ShockTillYouDrop.com talked exclusively to I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence at the San Diego Comic-Con today. The helmer is at the convention to promote his new NBC series, "Kings," but Shock asked him about the rumor of a prequel to the hit Will Smith starrer that made $584.1 million in theaters worldwide. Not only does he confirm they are developing a prequel, but he says that Will Smith would be interested in returning!

You can read the full interview here!

A prequel to what? The virus starting? What the heck will the movie be about.

LOL I thought this thread was going to be about a prequel to the 80's Tom Cruise Fantasy flick Legend. This news is stupid

I liked the first film. If they can do a second installment right, with a story worth being told, then I'm all for it.

Well anytime something makes alot of money you can either think a prequel o sequel is gonna be made.

Will Smith returns as a zombie! A July 4th, 2009 release!

I Am Dark Seeker.

He can bring back his trademark "theme song for every movie I make" thing and have a music video where he and other zombies are dancing a la Thriller.

They should have kept the original ending...that way it won't have to be a prequel

They had the whole movie to tell about what had happened before the post-virus events :down

I was hoping this meant a prequel to Ridley Scott's Legend... :(

A storyline this unique had the potential to be a franchise. I'm still not sure what these morons were thinking when deciding on Will Smith character's fate. The potential for this franchise ended with Robert Neville's death. A prequel would be pointless.

It's not entirely pointless. Yeah it was a same that they killed off Nevillle. (The Alternate Ending was way better and more humane and had so much more depth) Still in the movie I felt there could be much more action and drama with the actual mass transformation of the zombies. And if Smith is attached it certainly could have Epic potential.

Looks like someone has been to the farm to milk the cows recently.

If they really wanted to they can do a sequel but they would have to make sure the audiences see that Alternate Ending :o It can be the prologue to the sequel itself

I'm really confused...nothing happened before the virus hit...what....is it just gonna be a 2 hour movie about Will Smith working in a lab? 8|

This is what Hollywood has become... okay we got a money maker... now we need our sequel, our prequel... then two more sequels then a prequel about the prequel then we need a reboot or sequel trilogy depending on whether the last film flopped or not and then we need our prequels to that...and of course we are going to keep paying to see them. What's new...

Exactly! And, it's a 4th of July release, so that guarentees $200 million right there.

But back to the point(I haven't watched this film for a while so try and bare with me), I'm pretty sure that at the beginning it said(after the television interview): a few years/months later. I'm pretty sure Neville(Smith) wasn't sitting down in his lab drinking himself to death while trying to find a cure. I'm pretty sure he had to go outside and face these "Dark-Seekers". But, I sense this to be yet another boring film. I'd rather watch Smith tap-dance for two hours than have to watch some boring, life-less "action/horror/thriller/drama" movie(I don't know what genre it's under). Anyways, I hope this film would take place right after his wife and son's helicopter crashes. That would leave a lot more people in the city with him, it COULD make a better movie, but I doubt they'd even try. They'll just simple throw some script together and make the movie, I can give you all a basic description here, you ready: "Will Smith, Jason Bateman, Kevin Kline and Tommy Lee Jones under one roof! Dark-Seekers surrounding the house! OMG!"

there's only one thing that could improve this movie.

It needs to take place....IN SPACE!
