Now this is a friend of a friend type thing but I was told by someone that their friend out in LA received a casting call notice for the character of Wendell Vaughn for Agents of SHIELD.

I guess the character would be a new recruit for the season finale and then appear randomly in the first half of season 2 and then have a huge story arc from mid-season on.

This sounds too much to be true to me but then I remembered all the rumors of him being and Agent in the first Avengers film so clearly they want this character around.

Another character I'm not familiar with (I'll have to do some reading), but that's interesting... In "Seeds" (the episode where they were all at the academy), I recall Leo Fitz mentioning professor Vaughn's classes. Given Whedon's propensity for foreshadowing, I'm not at all surprised he'd show up.

EDIT: According to this page, he was also referenced in episode 0-8-4, though I missed it.

Although the CG has been decent most of the time this is a character that would do better cinematically if we can the constructs, flying and costume to look any good.

This opens up a lot of possibilities as far as the cosmic end of things starting to trickle into AoS a bit. I don't see why they would introduce Wendell if they aren't planning to incorporate Quasar.

I honestly feel that Quasar would be his big arch I'm the end of the season which would have him leaving and joining the GotG

Huge news, if true. I loved Quasar. Now, just have Marvel Boy in Agent Carter...

Is your friend of a friend a pretty established actor already? Kinda hard to believe that they'd open up an established Marvel superhero to unknown actors. Quasar's not a huge name, but he's got important ties to GOTG, SHIELD, and The Avengers.

Cautiously optimistic about this news. Wendell Vaughn is just obscure enough to make this a believable rumor (i.e., not some fanwanker just dragging a well-known superhero name out of their hat), but also enough of a key player in Cosmic Marvel to make it doubtful that they'd trust the role to the inexperienced.

It makes sense that they'd want to use some type of TV character, who wouldn't necessarily be expected for a movie, as a tie in with GotG (before and/or after, since it's between seasons). And since his name has already been mentioned twice, it certainly seems like this has all been part of the #ThePlan.

another character i dont know anything about...like the person above said time to do some reading.

edt: okay read up on the character..!! It would be awesome if true..!

Do they normally list the characters name on the sheet? I think Marvel would just list a set of desired physical characters and not much else.

Wendell Vaughn would work very well in Agents of SHIELD or the Marvel Cinema Universe. Vaughn getting the Quantum Bands and becoming an important force in the universe and give Nick Fury what he would want: a human representative among the various alien races to put Earth on the galactic stage. Only thing, Wendell Vaughn isn't exactly the SHIELD agent Fury would pick. In the comics, Vaughn lacked a "killer instinct" that made him unsuited for SHIELD field work but made him a great cosmic level superhero.

Good point.
That probably makes this rumor bogus. Marvel --- in fact, pretty much all studios --- don't send out casting calls for a specific character by name, but rather a character description.

I can't really see Wendell being done justice on a TV budget, even for a quick introduction before movie appearances. It also would be kind of dubious to build up a character with relationships and events, then utterly divorce said character from that origin, which is about what this would entail. If Wendell Vaughn's SHIELD backstory amounts to 5 minutes of executive summary before he goes cosmic, why waste time on the TV show doing more than that?

It sounds like they want him for all of season two, which would be pretty substantial.

After that Deathlok leg CGI I'm not doubting them being able to do Vaughn.

Who would every like to see cast?
I know that Vaughn is supposed to be 5'10 but I think that Derek Theler would make an amazing Wendell Vaughn. Hell I just want him in a Marvel role. He's not 5'10 though, he's 6'5 lol

He's also already part of the ABC/Disney Family

I think he would be a good choice, but might be hard time to get him away from Baby Daddy.

Baby Daddy films in the summer for the most part but its also on the ABC lot where a lot of Shield is filmed

Ah this would be cool though... especially if Quasar factors into the GOTG sequel. Introducing him in AOS could help the show and put his name and face in audiences brain

any update on the wendell vaughn rumour?

I really hope if Professor Vaughn is related to Wendell Vaughn that its his dad. His dad was quite the scientist.

Then again, I can be a purist when it comes to backstories. Wendell's parents divorced so he was always closer to his mom, but still wanted to please his dad.

His mom pleads with him "As for your father, you know what kind of man he is. It's his rigid impersonal way that made it impossible to stay married. You've got to get over trying to please him, sonner, and work on just pleasing yourself."

At the Academy, he threw himself into all his classes for SHIELD; got top marks and perfect test scores but...

They said he was too nice, not aggressive enough and would never work out as a SHIELD Agent. They didn't even place him anywhere until the elder Vaughm pulls strings so that Wendell gets assigned to detail at Stark Industries while they investigate mysterious gold bands...

I'm sure you can guess what happens next.

Wendell would be fun and he was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, too.

I've also always wondered what would happen if Wendell met Phil because if you look at Wendell's childhood bedroom, it looks just like I imagined Phil's would have looked like...with a large poster of Captain America right over the bed.
