Here is a rumor for you... NINTENDO have been showing Wii games with downgraded graphics in a bid to really shock people with the true graphical power come the release announcement.

Not that likley but still an interesting idea.

http://gonintendo.com/?p=5035

Nintendo has been playing us the fool all along. They have been showing us trailers for games that have deliberately downgraded graphics compared to what the Wii can actually do. This is to create an element of surprise for the press during Nintendo's next media event.

Many people here think the graphics are worse than the Gamecube, so the statement is valid. I'm sure there will be some games that really push the envelope with graphics just as there will be those that look like they're a PS1 game.

Sounds stupid that any company would want to show games with downgraded graphics. And if you look at the technical specifications for the machines it's quite obvious that it isn't in the same league as Xbox 360 or PS 3. Why else would Wii be a lot cheaper?

I dont think its that likley however...

1- The games they have shown off have been average looking (considering that its more powerful than the Xbox).
2- Nintendo have been pushing the gameplay and not the graphics. To suddnly announce next month (Sept 14 in New York) The price, release date and oh... "Remember how we told you all that its not about graphics but the gameplay and the Wiimmote? We lied... Graphics kick ass too".

Not likley at all but I have to admit it would be funny as all hell if they did it.

I'd ****ing die of laughter if it was true. I seriously doubt it, but Nintendo has been playing it pretty damn close to the chest this gen. After all, hasnt everything we've seen been based off GC dev kits?

Everyone doubts Nintendo with graphics, and yet EVERY generation they top out with some of the best visually looking games each gen, due in part to harder work and innovation. They know what they're doing, and I've never been worried.

I know the graphics will be better. Consider a few things:

1. GC and past Nintendo consoles never pictured well. They just weren't photogenic screens. Play the games, and it's a different story. Yet, look at the screens of TP from more recently... they beautiful and really heavy in depth and rich in color. And that's from GC's developer kits? Will will be fine. :o

2. They're pushing the innovative gameplay as much as they can, and they've won a huge battle there alone. The gameplay will be more important than graphics, and even though every true gamer claims to agree, they all need prettier pictures to get their rocks off in ecstacy.

3. Satoru Iwata said himself (as well as Reggie and others) that the system will be able to compete visually with the others on the market (sans HD support) and will justify the newer gameplay options. They even said that it'll take a few years to tap out the potential of the Wii, and graphically, it'll be easier and cheaper to produce high quality work by developers with a good vision. No one will maximize their system more than Nintendo, but thankfully, they'll have some of the best games.

4. Nintendo is very, very modest... and very, very realistic. Whilst everyone else was boasting that their system could put man on the moon and cure cancer, Nintendo said what they've basically said every gen: 2 to 3 times more powerful. Too bad for the competition, power isn't everything, even when it comes to graphics. Nintendo places emphasis on what's important.... they only give graphics the credit it deserves, and they know (despite it being important to their market) that visuals aren't everything. However, them releasing a statement that the graphics are better than what we've seen so far will be a classic case of trickery to make the final product look better than expected. They know their opponents trump card is visuals. Beat them at another game (namely gameplay) and then show you can stand quite well in the challenge of grapics, and you've got a winner. :o

why hide it when they could just have shown them of and gotten more support and hype from day 1.....

Building hype is what's called 'peaking at the right time'. You blow your load on day 1, and you've got nothing for later. Besides, it's strategy... it's all about what they wanted to push.

Im not saynig give it all away in the beggning but at lest hype it up and give us little teases.....

I'm not too worried about the graphics, that is not the main reason why I'm buying the system. But I think they will be fine graphically, and people shouldn't worry so much.

exactly its not like the graphics are gonna be worse than Gamecube's.....

I don't really care what we get for graphics whether they be comparable to the 64 or the 360. That's not why I'll be buying a Wii. I'll be buying it for the intuitive game play and great franchises.

The Console Flame Wars are over now, you're a bit late

DOG LIPS, that is by far the most amazing avvy ever.

Thanks. I think I got the pic from you one time and had to have it sexed up for an avy. :woot:

extremely unlikely the graphics are HEAD and SHOULDERS above what we have seen, but it is probable that the visuals will look slightly better.

if the rumor is true however, and the visuals kick ass, then that can only work in nintendo's favor.

it's a nice thought, but no way.

no way a company would ever make themselves look inferior to the competition on purpose.

Nintendo is capable of putting out nice graphics. Just look at Resident Evil 4. One of the most pretty looking titles I have ever seen. I think Wii will surprise on the graphic front. They were using Wii remotes on Gamecubes at E3, so they haven't showed anything yet.

Im just glad someone was paying attention when I posted that pic

Will the graphics get better as time goes by and developers use the hardware in more efficient ways? Of course, it happens with every console. Will the Wii be able to compete with the PS3/360 visually? Absolutely not. It just doesn't have that kind of horsepower inside of it. The games will eventually look much better than they do now, and may even be able to go toe to toe with certain 360 and PS3 launch titles, but that's about as far as the hardware can take them.

YEAH, THE ONLY WAY THE 'WII' WILL BE ABLE TO "COMPETE" GRAPHICALLY WITH 360/PS3, IS ON MULTIPLATFORM GAMES, WHERE THE 'WII' IS THE LCD HARDWARE, LIKE 'PS2' WAS LAST GEN. BUT, THAT REALLY WON'T HAPPEN MUCH, LIKE IT DID LAST GEN, BECAUSE THE GAP IN TECHNOLOGY IS SO LARGE. ALOT MORE DEVELOPERS WILL BE CREATING "CUSTOM" VERSIONS FOR THE 'WII' (LIKE 'MADDEN '07'), FOCUSING ON QUIRKY GAMEPLAY, AND MAKING A "STANDARD" VERSION WITH BETTER GRAPHICS AND DIFFERENT FEATURES, FOR 360/PS3.
