Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern - Part 1

Ryan Reynolds has landed the coveted role of “Green Lantern,” getting the starring role in Warner Bros.' live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.
Martin Campbell will direct. The studio is still working on the picture’s budget, but production is expected to begin in January.
The news caps off a memorable summer for Reynolds, who played Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” a performance that prompted Fox to begin development on a spinoff film. Reynolds followed that by starring opposite Sandra Bullock in the romantic comedy “The Proposal,” which crossed the $100 million mark this week.
Warners and Campbell chose Reynolds, who vied for the superhero role along with “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. The momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.
Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Donald DeLine will produce with Berlanti. Reynolds’ reps at UTA are working out his deal.
The actor will next star in “Buried,” a dark indie drama that will begin filming shortly in Barcelona with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and awakes in a coffin, struggling against time to coordinate a rescue even though he doesn’t know where he’s buried in the desert.

i'm bumping this thread since I don't want to make a thread about this.

But, if one thing fails in this movie, i could be Ryan. I can't picture VAn Wilder in this role. Is the Green Lantern suppose to be a funny dude? I'm not familiar with the cartoons/comics, so maybe some of you can fill me in

Geez, talk about a serious thread bump. You would've been better off bumping the other Reynolds thread on the second page.

Hal Jordan in his origin was a smart mouth, wise-cracker. So yes, there is some humor to his character but not the core, just one of his characteristics.

I've never seen Van Wilder so I can't comment on that. But I have seen a few of his movies, namely Buried, so I'm sure Reynolds will handle the drama very well.

Do yourself a favor, don't ever see the first Van Wilder movie. I watched it once and it was awful, the movie is packed with non stop blandness and comedy that falls flat all of the time. Trust me on this one.

Hal is kinda bland in the comics so I think Reynolds will add some need personality to his character.

Wasn't Bradley Cooper in the running for this, he would have been perfect for Hal Jordan

Bradley Cooper - Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds - The Flash

I could totally see this, oh well

Good God, can someone just ban Director already? All I ever see him do is pop into threads and tell everyone how such-and-such actor is totally wrong for the part they are playing and how they're more suited to someone else. At first I thought he was just trolling the Superman boards, but now it looks like he's branching out to annoy people in other forums.

Ryan Reynolds looks quite alright to me as Hal Jordan, in fact I think that he will surprise many by his acting skills.

There should be no problem if there are some moments of humor, overall the movie is Not a comedic take on GL.

Nonsense. Van Wilder is awesome. It's the closest a movie has ever come to matching Animal House.

He's really not.

He really is. Explain how comic book Hal Jordan isn't bland. Geoff Johns writes him as a generic superhero cardboard cut out.

Reynolds will bring some much needed charisma to the character. Hopefully not too over the top though.

Then You should read some of the Silver age stuff, If Geoff John's Hal is a cardboard cut out then Silver age Hal would be a paper cut out stand in.

I think he will be great.

Hal used to have a bit more personality. Like in The Road Back and Emerald Dawn.

Nowadays he's just... there. But that comes down to Johns not really focusing on characters that much anymore. He's all about the big story or setting things up for the big story, instead of characterisation. And when he does do character work, it comes off corny and melodramatic and angst filled.

He's a pale shadow of the writer who did JSA and Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E

Hmm, I've always liked Hal in the comics, he can be bland sometimes though. RR will make him more interesting I do believe. He's a great actor, I'm surprised people are still doubting him.

Isn't Bradley Cooper the one who did the Bat-Bale voice in the audition? I'd still love to see that haha.

I've never found Hal bland in the comic books... especially when Johns is writing him. Granted, I haven't read the comics lately, so maybe he's lost his touch, but in stuff like Rebirth and Secret Origin, I thought he nailed Hal's character perfectly... the right blend of cocky arrogance and no-bullsh** determination.

I think Reynolds can portray that type of character fine as long as the writing is good.

:awesome: :awesome:

That was funnay.

And I totally agree with Rebirth & Secret Origins. Those two graphic novels I'll actually go back and read. Definitely some of my favorites.

Cocky and determined are pretty generic superhero traits really though. And in Rebirth he was all angsty about his father and being the Spectre. I just found it really melodramatic. Especially when he started going on about his fathers jacket. The dialogue was cringe worthy in my opinion.

Yeah................... so.....? I don't get it, so I can't express my opinion?

It's because they disagree with you.
So, if people disagree, I can't express my opinion. I don't see people, I see one or two people who like to bash people instead of having an interesting convo.

At least I started a discussion going jeeezzzzzzzzzz
