A Reminder That This Thread Is Only To Discuss Episode 5: AKA The Sandwich Saved Me

ANY SPOILERS FOR EPISODES BEYOND THIS ONE MUST BE TAGGED.

Despite Jessica's objections, Trish's new friend Simpson gets involved in the hunt for Kilgrave. Jessica recalls a pivotal moment in her life.

I should maybe just forget about this particular nagging plot thread, AKA "the investigation to prove that Kilgrave exists to prove Hope's innocence that no one seems too serious about actually pursuing," but again, Jessica follows someone to where she knows she'll find Kilgrave, sees Kilgrave, and even though it's been established she has her phone on her which has been established as a tool she uses for taking photographs during investigations, she never once thinks to take a photo of him?

Wow, definitely first time I've seen [BLACKOUT]cunnilingus[/BLACKOUT] in a Marvel production.

Oh, man Kilgrave is such a bastard.

EPISODE 5: AKA THE SANDWICH SAVED ME
This was a step up from the previous episode. Still doesn't feel quite at the level of those first three episodes, so maybe we're in a little lull, and I'm still finding aspects of the central investigation storyline lacking in logic, but this felt like it had more drama and forward momentum. This was thanks largely to David Tennant's Kilgrave being back in the mix, and boy is he a vile villain. It was also nice getting some insight into Jessica's backstory here. The cop guy feels like a poor substitute for Luke Cage, though, so let's get Luke back pronto, please.

The problem with being in episode five is you know the heroic stuff isn't going to be successful. This was a fun one. In fact, I think I smiled and laughed more than I have before. Simpson and Jessica work well together. On the other hand, Malcolm's struggle is painful. The fact that he wasn't a junkie before Killgrave made him sucks. But it makes a lot of sense. On a side note, it appears his powers don't work over the phone, which is a relief. It allows greater Killgrave/Jessica interaction.

Four and a Half Stars. Like I said, a little less stressful, which was good for the moment.

I actually thought it would work and he'd be in the sealed room. Which would lead him to somehow making a clever escape as a backup plan or a twist

The bodyguard mercs makes the most sense as the simplest explanation.

Also the hot coffee part made me laugh pretty hard in a sadistic way :hehe:

I liked the episode plenty, and knew that we couldn't end the threat of Killgrave this fast. Most everything was handled well, but... Yeah I don't get the insta-aggro change between Simpson and Jones. It feels VERY forced. Maybe it's there to show how Jessica is in fact, this damaged person with deep trust issues... But I've seen it before to the point of ad nausea, on the show already and in countless other "rough edged hero with a heart of gold" stories. It was maybe the one VERY false note the show's had the last two episodes. Yeah, I am sure there have been all sort of technical real world flubs that many a lawyer, doctor or other specialist will tell me the show has already whiffed on. This is more about general story telling and character though. It felt like they added Simpson in there to be a foil and add tension, but it doesn't quite make sense given how they met, his reaction and his background. It far from ruins anything, but it sticks in my craw only because I don't see it amounting to much other than getting Jessica to be prickly for no real reason with a character that is out to help her DIRECTLY, something a few other characters have already chosen not to do in her war against Killgrave.

The drama of Malcolm was heart breaking. It just shows the debris a monster like Killgrave leaves in his wake. The phone convo Killgrave had with Jones was just this peek into his disgusting, controlling, perverted nature.

I like that they didn't forget about Hope either. Still... Wouldn't she be in a psychiatric facility?

So if Kilgrave can call JJ any time he wants how come she doesn't fall under his control anymore?

They get into this later, there is an explanation.

Also they about his power not working over distance in the first couple episodes where she tells hopes parents to get her far away and she would be fine.

There was an F word in this episode. It was even subtitled. Malcolm says it towards the end.

"Pick up that coffee."
*picks it up*
"Throw it in your face"
"AHHHH!!!"

God I laughed so hard. Need a gif of it.

"Patsy taught me how to hold a remote with one hand and box a bald-headed bishop with the other" now THAT'S poetry. ;)

[BLACKOUT] Jewel is the name of a stripper. [/BLACKOUT] God, I laughed so hard at this. :D

Simpson annoys me, sorry. Loving Ranger Series Operator Red. I mean, Malcolm, lol :D

It cool seeing some backstory. Kilgrave's face when Jessica answers his question about how she felt when they first met was pretty funny.

Fitting title. :funny:
Saw the episode up to that scene.

So far, this is plenty more enjoyable than Daredevil.

This episode could be great, maybe the best, but, no... almost but no.

In this episode, the serie showed the Flashbacks, what is cool, they serve to say that the powers doesn't brings happiness. Jessica, even with powers, worked in the boring office, and in later, she turned to be a sandwish girl, lol...

The serie again brings a reference about comics: Trish makes a uniform, that is a Jewel's uniform. :applaud

Now, what is for the worst for me, what turned this episode not so good.

- The scene with the kidnapping of Killgrave. He is very powerfull, he control the mind of the people, he is almost invencible, and Jessica follows him many times and Killgrave do not perceive, and his capture is very easy. :(
Finished with the mith.

- Now, the fight with the agents of Killgrave went a shame. The coreography, moviments and sequence are horrible. Who is the director this scene????:wall:
It is so bad that i think that it can be a form of a narrative language.

This was the best episode yet when I watched it, but I watched 6 straight after and that took over. Some great stuff though, and Kilgrave is a great bad guy.

Simpson is seeing Trish, Jessica's only friend. A friend she has a history of trying to protect, even when Trish doesn't want it. I have one close friend who is utterly brilliant and beautiful and kind as hell but comes from a ****ed up home and has had some lousy boyfriends. I can be perfectly cool with a guy right up until she tells me they're going out, at which point I go into older sister judgy mode. It's not mature, I know, but sometimes that big sister attitude just comes out.
