since this is the final season, they have to go out with a blast IMO. we all know they have a low budget, my question is can they really pull off what they want to do, superman/flying/darkseid, etc... and all with a very limited budget? or will we get a crap ton of filler episodes in between? this is the only thing that concerns me a bit. especially if they try to get micheal back, im sure they will have to dish out a pretty penny for him for even one show.

thoughts guys?

I think they got abit of a budget increase last season as there where some effects heavy shots throughout the seasons & I cannot actually recall very many episodes in which there was a lack of any effects/power usage.

Aside from 2 flight scenes involving Hawkman the rest of the effects used on the show last season I thought where pretty darn good considering this is on a TV budget.

They've been doing flight shots for a few years on a lowered budget, while they arguably are not as good as season 3's first flight I think they've been pretty decent when you consider this is a TV budget.

I remember reading that this years budget is the same as last years. I was
quite disappointed to hear such news, because this being the final year
an all, I was really hoping that they'd go the extra mile and try their absolute
best to get a higher budget to better showcase Clarks super-activities, and eventually the flights and tights.

WB bought the buildings surrounding the Smallville Studios, so they are
expanding with bigger sets, which I hope are city-sets. One where some major fight scenes can take place maybe?
I'm surprised no one asked about this at comic-con.
The budget may be the same, but I have great hope in these sets giving the show a new and improved look.

Hopefully they will get increases through the year (like with Absolute Justice last year) because I really want them to be able to showcase Clark/Superman's abilities (not blow it on Hawkman, Blue Beetle, or what have you).

It did have me worried when the producers mentioned how expensive it was to shoot the credits sequences and they'd rather spend the money on effects. Not to mention the thought that they might reuse an already created Superman suit.....:csad:

Also, if I'm not mistaken someone (can't remember if it was one of the showrunners or not) said in an interview this past year that the studio space purchased was for storage and not sets.

I hope they spend their money wisely. Because if they try to focus on having a good Hawkman or Blue Beetle action sequence of whatever, it'll piss me of something fiercely. I can understand the need to try such things in previous season, but this is the last one dammit, focus on the man of the hour in stead of wasting it on secondary characters.

I had the same reaction.

This right here, is like a dagger through the heart. I STILL have a hard time accepting that they didn't just make up one of their own.

Damn, I had high hopes in seeing some great new city streets.:csad:

If they can do modifications on it I thought it was pretty clever of them. The suit does have high production value, if you compare it to other costumes that the Smallville-team have made. (The Green Arrow is the best one to date). I always loved the colors of Dean Cane's suit, but other then that, I think we should be happy that we are not getting something in that budget and quality.

Off topic, but I found this quote from Routh about wearing the costume:
"Very confining. But once you get past that - which is sometimes hard - it's also very empowering. First time I put it on, I felt... stronger. Like a different level of who I am. It makes playing the character much easier."

Wonder if it will have the same effect on Tom. Would be really cool, since he already has a very powerful pressence on screen.

sure their budget hasnt been the best in the past few yrs. But with what they have for the show's budget they still been able to pull some fairly good effects and all that stuff. So i am sure they will be fine this yr too. Plus i am sure for special episodes like the premire, 200th, and series finale they would likely get a boost in money per episode.

If they are gonna use it, I hope then that they use just the spandex and nothing else. The spandex of the SR suit is the lesser evil so to say, hate the million S's everywhere though, but it is the least thing I hate from that suit. The cape, shield and belt in particular I despise in a way that surprises even myself at times. And even if they were gonna use just the spandex, it's already been put together for a far weaker body type that would never in a million years fit the much bigger Tom Welling. Just how are they even gonna do these modifications? Unless they were given more of the same material for them to make a new suit, if they even had any extra.

And as for the Dean Cain suit. I don't see why so many people hated it.
Routh had a suit that cost the same as a brand new Ferrari EACH, and IMO looked pretty damn bad and that suit was even filled with frikkin padding.

This is how Dean Cain looked with cheap spandex. It's not in the material, it's in the design, and the actors physique. Cain had the right body type and elevated above the cheap spandex and looked good as superman.
Welling can do the same with similar materials. The first picture there is how I imagined the Smallville suit would look like, with a better belt and cape attachment obviously.

They should have just abadoned the opening credits and just do a simple Smallville opening.

Dean Cain was in superb shape as Superman. He even puts today's bulked up superhero actors to shame.

However, the costume IS lame. The boots are awful, they do not even match the red of the rest of the suit. They are clearly purchased rather than made by the costume department. The trunks looks like a nappy, a padded nappy. The cape is cool, but the belt is chunky and foamy looking. The whole thing looks cheap.

Plus, Cain never looked comfortable wearing it. As everyone always says, he was a great Clark Kent, not a great Superman.

Hehe, the best built superman we've ever had. Terrific physique.

Depends which part of the costume.
In my previous post I was largely talking about the spandex and the cape, the rest is debatable.

Always felt the same way. The boots were never good, but we never really saw much of them so...

LOL.

I never really paid much attention to the trunks.

Always loved the cape, especially the yellow shield. It just looked so damned good IMO. I did however always hate that belt, never ever liked it. It just looked wrong.

There's a history behind that. The cape they used was the longest one any superman actor had ever worn, also making it the heaviest. They had problems keeping it attached to the tights. That's why there were a few different looking costumes at the beginning of the series. But eventually they came to a strange conclusion, and one that pisses me off to this day, because it flattened his frame and made him look bad for the rest of the series. They put the cape on first, rolling it under his armpits and then put the blue tights on. The shield was made much bigger to hide this, and at the same time flattening his frame completely, thereby taking away his most imposing feature. He had every right to be feel uncomfortable. Like he said himself about the show, " The hardest part was working out"
