Sam Worthington (upcoming Avatar and Clash of the Titans) will star in an adaptation of Radical Publishing's "The Last Days of American Crime," reports Mania. Here's how Radical describes the title:

From critically-acclaimed writer, Rick Remender, comes a fast-paced, futuristic crime story.

In the not-too-distant future as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.

Enter: Graham Brick. A career criminal never quite able to hit the big score, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country and live off unlimited funds for the rest of his life. But the media has leaked news of the anti-crime signal one week before it was to go live...and now Graham and his team have just a few days to turn the crime of the century into the last crime in American history.

Remender is writing the screenplay for the film.

This sounds very cool, I hope a top quality director comes onto the project.

Now I know why unemployment is so high. Worthington's agent keeps grabbing all the jobs.

I've yet to see any non-Australian movie that Worthington has been in and I'm already sick of him.

i think it's getting to the point where I think Hollywood is overestimating Worthington's career in the biz, or how big he'll be.

Not to say he's bad or won't do good, but he could be the next Gretchen Mol.

Worthington is getting offered a lot of lead roles because people who run the industry know that being the lead in a James Cameron film makes you a superstar - which is exactly what happened to Schwarzenegger and DiCaprio's careers. Its also better to hire Worthington now while he's relatively cheap and available, than to wait when he's swamped with offers and he becomes more expensive to hire.

It only seems like he's taking alot of work because he keep doing blockbusters and people are making a big deal out of him.

plus IMO he looks more like a real man. not like a hollywood supermodel

I wonder if Worthington ever been in a movie set in present day again. It seems like everything he's in now is either in the future or the distant past. If he's not careful, he could Orlando Bloom his career.

I don't know didn't work so well for Edward "Direct to DVD" Furlong.

He's risking over-exposure by being mentioned in all of these roles.

Tell that to poor Michael Biehn. :( :(

I think that studios are shouldn't count their chickens before they hatch. It's one thing to be in a few projects, but Sam is in so many right now. But I don't blame him because in the end, he wins: He gets paid..

They may be very well overestimating him. Especially since he's already in 1 potential blockbuster movie after another. Terminator and upcoming: avatar, pop, leagues. These movies have an audience regardless of SW, especially since most people outside of movie web surfers still don't know his name. But these movies will make money & will give the illusion that SW is very bankable.

Hollywood really is giving him the key to the city (so to speak) by giving him all these big movies in such a short frame, that he can't help but be a household name & on the way to an a-lister. Actually he is kind of an a-lister in that people are throwing scripts at him even though he's not a household name yet. weird.

I've only seen him in terminator & I am already tired of him. He's about to go on my "don't suggest him for a movie, if I hear his name again, slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch...:cmad:" list (where Bale currently sits at the #1 spot). :hehe:

I don't know didn't work so well for Edward "Direct to DVD" Furlong.

Furlong destroyed his career by getting hooked on drugs and doing B-movies to support his habit. He even blew the chance for a major comeback in 2002 when he lost the chance to play John Connor in T3 due to his addiction.

you just hit the nail on the head.

If Sam doesn't catch on with people, then I guess he better enjoy his success for the time being. There's so many actors out there who are struggling to get where Sam is at right now.

Pop and Leagues?

I meant clash, not pop. And someone mentioned a rumor about a possible leagues, but it's probably just his name being thrown around by a fan. But I don't want to hear it atm.

He wont be starring in McG's Captain Nemo movie because that project has been postponed indefinitely. And thank God for that.

Seems like Sam is really taking off. He's constantly busy ever since he started working on Avatar. Great, great actor tho.

I don't think Sam is that bad, actually I haven't seen any of his movies so I can't say if he is worth it or not, but I do think he should be careful because he is being offered alot of scripts right now he just needs to make sure that they are quality.

Worthington taking a lot of work makes sense from several perspectives. If Avatar is huge, as someone said, studios can sign him while he's cheap. From Worthington's view, if Avatar bombs, at least he'll have the next job lined up.

In his position, I think most of us would be doing the same.

I try not to wish ill on people so all I can say is, I hope he isn't the next Colin Ferrel or Ben Affleck.
