Drama Sean Baker's Anora (Mikey Madison)

I saw this at Hamburg Film Festival.
Once the 2nd act kick in its so funny and follows some different roads you expected for those movies like
I was expecting Anora will trick Ivan at the end, she cant give up her job for him or something like this. Ivan doesnt care about her when his parents coming - even after the wedding - and Anora heartbroken is a nice spin of the story.

Sean Baker picking Miami Connection is such a king move.

Saw it today, unbelievable film, Sean Baker does it again.

What they don't tell you from the trailers is it's incredibly funny at times... like Simpsons level comedy. Mikey Madison is def the frontrunner for best actress.

How this movie is only rated R and at least teetering on the edge of NC-17 is beyond me! It doesn't go as far as that one scene in The Brown Bunny (if you know, you know), but it gets very close.

What a wild and unpredictable ride this was. It's like the wet dream of any young couple in their 20s- throw caution to the wind, spend all the money you want, and flip the bird at anyone trying to stop you. Though in this instance, one half of that couple is a spoiled brat and the other is a stripper. This goes places I didn't expect and gets very unpredictable. Kane made the comparison to the Simpsons as far as its comedy. I would agree, but also make the comparison to some of the Coen Brothers' works go, at least as far as the whole middle portion of this movie being one comedy of errors.

That said, the film isn't without its tragic moments and it has quite the sad ending. This film is Mikey Madison's moment. She's already proven herself in shows like Better Things, but I think this film is going to define her range, and for good reason because she is incredible with the range of emotions she goes through. From being treated like a princess to being tossed around like a rag doll, Madison brings her A-game. Both in her acting and some of the moves she pulls off. You know what I mean, if you've seen it.

There's a moment towards the middle of the movie between Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov before they really hit on it and I was like

All right, silly question to ask, but I really wanna see this and I’m in the mood to see a good fun movie today but i’ve been seeing some say its a comedy with a depressing ending. Is that true?

I'd say it's less a depressing ending and more just a downer.

Ok whew I have to let this one process.

Definitely masterfully filmed, acted and produced but man, this movie will wear you out. The whole middle stretch of the film felt like a Safdie Bros movie on steroids and I mean that in a good way. And then yeah the ending is...I dont know what to make of it. I watched it with fairly full crowd and you could just feel the silent awkwardness in the audience as the credits rolled. Like no one knew what to say.

Google lists this as a Romantic Comedy but ...nah this is a HEAVY drama with comedic moments sprinkled in.

There were some people a few rows ahead of me who, when the credits rolled, began to awkwardly clap because they enjoyed the film, but they soon stopped when no one else did.

Not because no one else enjoyed the film. It's just, how do you even immediately respond to that ending?
