Development has begun on a sequel to last year's Salt, Deadline reports.

The original film starred Angelina Jolie as CIA officer Evelyn Salt who, after being accused of being a Russian spy, goes on the run in an attempt to prove her innocence.

Jolie is expected to reprise her role for the sequel, now entering the writing stage with Kurt Wimmer (who wrote the original) drafting.

Most recently, Jolie provided a voice in Kung Fu Panda 2. She is next expected to make her directorial debut with In the Land of Blood and Honey, a romance set against the Bosnian war, which she also wrote.

I thought the first was ok, and there is certainly potential to make a better film with the character.

If Jolie doesn't want to do this movie they should have another actress take her place. Sort of what like what they're doing with the Bourne movies where the mantle is passed down. It could be called "Pass the Salt".
