Official Description:

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST- Kara (Melissa Benoist) attempts to mend her relationship with Lena (Katie McGrath). J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) takes a deep dive into his memories while Kelly (Azie Tesfai) tries to help an old friend. Eric Dean Seaton directed the episode written by Lindsay Struman & J. Holtham (#503). Original airdate 10/20/2019.

While Lindsay Struman joined the writing staff of the show towards the end of last season (her first ep as a writer was "Crime and Punishment"), J. Holtham's a newbie to the show this year, coming over from the last season of Jessica Jones (which I thought was damn good). Seaton's also a new director.

They're moving the story along so far.

I wonder what episode is Jay Faerber writing.

So Kara is aware that Lena hasn't really forgiven her and is seeking revenge?

I think “seeking revenge” is an overstatement of Lena’s speech at the end of this episode, but yeah, it would appear Lena’s forgiveness act doesn’t last long, based on this description.

So going by the preview is the villain going to be arachnolady?

Promo:

I don't know who this villain's supposed to be. "Arachnolady" sounds about right, lol.

Yep, and I like I said, that sounds about right. Seems like a really random villain, but we'll see.

Filler episode? Seems like this would have worked as a sort of "Halloween episode" but at the very least it looks like a fun, action packed episode.

Also, after tonight's ep, I'm going to revise my assessment that Lena's facade of forgiveness is lifted, as I now think "Kara attempts to mend their relationship" just means they're gonna try to hang out as friends again. So she'll still be in the dark about Lena's true feelings, and probably will be for a long time.

That is what I was thinking.....far to easy for Kara to find out .... I'm thinking the reveal will be much, much more emotional.

Ok I get wanting to use the actors, but this Martian stuff makes no damn sense. J'onn took Hank Henshaw's face. Why would he look like him in these "dream flashbacks"???

Oooooh, is this shadow monster thing meant to be Acrata? If so, I guess Andrea's getting the power now.

A little bit better than last week's episode imo. Very focused on J'onn, but I like his storyline for the most part.

I really hope William isn't being set up as a love interest after this one. It would feel forced and Kara obviously knows he's up to no good.

Lena is just making me mad now and arachnolady was a bit of a letdown.

They're really using the super speed effect this season, huh?

I thought it was a much better episode than last week. Lena came off like less of a mustache-twirling villain this time, and actually seemed to show some remorse - or at least inner-conflict - over manipulating Kara.

I don't think that's the last we've seen of the aracno-whatever. I mean, it just disappeared after it knocked down Alex, right? Unless I missed the resolution to that element, it'll be back. Right now I suspect it was setup for Acrata/Andrea.

I liked the Martian storyline for the most part. And I also appreciated the parallel of our most heroic characters crossing moral boundaries and committing not-so-heroic acts for the people they care about.

And I'll just say something I almost never say around here: I liked James this episode. A lot. I wish we'd seen more of this "good friend who just wants to help" version of the character throughout the series, instead of the wishy-washy "cool guy" love interest version, judgemental big brother version, or glory-seeking "hero" version we got in past seasons. I could've actually gotten on board with this guy, and possibly even his romance with Kara way back when. Oh well, at least Mehcad seems to be going out on a positive note.

I enjoyed it for the most part....but of course lol....J'onns story totally took me out when they were forced to be cheap and have everyone in his memories appear human...I just hate it when tv shows take on Alien characters they cant afford.

But I hope this is the last we hear of Kara and her "me lying to lena for so long was so hard" like we get it. We get that Lena is still angry, we know kara feels guilty....lets just play this out.

They continued to focus on J'onn from last week than anything else.

I know some folks complain about the flashforwards in Arrow. (Boring, frustrating, etc.) Well, I feel the same about the current J’onn J’onzz subplot. Allegedly, Malefic is relevant to Crisis. So maybe it’ll all make sense. Eventually. But until then… :sleepy:

Actually, I don’t find any of the other storylines particularly engaging either. So perhaps I shouldn’t single out J’onn J’onzz.

And it’s a small thing, but… Even if the spider silk was super strong, Kara would have been able to tear out the brick wall that the silk was stuck to. It’d be like you or me being handcuffed to a piece of cardboard. Also, why the gag? Seems like covering Kara’s eyes would have been the smarter move (especially since heat vision proved to be her means of escape). ;nd

+1 point for more Brainy poetry.

Good episode, with a focus on J'onn. Felt less running in place than last week's.

I thought this was ok. The opening bathroom scene kinda made me laugh because of the way it was cut.

I’m kinda meh on the J’onn storyline, but I like how his brother is just changing to everyone. Certainly helps to be able to read minds and know how these people sound and act.
