Official description:

SAYING GOODBYE IS HARD TO DO - Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) investigation into William Dey’s (Staz Nair) “criminal” activities results in the shocking revelation he is not who she thinks. Meanwhile, the conflict between Malefic and J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) reaches a boiling point. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Jay Faerber & Jess Kardos (#504). Original airdate 10/27/2019.

Looking forward to Jay Faerber's writing debut.

Loved the Lena/Brainy scenes last season so I'm looking forward to more of that.

Lena Luthor and Brainiac 5 represent a variation of the Luthor/ Brainiac dynamic.

Tv-14 huh? This should be good.

Alex thinking this was somehow her fault was quite a stretch even before she knew about J'onn's culpability. Like, I get she finds a way to blame herself for everything, but that seemed like quite a leap even for her. I feel like they added that aspect just to make J'onn feel worse, lol.

Good episode in how well Supergirl and Kara were shown.

Lena got what she wanted in playing the others.

They guess this is James Olsen’s final episode.

Good episode from Jay Faerber.

Yeah Faerber made a solid debut here, imo.

More cool Supergirl action stuff than usual and some fun character dynamics. I loved the new gag of simply cutting away to see Supergirl's instantly changed into Kara as a quick cover (even though using it 3 times in one episode might have been a bit much, lol). The Alex/J'onn stuff was very affecting, James and Kelly's story was a bit dull (what else is new) but it was nice to get more of their dynamic, I HATE that William seems to be so clearly a love interest but Kara and Nia's investigation into him was a good watch, and Lena/Brainy continues to be one of my favorite rare team-ups.

I will say though, I hope they don't drag out this whole "Kara doesn't know Lena hasn't forgiven her” thing for much longer because watching all their lovely interactions knowing Lena's not being genuine in any of them is becoming a bit hard to watch. I'm ready for them to have a big blow-up already. Kara needs a chance to call Lena out on some of her hypocrisy and all the shady **** she pulled with her in the past - and remind her of all the times she DID have Lena's back, both as Kara and Supergirl - and the only way that's happening is if Lena finally gets properly mad and lashes out at Kara for real. I'm not seeing any of this "fight for Lena's soul" they promised us, and I won't until Kara actually knows she needs to fight for it. But they're getting to the point where Lena's gonna be too irredeemable by the time that fight happens for us to even want Kara to win it.

But aside from that and how much I dislike where this William thing seems to be going, I dug this ep.

Much, much better than the last two episodes. Action packed and Kara's investigation into William was interesting, even though he's definitely going to be a love interest.

Solid send-off for James/Jimmy

I know J'onn said something towards the end of the episode as to why he believed Alex was saying those things, but my first thought was "Why would you believe that that's Alex and when and why did Nia tell her?"

Lena working with Malefic makes a lot of sense.

My only gripes with this episode were Simon getting all mad about James heading back to National City. What did you expect, kid? (I know they used it to set up his farewell, but still a little silly imo) and the other one is that William is obviously heading into the direction of love interest. A platonic working relationship between Kara and William would be just fine.

Really enjoyed this episode and I'm glad it seems back on track after not being a big fan of episodes 2&3.

Same feeling, as this was a lot better than the last two. The story didn't feel as rushed and tough I did zone out during the James arc, the other parts had me paying attention.
Kara does need to start to get an idea that she is being used. And Lena, if this is a 'fight for her soul,' has to start seeing that maybe she is going about things the wrong way. Everyone is treating her as a trusted allie and friend now, so she has to start wondering and questioning herself.

Her scenes are a nice duality, in that she is great interacting with the others, but there is that undercurrent of deception underlying it all. I may not be fully convinced of Lena's reasons, but they are pulling it off very well.

I'm really hoping she starts to seriously question herself, and hope that Hope takes that moment to run with the 'plan' without her consent. There has to be something redeemable about Lena for us to care for her outcome after all.

For James, if that was his send-off, then it went alright. Again, I was a bit bored with the arc but him going back to his roots was believable. And I like that he went back to Jimmy at the end.

I thought the episode was alright. But, of course Jimmy wants to be called by that when he’s off the show. :oldrazz:
