the tap-tapping drums of Elfman's themes.

As far as why he 'wants the one girl', I'd say the fact that he coveted MJ for thirteen years of life is motivation enough. And it's not like she was a complete and total *****, besides in 3. Pete did lead her on a little.

I never really cared for the Spider-light signal. Kinda pointless. The rest above I agree with.

They already did that in the MTV cartoon series and Superman did it in the pilot episode of Lois&Clark. So I think something a bit more imaginative would be in order(and not something a 7 year old could come up with like lifting a heavy desk with a couple of fingers to retrieve a fallen pen-type gag); but the rest again I agree with.

* don't ignore spidey's spider sense

Hmm, I don't think I really ever understood why Superman was into Lois any more than why Peter was into MJ in these films. Sure, Kidder played her role much better than Dunst did but I'm still at a loss. Still, I agree with the rest of what you said.

Hmm, not sure the speed...and especialy the agility can be pulled off practically. Unlike Batman or Captain America, Spidey's agility is superhuman and I'm not sure some parkour guy will be able to capture that. The rest I'm in agreement with. Go on.

cheers :yay:
as for reflexes, it's definately X15 - that's how it's listed in the official handbook. that's why it makes me laugh when someone like daredevil can lay a glove on him (and suggestions that batman could beat spider-man) if spidey were TRULY X15 faster than a normal human, even a human trained to the height of physical perfection they wouldn't be able to see spidey MOVE much less engage him in battle. add to that he can sense danger and use his superhuman reflexes accordingly...well, do the math.

Then quit *****ing about the Raimi threads. You think those threads are out of place yet you still want to talk about him and his movies. You want to look forward to the reboot and forget all things past yet you keep bringing up the past. You want this reboot to have nothing to do with Raimi yet all you can talk about is Raimi. You either like the feel of punching your own crotch or have an obsession with Sam Raimi. Maybe even both...I don't know.

No, Raimi wrote the first draft that had totally different characters in it. Alvin Sargent wrote the final draft. Of course you don't remember people telling you this because you were busy with the punching or the obsessing.

You also love masochism apparently.

So.. Directed all 3...
Oh no, SM2 and SM1 were horrible critically. What will Raimi ever do?

Wrote (with his brother Sheesh SM3)... GUILTY AS CHARGED! LOL
LOL ROFL

You are hurlurious.

*watches Chester implode*
I would say watches Slug punch his crotch but I'm not into that. But, I am sure you would have a few other takers.

Wow. You attribute so many things to me and you only got ONE right. :whatever: But noting the poster I am quoting, I guess I should NOT be surprised.

The only THING you got right is that ALL Raimi Threads should be in the SM1-3 board, not there.

But the Mods in their INFINITE wisdom, and no reasoning other that threats and intimidation (great method) had "ordained from high that they will remain here". So be it.

Raimi's verse is the ONLY thing to compare from a movie standpoint. Thus it is used for BOTH what to do (action scenes) and what NOT (pretty much everything else) to do.

Sargent touched up the screenplay as normal. Conceptually the screenplay was written by Raimi and his brother.

Oh no, SM2 and SM1 were horrible critically. What will Raimi ever do?

Look for work. LOL Thank God! :woot:

Excellent post and mainly overall great points. Disagree with a couple, but on par, all good points.

Look for work. LOL Thank God! :woot:

Not sure what your fascination is with other guys "crothes", but to each their own.

"The Mods in their INFINITE wisdom.."

PRICELESS! Move that thread, and if the "Hate Raimi" Thread must go too, so be it! Take 'em both!

Actually, Spidey3 WAS god aweful. It's just that so, so many other superhero movies are also god aweful that amongst that company it doesn't seem so bad. But that's just lowered expectations for ya.

You're actually right. I think I can stand SM3 only because I love the character so much (even though that was NOT Spider-Man).

I know. Spider-Man never did any of those things in the comics even though people own the issues and have posted screen caps. How about you just say "even though that was NOT the Spider-Man that I wanted".

As others (myself included) have already told you as replies to your SAME OLD BS replies, if that is the case, then bring on the Clone story, the Spider-Mobile, Spot, etc. Bring on ALL the bad stuff that was in the 40+ year history of the comics. Yeah.. that would MAKE SENSE!! *NOT*

That may stop the "it's not Spider-Man" same old BS comments. Good idea.

Silly Wabbit. Get your facts straight. Most, if not ALL who say this are stating it based on the persona of Spider-Man from Raimi's movies. The mute, uninspired, unfunny Tobey/Raimi take on what Spider-Man is. NOTHING like the comics. Add to that, the mistake on MJ's persona. Peter's persona, and JJ's to an extent. PLUS adding made up characters (add for cheese ONLY). Raimi just did NOT capture the essence of Spider-Man when it came to the characters/characterizations. The one thing he did get right for me (in most cases) was the action scenes... IF I throw out a few, like the parade battle from SM1.

Way to go on that script Tobey. You should have added your own dialogue. Same goes for you Raimi. I can't believe you and Tobey both wrote 3 scripts that had nothing to do with Spider-Man.

It's called being a Director, and having a vision while staying true to the source material.

Novel for SOME I know. :whatever:

I am writing an email to Raimi and Tobey right now. I will post in here when I get a response about why they fumbled with the scripts. I will ask Tobey why he didn't include more quips in his representation of the character and I will ask Raimi why he had MJ in movie 1 and not Gwen. So many script questions!

A response already! They must be on their computers writing new scripts.

Raimi - I didn't write the scripts for Spider-Man 1 or Spider-Man 2 and my original script for Spider-Man 3 was rewritten by Alvin Sargent at the request of Sony to include new characters and new plot points.

Tobey - You should look at my WGA page! I am best known for my screenplay of Seabiscuit.

Good Luck with that. I look forward to your scathing email. :woot:

And their equally "scathing" replies. LOL

Pity you did NOT ask him if he thought he had any responsibilites for getting the characterizations right, as he was the "Director". :woot:

Guess we can scratch you off as that "agressive" reporter/interviewer that 60 Minutes is looking to hire.

I just got another email from Raimi! He says guess who rewrote the reboot script? Alvin Sargent!

I just got an email from Chaseter... saying he ignores PREVIOUS replies and REPEATS mootless points over and over.
