After David Kim (John Cho)’s 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a local investigation is opened and a detective is assigned to the case. But 37 hours later and without a single lead, David decides to search the one place no one has looked yet, where all secrets are kept today: his daughter’s laptop. In a hyper-modern thriller told via the technology devices we use every day to communicate, David must trace his daughter’s digital footprints before she disappears forever.

Looks a bit gimmicky but it has a lot of buzz.

Could be entertaining enough.

Just saw this one....very well done. It's similar to Unfriended in that everything is done via devices and you never see the people in real time, but it's tense as ****. The twist is pretty crazy to boot though you can kinda foreshadow it.

My review

It's another laptop movie and I feel like they're finally getting to a point where the gimmick can expand past the conventional horror flicks. I thought it was a pretty decent mystery that uses a laptop screen to its advantage. It's John Cho's movie and he's carrying it the entire time. I thought he was great in it and some of the supporting cast did a fine job. What I find interesting is they use the gimmick, but use Hollywood style directing of a laptop screen... Which is something different from the Unfriended movies and The Den. It makes it easier to follow for those who don't want to be staring at a screen the entire time. Another thing different is this has a bigger budget than those horror flicks. Only drawbacks that I could think of is the 3rd act may or may not make you roll your eyes. I thought it worked for the most part, but I can see people complaining about how "cheesy" it is. With this gimmick, I was actually more emotionally invested in Unfriended Dark Web. I thought worked way more than Searching, but overall, this is a movie meant for a wide audience and it's definitely a good popcorn movie.
8/10

Is the twist
That the daughter died already and the father is struggling to come to terms with this and so invents all the clues as a way of keeping 'her' alive in his mind
, having only seen the trailer in front of when I saw Ant Man & Wasp, that's what occurred to me, could be the 'twist'.

No the twist isn’t something psychological like that.

It's pretty straight forward. You could probably see it coming.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I was surprised at home emotional I got at the end, damn near sobbing.

Discounting big time CBMs, this is probably one of my favorite films of the year. This was presented in a very original format that used the laptop not as a gimmick but as an effective storytelling tool. This movie is also very well-written and has a great theme about the face you present to others and who you really are. Wonderful movie. This and A Quiet Place are probably the 2 films this year that blew me away the most (outside like IW or something like that)

I highly enjoyed this. Felt a bit rushed towards the end, but otherwise fine by me. Like Kane said, Cho carried this, but I think Messing did a great job as well.

I surprisingly got emotional at the end too. This is such an underrated movie! I highly recommend. Starts off slow, but it grips you till the end.

This was a stand alone story and a very good one at that.
