I was riding to work with one of my co-workers the other day. We got on the interstate (speed limit is 65) and merged into the fast lane. Suddenly a car comes up behind him going extremely fast. My co-worker figures the guy is in a hurry for some reason (could be an emergency or otherwise), and decides to get out of his way. The slow lane, however, is packed and my co-worker has to speed up to pass several cars before he can get over. When he does, the fast car behind him suddenly turns on his blinker and follows him.

My co-worker says: "What in the world? I just got over for you."

Suddenly, red and blue lights flash from the top of that car. It's a cop. Obviously, he didn't know it was a cop because it was dark and raining. We get pulled over.

Turned out to be a shariff and not a Highway Patrol. The guy claimed my friend was going 80 (which I think is bologna) in a 65, but let him go with a verbal warning.

If he would have gotten a ticket, would you consider that to be entrapment? I know he wouldn't have been speeding had it not been for the cop speeding up behind him and tailgating like he was.

Thoughts?

It would only be entrapment if you could prove that the cop was tailgating and creating a dangerous situation. Most likely the cop will say that he approached the car to get the license number when he noticed that you were speeding.

But, just my advice, don't speed for any reason unless you feel your life is in immediate danger. Even then your goal should be to get off of the road. Don't let cars bully you into speeding when you're on the highway.

Even if it was entrapment, you can't prove it, therefore, you would have been screwed.

the dash cams run on a loop, if need be a lawyer could get access to said tape.

And what are the dash cams going to show? Him speeding. Case closed. You lose, good day sir!

Even at that the cop can still say he was just approaching the vehicle to get the license information.

I've noticed that cops do that all the time. That's why I always slow down to 1-5mph under the speed limit whenever some ass hat rushes up behind me at break-neck speeds. Oh, I'll move over if it's at all possible, but there have been one or two times when a cop has done that to me when I was in the far right lane, and I am not obligated to merge left for faster traffic.

Cops are tricky. Sometimes you have to slow down, even when you don't see them around. Slow down before merging right whenever some idiot rushes up behind you at night. If you notice that one or two lanes on the freeway have slowed down to about 50-60mph during an otherwise light traffic time, don't merge left to speed up, because there's a chance someone way in front of you saw a cop car ducking behind a bridge.

Quote Ice Cube... "**** the police, coming straight from the underground".

Everyone hates the police, until they need them.

It's all about quotas. They can pick you off for anything if they need to get a certain number in by the end of the day or week. I had an Indiana State trooper following me on the expressway for about 15 min. the other night, and I was doing everything in my power to follow the rules, i.e; speed limit, signaling, not cutting anybody off...I just kept thinking, "I know this ****er is gonna find something I did wrong and just pull me the hell over." When they're behind you for a long time, you know they're bringing up the license number or the database for cars that are "similar" to yours that are on the grid.

I was driving on the highway years ago, I was probably about 20. I was in the 3rd lane from the right, an undercover cop was in the fast lane. We were both going about 70, obviously I didn't know it was an undercover cop. He started to slow down to about 65 and just as my back bumper got a small lead on his front bumper he got behind me and pulled me over. Got a ticket for going 72 in a 65. The guy was yelling at me and called me a punk. I just stared at him.

dash cams show much more than just video, the display has mph, time, date, car # and officer badge #

so showing dangerous driving by the cop is not out of the question. the question is if it is worth fighting the system.

It's hard being a cop when you have a small penis.

Not to mention, the color of your skin. ;)

I kid, and digress.

Terry is correct.

For about a month, now, a cop has set at the top of the main hill, in my small town - outside of Augusta - at the same area, doing the same thing: checking speed.

For a town of 3,000 or less, one would think sitting at the same spot, for a month, would tip off the taxpayers that the town cops are trying to catch speeders, atop the ONE MAIN dragway in town.

As silly as that may be, their bet - I bet - is that no matter how many times one may remember that said cop is sitting atop the same hill, between 6Pm and 9PM, someone just may forget and speed.

Surprise. Ticket.

Was it steamy?
