Saints Row 3 was supposed to be getting a standalone expansion pack called Enter the Dominatrix this fall but its been officially cancelled and the content will be incorporated into SR4 which is due out next year

You know what? I think its for the best. I didnt think SR3 needed any new content and defiently not one costing $30. Making a bigger, better sequel seems to make more sense rather than releasing a SR 3.5 and then SR4 with less content

In all honesty, I do too. But if I were THQ I'd just delay the game another few months and make it a launch title for the next Xbox and PlayStation. They would be guaranteed units sold just off of next generation hype.

Generation-enders always suffer in sales. By the time this thing launched, people would be too excited for next-generation titles anyway.

SR4 on the next gen consoles would sell ALOT less than SR4 on the current gen. Saints Row isnt a GTA and I dont see it being a console pusher and besides the initial user base will be much much smaller than what they can get by releasing it to the millions of owners of the current consoles. Financially it makes more sense to release it ont he PS3/360 and THQ isnt in the best financial position to make such a risk with bypassing them.

You are right about two things. The install-base will definitely not be the same size as the Xbox 360 and PS4's next generation, and Saints Row 4 probably won't be a "system seller".

However, with every console launch, the early adopters tend to buy the "killer app" and then get a couple other titles to run on their new hyped-up hardware. This is how titles like Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero sold well over a million despite not being very interesting games.

Saints Row 4 wouldn't have to be the "system seller", it would just have to be one of the better launch games.

Titles that release at the very end of a generation tend to under perform. last generation, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, the best entry in a very popular franchise, undersold thanks to many hardcore gamers (the majority of its' fanbase) moving on to new hardware. I'm sure if it was a launch title, the hype would have been much higher and the sales would have followed.

THQ isn't in a great financial situation at all, but the company is far from dead. They'll want a presence in the next-gen race and having a big title like Saints Row 4 could be their shoe in the door.

Why can't it release on both current and next gen?

They could but I dont see it being much different. The current gen systems would most likely be the lead development consoles and ported to the next gen systems. It would most likely amount to being upscaled to 1080p for the next gen systems. I dont think 720p vs 1080 would be too much of a significant difference. Probably wont see that till they make a game specifically for the next gen consoles which are developed to take full advantage of the hardware.

Looks pretty good. Loved the 3rd one

Ehhhh, I'm far from sold. The trailer did nothing for me, it looks a lot like the third one, which was a let down. The first two were great, but the third one went too far with it's "all crazy, all the time!" garbage. The crazy stuff doesn't work if there's no level of normalcy to measure it against.

I'm skeptical about this one. I remember the original plan was to do a big expansion for Saints Row The Third, but then they decided to roll that into Saints Row 4. So, I just don't know how much of it is going to be all new content and how much is going to be recycled Saints Row The Third stuff. Based on the trailer it appears to be the latter. I'll keep an open mind though.

I liked SR3 But this looks like a trailer for a DLC pack for that game than a sequel,I love over the top stuff But 3&now 4 is going too extremely cartoony and should just be a new franchise than be called sequels to SR 1&2..Which was a modern day street gang series and were over the top But grounded in a real world type feeling where as 3&4 are futuristic/steroided&loony tunes versions of Crackdown!

That said..IF this has freestyle online multiplayer like GTA then I'll be interested!

well this is exactly what this was intended to be. They are rushing it A) to capitalize on GTA5 not coming this spring as expected and B) bc of the money issues the soon defunct THQ had and SR being their most profitable franchise

Noidea why they are callingt this the climatic chapter if they claimed they loved saints row. Hopefully the climatic chapter on current gen. Looks fun!

I completely agree. This is definitely being rushed, and it shows. It looks exactly like SRIII and it's being released just about a year after the DLC was supposed to be released. But you can't blame them because the whole financial issues really threw things off.

I dunno if you can call it rushing it. Saints Row 3 was 2011? 2 years in development, especially something that started as DLC, is still more development time than most 'rushed' games on the market.

I say it seems rushed because if you look at ETD, it was supposed to be a standalone expansion of SR3, which was supposed to be released last September. The news broke in June that it was being pushed into SR4, which is now going to be released in just 5 months.

Now from what I'm reading up about it, SR4 was already planned for a 2013 release, which means that they already had something to work on. But the fact that this original DLC expansion is being put into a new game is a bit worrisome because the trailer shows that it looks like something straight out of SR3. It really reminds me of how I felt when I played ACII and then went on to play ACR, where there were some differences added, but overall the game looked like an glorified expansion pack.

Now with all of that said, I watched the IGN Rewind Theater and heard more details about the game, and it definitely sounds cool, so I'll definitely check it out because I loved SR3 and the wacky direction they went in. But I'm very hesitant to buy this game day one.

I understand the fun factor in the new extremely over the top direction,I loved many aspects of it in SR The Third But the random mascots walking&driving around the city was just too damn much&beyond STUPID,In this trailer for part 4 there's a cop that gets shot with an alien gun and his head grows like a balloon&his eyes pop out or something and literally a giant energy drink can with arms smashing things..WTF is that?

Well from what I heard, the ETD stuff is a spoof of the Matrix, so that's how they explain the stuff like Alien guns and super powers. It may be ridiculous, but at least it has context.

The alien invasion&tech/super powers and matrix influence is cool But the looney tunes balloon head effect&giant energy drink is just a turn off for me!

Right now though the super powers stuff excites me and so I can't wait to know&see more of it,IF this has free style online multiplayer..I'd be sold on day 1 cause with the super powers it'd be like a spin off to DC Universe Online or Marvel MMO.

The reason I said rushing was also bc of the release date. The obviously want to get this out before GTA V drops bc if they don't, this game unfortunately would be DOA. That August release date was probably set in stone once they heard GTA V was coming in September. I wonder how this DLC incorporation has influenced their original plans for SR4 bc Id imagine it would be jarring and not consistent with where they were planning on going with it. I hope they make it a good fit and it doesn't feel like SR3.5

I'm guessing the character being a Saints Row member president and alien invasion was mostly the original plans for the game and the super powers was pure ETD.

So they mixed together.

I might get this one on the PS3, games having different controls for vehicles is annoying on PC

I will definitely get this game..in about 2 years time.
