Rumor: Warhawk canned, to become PS3 download

Rumor Reporter has confirmed that Incognito's Warhawk is the subject of the site's ominous story posted early this morning. An anonymous source working on the title has allegedly told Rumor Reporter that development has "stalled completely." Supposed "infighting and lack of clear direction" have led to a swelling budget; in turn, prompting layoffs and employee migration.

SCEA has apparently brought in a new director who may be considering a significant change of direction for Warhawk. What was once a high profile title (the first to utilize functioning Sixaxis motion control), may now become a simple downloadable game. Rumor Reporter suggests that Warhawk's four complete missions could be destined for PlayStation Store. Another Gran Turismo HD? Perhaps. But, for now, this is strictly rumor.

We did contact Sony for a statement. Here's the predictable reply: "We haven't made any official announcements regarding Warhawk since last year. At this time, we have nothing new to report regarding this title."

Man, Sony just can't catch a break this generation. It's too bad too, because they were majorly toting Warhawk and it's usage of the six axis controller.

I wouldn't be suprised, it was delayed something like 8 months and the whole 'multi-model' game experience of being able to take missions in the the air and fight on the ground seemed way too loose of a game design to make either too compelling. It's a shame because I was hoping Warhawk would have turned out well, they probably should have kept to the flying, and only allowed the dude to go outside the Warhawk in certain safezones to get missions or buy upgrades, or something.

Six Axis is one of the things that made it cool.

Jaffe sort of said that Warhawk isn't canned or cancelled or in trouble over at Neogaf. Sort of.

LMFAO...this is one of those moments that just seemed like someones wishful thinking (the first post's quote not what I just quoted). So the Warhawk being cancelled was actually hearing that a game was being cancelled and they put Warkhawk's name on it?

"and got the following comment from Sony: "The rumors are false. We're still in development with the same team at Incognito and we're excited to show the progress of the game to media within the next month or so. At the same time, we'll be able to confirm an updated release date, too.""

Sounds like it's still in production to me .

Rumor Smash: Warhawk Download Only

For the second time in about as many months Sony is smashing the rumor that Warhawk is going to be downloadable only.

In fact, Sam Kennedy, who floated the rumor as apparent fact, spent the day playing the game on a disc. Whoops.

When contacted for comment today, Sony reps said:

At this time that's simply not true. We have not made any decision with regards to distribution for Warhawk, which is due out this fall.

DId they leave a little wiggle room? Sure, but I hear that's more about leaving room for any eventuality than because they think the game is going that route. The fact is that right now the early version of the game is playable on a disc.

All they basically said there is that they haven't decided on if it will be disc based or online.


The fact that there's a decision to be made really implies that the rumor is basically true and the the development problems happened.

We'll see how it turns up though. I still think that problem for this game started when they decided on being able to get out of the warhawk. Maybe, maybe not but making such an unfocused game would be a huge task.
