I can agree with this, but at the same time, I wonder if there is a difference between a positive distraction and a negative one, and whether that is subjective or not. For example, a couple of years ago, I took a college course that was taught by Kevin Bacon's brother, Michael. It was an honors course about music, and he is actually a well known film composer. On one hand, it was a bit of a distraction because he Kevin Bacon's freaking brother and that was awesome. But at the same time, he was a good professor, and had we not known who his brother was, it would have made us focus more on his class and not his identity.

There's a difference between being the brother of someone famous and being a former porn star. The kids at her school would be distracted in a different way to Bacon. Those who have watched her videos would always be thinking of her in a sexual way and might not be able to respect her. Sure, there are people who sexualise their teachers anyway through fantasy, but I'm sure none of them can then go online and actually see their teachers doing all kinds of explicit stuff that is probably more than they imagined. It's one thing fantasising about it, and another thing actually seeing it happening.

I'm not saying she shouldn't be given a chance to put her past behind her, but school can be a rather cruel and unforgiving place, and students are bound to be frequently bringing that up. I can understand why the board let her go on that basis, but I wouldn't say that school is no place for someone like her. However, schools are usually required to do a background check, and they might easily class her in the same category as sex offenders, for whom schools are definitely no place for people like that.

I dont see the big deal about this,,, she had a rough history that has nothing to do in regards to teaching... Anybody else find it ironic that allot of the so called celebs have sextapes out and children buy there makeup lines etc.. I guess thats just acceptable.. Its funny how some people are degraded in media and others that do the same are just accepted.

Part of being a good teacher is not bringing distractions to learning into the classroom. This would qualify.

It never would have been a distraction if the administration had left it alone.

True, but I don't know, maybe optimistically it'd be something that would dilute over a period of time. I'm sure it'd always be a joke, and there would always be at least a kid or two who would be brave enough to mess with the subject and get sent to the principal, but then it'd blow over. Probably a little too optimistic to look at it.

All that being said, I was serious about teaching adult education. I would assume this kind of thing really wouldn't matter nearly as much to an adult high school aimed at GED studies. Not sure how that kind of career path works, but maybe this would be a legitimate option for a case like this.

I know a lot of people think the interwebz will eventually make this stuff a non-issue, but I kind of doubt it. If anything it'll increase the discriminatory hiring practices, because everyone you hire is an investment.

Most people think of firing as the big bully picking on the little kid, but it's not. It's not something as a business you want to do because rehiring costs an a**load of money, especially since there is no assurance any replacement will last more than their review period. So usually the school attempts to cover for things like this first, but if it gets out, whether it's leaked or not, it changes how you have to deal with it.

I tell my employees all the time that they are an investment. I'm paying them, but honestly, I'm expected more than what I pay for.

The number one thing I've learned is doing something wrong is fine as long as the wrong people don't find out. It spilled over into her work. You don't fire to assign blame though, you fire to mitigate loss overall.

I want to know how these rumours began circulating in the first place. Why would anyone decide to check if their teacher is a porn star or not unless there's something to ignite that suspicion to begin with? Did she unwittingly drop hints or tease about her past?
