Animated Scooby-Doo Film Planned for Theaters
Source: Variety
August 26, 2013

Another Scooby-Doo film is headed to theaters, Variety reports, but this one is set to take an animated approach to the Hanna-Barbera characters. Matt Lieberman (the planned Short Circuit remake) will provide the screenplay.

Created in 1969 by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" introduced the world to a group of four mystery-solving teens, Daphne, Fred, Shaggy and Velma and their cowardly talking dog, Scooby-Doo. The past few decades have seen numerous television spinoffs, two live-action feature films and a number of direct-to-home video projects.

No plot details have been given as of yet and it is currently unclear whether the film will embrace CGI animation or make use of a more tradition hand drawn style.

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are set to produce through Atlas Entertainment.
It being animated has me on-board. I'd love to see what they could do. Just hope the story measures up.

I want Batman as a guest star. Christian Bale, Nolan-style.

As long as Nolan isn't directing the movie:woot:

"We wanted a realistic take on Scooby-Doo. Dogs can't really talk, after all."

:oldrazz:

It'd still be better than what what we've already got and what we're probably going to get.

I enjoyed the first live action movie as a kid. They got all the characters pretty right and Shaggy and Scooby were hilarious together.

Would be nice if it's in 2D.

What I'm wondering is -- is it for the screen or limited screen release.

I suspect it'll be a CG flick, I haven't seen that much hand drawn making money outside of tv.

It seems as far as many studios are concerned the hand drawn animated style is dead. I'm not even sure any major studios have a hand drawn department anymore.

Before the announcement was made, someone made this as an adaptation of the classic crossover.

Whatever happened to that planned Scooby Doo/Wrestlemania film that people were talking about?

i use to enjoy the cartoons as a kid quite a lot.
i haven't seen the live action movies, but matthew lillard seem to have did a spot-on shaggy impression. maybe i should watch them.

I enjoy Lillard as Shaggy, even though the live action films were terrible.
Slowly, I have been completing my iTunes collection of the original series; I almost bought the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo collection at the grocery store, but passed, as I had to pay for my replacement copy of Arkham Asylum for the 360.

If this movie doesn't capture the atmosphere of the original series then I'm not interested.

They need to take cues from the Mystery Inc. cartoon and have it genuinely be scary.

yup. adults make the mistake of talking down to kids in movies.

WWE has the rights to Scooby Doo and The Flinstones.

I must admit...an evil part of me was hoping for all wrestler live action versions...

Some of the things the WWE owns or has licensed now is downright bizarre. I recently read they were marginally headed into the comic book market although I'm not sure exactly what their goal is there.

Yea I dug the first two live action Scooby Doo movies. The second one was the best in my book though, as we actually got to see Coolsville and Mystery Inc's HQ something that was never shown on the cartoon series. Plus all the actors were pretty much spot on in their repective roles.
