Pet peeve time!

I hate...HATE when this show over-dramatizes the removal of the glasses as if THAT'S the actual key to the "disguise." It just gives fuel to all those people who are like "the disguise is dumb!" When it completely misses the point - which is that we project so much of our own ideas of Superman onto him that we refuse to be able to see him as a goofy, humble farm dork who works a 9-to-5 and has to do laundry like everyone else. It just does not compute in our brains. The glasses are just the visual representation of the human "flaws" we don't allow ourselves to see in Superman. That's the brilliance of it imo, because it says more about us than him. When you make it "all about the glasses" you just invite ridicule. It's like they expect the reaction of the glasses removal to be "Gasp! You suddenly look like Superman!!!" And for some reason this show likes to roll with that as the dramatic moment each time they do the reveal. :weeping:

I agree... except I think in this particular scene its a) a callback to the pilot and b) its absolutely done in a comedic way to poke fun at the concept. So it didn't bother me as much.

I read that this will be Dylan Walsh's (Sam Lane) final episode.

I wonder if the ship gave him the powers?

Luthor is so deliciously evil and manipulative- I love it. He doesn't even need Superman around in order to drive a wedge between Lois and the boys.

And with this flashback, I'm just realizing that we haven't seen Martha Kent at all since...maybe the pilot, right?

She appeared in at least two more episodes in Season 1. One where we saw a teenage Clark leave Smallville and the other where Clark returned from the FOS after being away for many years.

That was intense

FINALLY. Though it doesnt hit the same mark as it would if it was OG Jonathan getting his powers. Just hits a bit differently.

But overall really good episode. While thug Luthor is still a bit weird to me....I am enjoying how he is winning at the moment and the heroes are taking big losses. Adds to the intensity of the season.

I kind of dont want CLark to be alive yet because I am enjoying the flashbacks we're getting to keep him in the story and Im not ready for those to end.

I had to LOL at Sam basically being like "Jon got powers!?! Finally!! This is what I've been waiting for! Jordan who????" :funny: But yes, finally the right son has powers now, thank god. Even though I found it weirdly executed. Can't be mad at it though.

Very glad to have been right about them not dragging Clark's death out for most of the season (actually I guess he's coming back even sooner than I'd predicted, which...again, can't be mad!).

Those last 15 mins were very effective and emotional. A lovely sendoff. The boys wearing the shirts Sam gave them for their birthday at the end there broke me a little.

It cannot be stated how much more I appreciate this actor for Jon. Very glad to have him in the role now.

I still believe Luthor has Superman's heart, so I'm very curious to see what plans the writers have for that.

Looking back at the previous three seasons, I feel like there's been little to no growth for Jordan's character. Jonathan on the other hand, even with the change in actors, has definitely grown on his own and constantly shown why he deserves to have powers IMHO.

I wouldn't call it "growth" but Jordan's character has certainly changed and evolved. Just...not entirely for the better. You look at where he was in the pilot, and he's definitely different now. But like, if we had more seasons of this show coming, I'd honestly be expecting a villain arc for him. Since we don't, now I'm just hoping he finds some peace and emotional balance before the end. Somehow he feels like he needs an extra dose of both self-confidence AND humility at the same time. :funny:

Another really solid episode with some great dramatic moments. I am also kind of bummed that they are bringing Clark/Supes back so early because its honestly gotten more interesting without him.

Luthor actually feels like a genuine threat right now with the odds pretty much stack in his favor and I kind of want to see more of that feeling of hopelessness for the Kents because it adds stakes.

I'm not complaining though because the more Supes the better and while I pretty much expected from the beginning it was still pretty sad seeing Sam Lane go out the way he did.

I really enjoyed Dylan Walsh in that role but at least he got a nice sendoff.

Luther is such a prick. I wish this show had the budget to truly show the power of Doomsday and Krypton twins. Good episode overall and they used away to revive Superman that I never saw coming.

Why didn’t he just do the iconic Shirt-rip?!
Sam: "Clark, how did you steal Superman's outfit and why are you wearing it?"

That's why. But on the real, that would've made more sense. The whole glasses thing is just laughably ridiculous just as it was in Superman II. I mean, the people of Smallville and Metropolis really must be blind!

Luthor is scum, for playing that tape to try and divide Jordan from Lois. I have to admit I didn’t see General Lane sacrificing himself to get Clark’s heart. That was bold of him. Now let’s see how the recovery process goes for Kal-EL.

I have a slight feeling Kal - EL won't have his powers upon awakening wether he gets them back remains to be seen. Luthor is a toxic meathead but played brilliantly buy Micheal. The guy has mad presence on screen. Looking forward to the resolution between him and Superman near the end of the season. So far so good...

Tru, I was waiting for him to lift the desk with his pinky or Lazer vision something in the office....

The glasses reveal just doesn't work anymore

Very emotional last season and not good for anyone who has also lost someone close to them. Hits a little too close to home.

If Jordan were more mature, he wouldn't have cared that his mother picked Jonathan. He would've said that he would've wanted her to pick him too and would have sacrificed himself instead of losing his brother. That shows he's not very much of a true hero. That would've also disarmed Luthor.

Even if Superman comes back, he can't fight and beat Doomsday. Who is to say Doomsday can't just rip his heart out again? He needs a better plan next time round.

Still feel that Luthor is more White Supremacist Luthor than traditional Luthor. He's a real thug. I think he should die at the end since he can always get out of prison operate from there. Maybe his daughter will be the one to shoot him?

Not sure how I feel about Jon getting powers but it was inevitable and handled well and all in all, a pretty exciting episode. Nice to see John Henry Irons and Natalie back. Still getting used to seeing so little of the supporting cast, I got so used to the b-plots involving them :funny:

Sure glad its not bingeable, as that is another episode that I would need a break after.

Gotta say, having Doomsday as this ongoing threat is pretty great. compared to the original comic story.

Bitsie Tulloch is really going all out this season. I mean, she was great last season, but she is keeping the bar high this season as well.

Sadly spoiled by Jon getting powers. But the scene overall is great. Good to see Jon just unload all of his feelings, even if he is unreasonably angry with Jordan.

Good to have John and Natalie again, even if I kind of wish they interacted more with others besides themselves.

I kind of mistook what Gen Lane's original plan was, but it kind of became clear before his death. And again, man, Bitsie Tulloch's scream was powerful. I too have concerns Lara. I think the heart may give Clark a mullet.
