S1E1 "Wayne or Lose" Official Discussion Thread

Adam West narrating? That was unexpected, but I am not complaining. Love the style of the opening credits as well.

Did they use a line from Trump about killing people from the cousin?

This sucked. Not one thing even got a smile out of me.

Liked the line about superheroes fighting for vaguely defined reasons. There was a line about Superman crashing into office buildings being the leading cause of injuries. I'm always up for a good shot at the Snyderverse

As far as the show goes, willing to give it a few episodes.

Enjoyable, less so because I'd seen a lot of it in clips. I'll be sticking around for the next few though. The cast is very strong.

"adorkable"
Not yet a great NBC comedy, but it has potential.

Sometimes they got a little too clever for the own good. More Easter Eggs than the White House lawn on a Sunday in April. Not exactly a laugh riot but still sort of fun.

This was boring and predictable. Basically an office workplace comedy that is cashing in on the superhero craze.

I liked it. It has room for improvement, but most comedies start out that way for me. I loved seeing Starro!!

NBC likes workplace comedies. The Office, Parks and Recreation, Superstore, 30 Rock, and in times past Cheers, Taxi, Night Court, Just Shoot Me, Sanford and Son, WKRP In Cincinnati, Alice, Buffalo Bill.
And superhero shows are hot now. So it's a perfect fit for NBC.

Like I said in the other thread, this show is a poor man's Better Off Ted, only with none of that show's cleverness or biting satire of corporate America. Instead it was a 20 minute snore fest, with jokes that simply relied on absurdism (only with no clever satire or message behind the absurdist jokes) and actors who delivered every line as if they were resisting the urge to start giggling and winking at the camera or scream "GET IT!? ITS A BATMAN REFERENCE!" As such, we are left with a mediocre show that seems to be convinced of its own brilliance.

It does seem like the Batman version in this show is more like the Adam West version. I mean, a smell-o-meter?

So you can't envision Ben Affleck's Batman using a smell-o-meter to locate the Joker? You gotta know with all the tats that Leto's Joker is soaked in cheap cologne.

The original teaser they released was much, much worse than what we got, as mediocre as the first episode was.

Maybe so, but that only reflects a need for tweaking, not overhaul of the entire concept. The original concept was at least clever. What we got is cliche and trite.

Cheesy FXs.
Did like the cameos from: Crimson Fox, Jack O'Lantern, and STARRO.

Opening credits with the comic book covers were neat.

You are never going to get a Marvel movie quality VFXs on a broadcast TV show so you are just going to have to accept them for what they are.

Not true and it's happen and happening now already and will happen in the future.

A co-financing arrangement with Imax will allow ABC and Marvel to spend more to make “The Inhumans,” which will include cinema-quality visual effects.

Watch a VFX Breakdown From Marvel’s ‘Agents of SHIELD’
For my money, I’ve always been rather impressed by the visual effects that bring “The Bus” that our heroes fly around in to life. It looks just as good as any digitally created vehicle we’ve seen in more expensive movies, and even better than some CGI planes we’ve seen before.

While movies have historically received most of the attention for their outstanding work in visual effects, television is quickly catching up. Over on The CW both Arrow and The Flash are producing excellent special effects that are required of any comic book adaptation – most memorably bringing an enormous, telepathic gorilla to life without seeming too cartoon-like or cheesy. As the number of superhero and comic book adaptations on television continue to grow, so too does the caliber of their visual effects.
While, of course, the effects on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pale comparison to their blockbuster predecessor The Avengers, both time and budget must be taken into account. FuseFX is doing incredible work at a very fast pace, and it will be interesting to see them tackle the visual needs of the series, as more Inhuman powers are added and the Secret Warriors are assembled in Season 3.

Here is more update info for special effects on AOS.

Watch ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Create Ghost Rider in New VFX Featurette
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasted little time introducing us to a fully-formed Ghost Rider, further evolving effects we’d seen through two prior movies. Now, Season 4 goes behind the scenes to show us the mo-cap creation of Gabriel Luna’s fiery Spirit of Vengeance, LED hood and all.

The special effects for ghost on AOS is better then the 2 ghostrider movies so it's clear that agents of shield have movie level/quality special effects.

Now more info for the inhumans show.
Inhumans
# An 8-episode live-action television series, titled Marvel's The Inhumans, is scheduled to premiere in September 2017 on ABC, after the first two episodes are screened in IMAX theaters beginning September 4, 2017 for two weeks. IMAX is also a financial partner for The Inhumans, and this will be the first time a television series has premiered in IMAX. The series will center on Black Bolt and other members of the Royal Family, and is not intended to be a reworking of the planned film from Marvel Studios, nor a spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Scott Buck will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series.
I say the dc cw shows and the marvel mcu shows for example have movie quality special effects.
The marvel shows more so.
TV has gotten better overtime when it comes to special effects just like movies.
Bye.

You know I initially wondered if they were going to reveal Vanessa IS the Crimson Fox so this would be about her general working day with Van unaware Bruce was keeping his branch afloat as a way of having Crimson Fox available to patrol Charm City?

The last Ghost Rider movie came out five years ago and wasn't exactly a big budget special effects masterpiece.

When people say "movie quality" they mean modern, big budget movies.

Agents of SHIELD doesn't even look as good as The Flash a lot of the time, let alone stuff like Doctor Strange, Batman vs Superman, or X-Men Apocalypse.

Bye.

Another thing to consider is that the effects on Powerless may be intentionally cheesy because it is supposed to be a comedy. So part of the fun is laughing at the effects.

I thought the first episode was pretty bad, but I'll check out a couple more before making my mind up.
