The Amazing Spider-Man Rules for the Reboot

So rules...damn i wish they can read this thread tho.

1. MORE badass action...less girl drama
2. Spider man's jokes
3. Idea or anything should be stick to the comic
4. non-spider man 3 style
4. beat TDK! yess i know it is hard but thats my wish ;)

Haha. A man can dream of course. But no superhero movie will beat TDK's groses! I even doubt that Nolans own Dark Knight Rises can beat it.

You better start hating this movie right now because he is walking down the street with no mask on. A stranger could easily see him and find out who he is.

1) we do not even know IF that scene is in the movie or just a promotional spot
2) context. Take the scene in context. I have no doubt there will be times where Spider-Man will be unmasked, but the context of the scene in the movie will tell me whether I like it or not. For example, I have no problem with the final battle in SM1 with Peter being basically unmasked. There was no crowd there to see. Timing is everything for these type scenes. Although I did not like the final battle in SM2, my main problem was not with Peter unmasking in it.

And that shot we have for the reboot costume, it's late at night, in a darkly lit area, as opposed to SM2 (train scene) in a crowded subway in broad daylight, or SM3 final battle with crowd/reporters with cameras/broadcasters/TV.... "pure stupidity"

Adjusted for inflation(read: number of tickets sold) world-wide, SM1 actually DID still beat TDK. SM1 is(adjusted) the highest grossing superhero movie still. And it didn't even need a bull**** rerelease to do it.

The Raimi films were fairly faithful adaptations. Yes, he changed stuff. So did Christopher Nolan. Does that make his Batman films unfaithful? Not all of Raimi's changes worked, but to say he wasn't faithful to Spider-Man as a whole, I disagree with.

As a whole, I would give Raimi a passing grade on being faithful to Spider-Man, but there was some stuff where he was not faithful to the characters and storylines. And there was some other stuff where he took liberties with characters and storylines where (it was needed) but I did not like the approach he took. (i.e. the Goblin costumes).

Wow. I did not know that. Thanks for the info!

Remember I said WORLDWIDE. TDK actually IS tops domestic.

I give Raimi credit, some of the liberties that he took were a little out there as far as the Goblin. As far as the look of the Green Goblin, I kinda give him the benefit of the doubt, he updated the look of Spider-Man, so the same would have to be done for the GG, even though IMO he looked more like a Power Ranger enemy. I like Raimi's style of filming, to me it seemed like NY was a character itself, and just seeing Spider-Man swinging through the city was amazing. I hope Marc Webb can bring that same visual style to this new Spidey film

Raimi was pretty true to the comics.
Green Goblin & Doc Ock kinda disagree with you

LOL.

No, he definitely wasn't.
He was in some things, not in others

All of those people on the train and construction site know who Peter Parker is? I mean if I saw someone's face in a city of 11 million I would easily be able to find them again.
What's the number of that Amazing Spider-Man issue with a photographic cover and a guy who took a photo of Spider-Man without his mask?
Oh wait, 80s was before the age of computers, internet & hackers, that issue shouldn't count

Exactly! Hell Raimi had spidey maskless during the dark alley fight with those guys who were going to attack MJ in spidey1

I dunno, I can forgive his being maskless in the alley. Pete was in a huge rush. Combine that with the darkness, the weather, and the quick thrashing the muggers were being given, and (in my opinion) you've got a good window for forgiveness.

Not that his unmasked moments ever really bothered me.

I have no problem with him being maskless in the alley fight. I was using it to support Slag's argument about Peter being maskless in the official pic because the environment is dark enough to conceal his ID.

Speaking of windows, he threw 2 of those thugs into windows and they broke, moments later the windows were untouched......jus thought I'd point out that error. :awesome:

As we have said, we understand certain scenes/moments that Spidey can be unmasked, like the alley scene, or the final battle in SM1, or even to a degree the final battle in SM2. But those moments have to be right, NOT moments in broad daylight, in front of hundreds to thousands to millions of people.. or moments where cameras/reporters are present.

And it does not address the issue with so many people knowing Peter's secret identity either, which is a separate issue. Knowing Peter's secret should be special and regulated to a few (look to the comics for the inspiration here). That keeps it a special storyline, and increases the impact when his secret is discovered.

Exactly! Peter being unmasked in Raimi's movies became so trivial that I just stopped caring. Every super Villain he ever faced saw his face and the plot device of any unmasking or ID reveal jsut became lacking in impact.

Oh, my bad. I misunderstood what was going on here. Chalk it up to similar conversations happening in most of the Spider-Man threads at some point or other. ;o

I always find it weird that people act like beating TDK as a film (not moneywise) is a hard thing. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Movies have come before and after TDK that have already beaten it, and will continue to, so why can't this? I'd think the reboot should worry about beating the original three films first.

Oh, and when reading through this topic, I noticed a long while back someone said no to the Sinister Six simple because they couldn't figure out how it would possibly work in a future Spidey film. IGNORANT. Just because you don't know how to do it doesn't mean it shouldn't be tried. If anything it should be tried over and over until they get it right. That is how all things should be in film and that is how it is in comics. Not every story with every character is going to be perfect every time; but that doesn't mean it can never be good. Comics have so many multiple stories with multiple characters that it has been proven that every character can have their good and bad stories. Film is no different. Juggling large amounts of characters has been done very very badly in the past, but it can also be done very very well in the future.

Both directors downplayed the intelligence of their respective characters.

I love how when one petty Raimi basher posts a little less, another one appears to pick up the slack. You can target select scenes and elements and nitpick them to death, but Raimi was still a lot truer to the source material than most comic book adaptations are to their respective comics. (The only exception I can think of would be Watchmen.) This board would be a lot less annoying if you lot took a moment out of your day to get friendly with the definition of 'adaptation.'

Listen, I found Raimi's films entertaining and was always excited to see them. That doesn't mean they were more accurate than, say, Nolan's Batfilms. Raimi never nailed the characters of Peter Parker/Spider-Man or MJ, which is crucial. That's not to say he didn't do anything right. But the most important thing in an adaptation is staying true to the characters and feel of the source, which Raimi did moderately at best.

So if someone takes a picture of an unmasked Spider-Man they could not sell it to a publication (Bugle/JJ)? and they could not identify who this "unmasked" person is?

Exactly. JJJ can be oblivious, but I think he'd know exactly who that was the second he got that picture. So, like, five seconds after that fight (and only because the network would be so slow from everyone on that train sending pictures everywhere).

Census! Also, Pete lives in one of the burrows and the census counted all the burrows that make up NYC. I think I count 6 people that knew Peter was Spidey and 4 of those are deadzo.

Looked into your figure. You're counting the entire New York metro area. The city, including all five boroughs, has a population of approximately 8 million. The metro area includes parts of Long Island (including Hempstead), Westchester (including Yonkers and White Plains), upstate NY (including Poughkeepsie) New Jersey (including Newark), and Connecticut (including Bridgeport and New Haven), bringing the figure up to 19 million as of 2009.

Many of those people commute, so let's say there are about 10 million in NYC on a daily basis. Well, Peter goes to Columbia, so we can assume he spends a lot of time in a few block radius of that school. I don't remember where his apartment is, but I'm guessing either Washington Heights (because of its proximity to his school) or somewhere in the Lower East Side (because of its proximity to his job). His job is in the goddamn Flatiron Building on E. 23rd St., a pretty well-traveled part of town.

Ignoring the fact that there is no elevated line in the part of town that Chicago stands in for here, nor does the R train run that far west, they were on the train from the Upper West Side (although the buildings CG'd in are located on the Upper East Side and Midtown East) down to the bottom of the island, which is plenty of time for pictures to get taken and plenty of time for those who see this happening to remember what his face looks like. Of the people on the train, it's very likely that someone will see him around campus, walking to or from the Bugle, or walking to or from his apartment. The R train also goes to Forest Hills (which is marked on the train in some shots), where Aunt May lives. If he goes home at any point, the likelihood of him riding with someone from that train someday is pretty strong. I mean, ****, I saw the same girl on the train home every day after work for a month.

If Peter was wandering aimlessly about the city at all times, you'd have a point, but with him going to the same places all the time, not far from this train's route, he'd be found out without much trouble.

Don't forget all of Spidey's little quips that weren't funny or clever... WOO HOO!!!!

Dont forget MJ who wasnt even that hot and *****y all time, PP OBSESSED with MJ. Sandman killed Uncle ben, No spider sense ( weak tho), Baby PP/ Spider man who cried all time etc etc etc

Green Goblin & Doc Ock kinda disagree with you
The comics someone posted showing Doc Ock destroying his reactor machine at the request of Spidey kinda disagree with you.

No one said he was 100% faithful. People claiming that he wasn't faithful don't know what they are talking about.

Tell me the name of this girl and where she lives

If you want to write a script where a guy has that ability then yeah it is possible. Is it probable? Nope.

Spidey can't commute?

NYC including all the Burroughs is like 17 million. I don't want to add it up on a calculator because I really don't care. Then if you count all the suburbs then there ya go. It really doesn't matter if I am a couple million off, that is still a **** load of people.

I don't know if I'm completely behind the idea of hearing Spidey's thoughts as voiceovers, but I definitely do want to hear some playful banter between him and the criminals (whether they're petty crooks or the main antagonist...unless, of course its Lizard).

Inject some humor into this film but still maintain a serious plot with the feeling of danger and risk very much real ala Iron Man.

The general population, and the authorities for that matter, don't care who she is. That's the difference.
