Sequels Sam Raimi on Spider-Man 4

Taking out the quips doesn't make the fights any more epic. You can easily still have epic fights with them. In fact, adding the quips could have added a element of seriousness to the fights. It can show that Spidey's in real troubble. We all know Spidey's a blabbermouth, so when he actually stops talking during a fight, we know it's getting serious and he's getting in troubble.

If you want to make the fight serious, have Spidey start out the way he usually does, what with the quipping and all, and as it progresses and grows more violent, have Spidey start to shut up. Heck, in the comics when the villans are winning they usually comment on it, "where's you're little comebacks now Spider-man?" or something like that.

Taking out the quips added nothing to the character, it only served to make him more dull.

I see your point, but I can't help but think that even the most devoted, creative attempt at quips, in a movie, would take it into Arnold as Mr. Freeze territory. Maybe the lack of quips doesn't make a fight more epic, but the presence of said quips would almost certainly lighten the fight up to the point where it would be difficult to take the drama seriously.

He couldn't have been more off on the character of Spider-man. In fact, Spider-man wasn't even a character, he was Peter in a suit, and that is not Spider-man.

Peter especially in his early years, became a different person in the Spider-man suit. Just like Bruce Wayne becomes a different person in the Batman suit. As Spider-man, Peter finally gets an outlet to express the confidence he doesn't have as Peter Parker. This is why Spider-man is a jabber mouth when he's fighting his enemies. That and because Peter has said that he thinks he'd go crazy from the fear of battle if he didn't run his mouth to distract himself.

The cocky attitude and quips are essential to Spider-man's character. Having Spider-man remain a near mute as he did in Raimi's movies isjust as wrong for the character of Spider-man as it would be to have Batman cracking witty one liners.

By basically eliminating this aspect of the character, Raimi failed to show us Peter's confident side, and it also removes a reason for people to believe that Peter is not Spider-man, because Spider-man is much more vocal and boisterous then Peter.

And in regards to the character of Peter Parker, Raimi barley showed us any of Peter's intelligence, and completley disregarded his engineering skills. Peter does not merley spout a few intelligent sounding sentences like he does in the movies, he actually creates and invents things. Raimi showed us none of that.

Also, by the time Peter was in colledge he much more confident as Peter Parker. Raimi didn't show us that either, he had Peter act the way he did in highschool, which wasn't accurate to the character.

Raimi did an average job on Peter's character, but he left much to be desired.

I fully agree, not that I dislike the Spider-Man and Parker Raimi created for the movies. In fact there are so much love and heart put in his version that it allmost makes up for the lack of mouth-jabbering I was hoping for all along. But still, I kept waiting for those smartass remarks in the mids of intense battlescenes but they never came. Not in the first second or third movie.

I'm not sure if it's more Raimis actor direction or Tobey's performance that makes the movie Parker/Spider-man dull, maybe a little bit of both. Which is why I for one would like to see what another director and cast could do with the franchise. But that's probably asking for another schumacher'ish fiasko, and we don't want that..

to be honest spidey telling jokes 'may' have upset the flow of the movie

SM1 - spidey v GG final fight
any jokes here would (imho) have made the fight seem less brutal

SM2 - spidey v doc ock (first fight outside of the bank)
quips while his aunt is in danger?

spidey v doc ock (second fight)
clock tower - way too fast paced for quips
train - some oppertunities here but again quite a fast paced sequence

if I were sam here's were I'd put the quips

SM3 - spidey v sandman (armoured car)
*spidey punches sandy and now his hand is stuck*
movie - spidey - 'uh-oh'
change - spidey -
'now THERE'S something you don't see every day'
or
'well, THIS is embarrassing'
or
'erm, sandy isn't this a little imtimate its only our first date'
or
'where's my dust pan and shovel'

*sandman knocks spidey out of the truck, spidey is surrfing towrads him'
movie - nothing
change - spidey -
'spider-man, spider-man does what ever a spider can'
or
'he flies through the air with the greatest of ease'
or
'james bond eat your heart out'

terrible I know but basically my point is you can have quips in the action as long as no punches are being landed qiping while someone is taking a swing or landing a punch will break up the flow. hellboy did quite a nice job of quips whilst fighting. 'ya missed', 'no tounges'
I would've liked to see more quips but the amount that is in the comics/cartoons would have broken the flow and made the fights seem less dramatic, the audience barly get pete is a genius NO WAY will they get peter quips because he is scared.

I actually disagree with him.
In SM3, he was confident, overconfident in fact and he did utter a few wisecracking lines. Not as lovable as in the comics, but still.
If they have a masterplan in Marvel/ Sony, it would be ideal that in SM1 and 2, he was just trying to get by, in SM3 he got burned by going to the other extreme, and from SM4 on, he should be fairly cocky, but not much. More confident than in SM2, but much less than SM3. Hopefully some more wisecracks will find their way into the movies.
What I disagree most with, though, is that he resembles Wayne when he is in costume. That, to me, is the essence of totally missing the point of the character and I'm 100% happy (and the only logical way to go to me, really) that we got a full Parker analysis. When he put on the mask, I knew all about his motives, how he got away when he wore the mask.
Peter never gets lost in the Spider, like Bruce in the Bat. He puts on the mask and by doing the right thing it's like a huge sigh of relief for him. Nowhere near Batman's level of sinking deep into his alter ego, though. From what I've gathered all these years from all the Spidey comics I've been reading, Spidey IS Pete in a mask. Thus, I couldn't be much more happy with his portrayal (add more wisecracks, and I'll be 100% happy).

Raimi's comments mean crap to me. Sinister 6 movie?? Is he f***ing kidding me? He couldn't manage 3 villaisn properly in a 2hr30min film and now he's talking about sinister 6?? What a joke. I dont understand why he's not mentioning anything about the lizard or even Kraven. I hope Grant Curtis steps in and tells Raimi to get his thumb out and start doing things right. Hell, I dont even want Raimi returning and with Tmags turning 32 today, as far s I'm concerend he shouldn't even bother considering returning.

Sinister Six? Oh boy. Two villains is enough.

The only other villains I actually really want to see are Lizard, Electro, and Scorpion. And maybe a return of Venom.

The Lizard definatly should be in the next one. Connors was mentioned in the first movie, introduced in the second one, and appeared in the third.

If you think about it Lizard in a movie would look pretty weird. Raimi might be worried that Lizard will cost too much and SM4 will flop because of disapointment with sm3

The hell are you talking about? Lizard wouldn't be too expensive and how the hell would it look weird? I'm bothered by people's reaction to the spidey films reflecting the source material its based on.
Raimi, the producers and ignorant hypsters need to stop down playing the spider-man mythos where everything is fictionally absurd.

One of the things I love about all the other weaker marvel films is that, at least they acknowledge the characters and the source material and are not ashamed to give the viewer that particular world. If the lizard is a classic spidey villain thats been in the comics for almost half a century, why should it be weird to see him in a spidey movie?
If the producers, writers, directors are ashamed of certain key aspects that help build the aesthetics of the source material then they should all piss off and let people who are capable handle it.

I would suggest Paul Haggis( Casino Royale, Million Dollar Baby, and Crash) to pen the script. The guy is a first rate writer . He knows how to blend action and emotion. Maybe along with Alvin Sergernt but keep Raimi away from the script imo.

It's one thing to get a good writer but its another thing to get a good writer who...wait for it...knows the source material, the characters. These are essential to telling a good story. Why do people think X2 was so good? It's because writers like David Hayter who is an awesome screen play writer knows what the hell they're talking about.

Well said! Something I've been saying for years. Raimi just doesn't get it.

I want Lizard as the main villain. Throughout the film, Venom haunts Peter. Whether its in dreams or just walking down the block. Then Venom, towards the end, reveals himself, and fights spidey, but has to kill Lizard, too.

hahahahahaha. NO!:o

People.... the Sinister Six would appear in SM6.... not SM4.... its obvious that Lizard is gonna be the next villain so have no worries... I don't know about Kraven... but I think he'd be a given if Lizard is in there as well... but cry over nothing. However, I do want a Sinister Six to take form from SM4 itself to setup the grand finale with Ock coming back at the end of five. I am just not sure who Raimi has in mind for SM5... Electro, Vulture? Mysterio? Scorpion? Still a long ways to go before any of that though... lets see what happens with Lizard first.

Good god, he never said the SS were going to be in SM4. He was spouting off movie ideas. SS wouldn't happen till later.

Honesetly, you people get angry and get your panties in a bunch over the dumbest crap.

Its the fact that he suggested the s6 as a possibility that has people riled up.

Maybe the next three films would be revolving around the Sinister Six?

No Sinister Six please, no one will like it if they thought Spider-Man 3 was a cluster f--- already.

Notice how he says he'd "LIKE" to see them. He didn't want Venom in 3 but Arad's dumbass forced him in there. So Arad probably will be like "the fans like Carnage, use Carnage, plus use the Hobgoblin".:cmad::down

I want Morbius and Man-Wolf in the next film.. make it much darker and violent..

I don't think Morbius or Man-Wolf would work out too well on film. Spidey Films shouldn't be violent that much, they are fine the way they are IMO.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't think that would happen. Many serious movies have their lead characters quip or use sarcastic jokes. Heck, look at V for Vendetta. V constantly made weird jokes and such, but that movie was ten times darker then Spider-man.

What takes away from Drama is the tone. The Spider-man movies aren't serious to begin with, if Raimi wanted to make his movies more of a drama he failed, because he's always adding goofy scenes with Peter that lighten up the tone of the movie.

Just because Morbius (who would be cool with the whole Man-Spider arc) or Man Wolf (no thank you) are in it doesn't mean it will be darker or more violent.

And it should be darker with Morbius of course, he's a darker character. The Spidey films aren't all squeaky clean G rated fun anyway, it won't hurt.
