Didn't see a thread for this yet.

But Square Enix announced last week they are doing a 3D remake of one of their most classic and beloved RPGs - Secret of Mana!

It will release digitally only it seems (boo!) on February 15, 2018 for the PS4, Vita, and PC.

I'm genuinely surprised this is not on the Switch! It seems perfect for that, especially considering the original game was a SNES title. maybe they will announce a Switch version later?

As someone who never played the original, I'm looking forward to this. Though I'm a bit iffy on the 3D art style. Would have preferred if it had a more updated "traditional" look like I Am Setsuna.

also, I hope this starts a trend and we see more remakes of classic SNES era RPGs. Would love to see BOF 1 and 2 remakes, for instance.

I would be shocked if it doesn't land on the Switch. Odds are they just didn't think the Switch worth focusing on yet when it was put into development.

The real million dollar question is "Will it add back in cut content? And if so, how much?" At the very least, it really *should* redo the english translation and put back in the script that got cut due to text box issues. The grand prize would be if it reincorporates the Nintendo Playstation losses, giving back a good half the game or so.

Man, they really need to put this on the Switch. Loved this game when it came out so it would be nice to take the game on the go too as I wouldn't mind playing this again. I'm not buying a Vita!

I did find it funny when they announced it was on the Vita of all consoles. But I know that some people still play it for the JRPGs and indie titles that still get released on it even though Sony abandoned it. A Switch port would be nice, but you can get the originals (I know 3D would be better than 16-bit graphics).

But nothing "confirmed or planned."

Square Enix is considering bringing the upcoming Secret of Mana remake to Switch, producer Masaru Oyamada told USgamer.
“To kind of give background in terms of when the project started, it was about two years ago, and the Switch hadn’t been announced,” Oyamada said. “Once we had announced this particular remake title, we were very surprised to see the amount of demand and feedback we received for a potential Switch version.”

Oyamada added, “So, the voices are heard, we’re aware that people are desiring a Switch version, and we will make an effort to see what is feasible in the future, though nothing is confirmed or planned.”
The producer added that Square Enix has also heard the demands for a western localization of Seiken Densetsu Collection, a collection of the first three Seiken Densetsu games for Switch.

“Obviously, our focus is on Secret of Mana since we’re in the last part of its development, so obviously it’s hard to definitely say that yes, we will release it,” Oyamada said. “But we’ve obviously heard a lot of demands and requests for that game to be released in the west, and that’s something we will do our best to hopefully achieve, but nothing at this moment in time.”

I am much more excited about them bringing the Seiken Densetsu Collection west, than the Secret of Mana remake. At least, unless the SoM remake includes big chunks of the original deleted content.

Secret Of Mana is my favorite old school RPG (aside from Final Fantasy IV / VI) so to get an HD remake 25 years later was a wonderful surprise. I just got Popoi and Primm in my party tonight so it will be awhile before I finish the game.

I know people have their reservations since its not easy to do with this with a classic game. Its A LOT to live up to, but I can assure you they did justice updating everything to 3D. The graphics are simply wonderful. Both in-game and the beginning animations.

The only drawback so far is some of the voice acting is left to be desired (Randi sounds like a wuss. Popoi is voiced by a woman.), but you can turn it off to get the vintage mute feeling back I think. The best part is you can play the original music AND you can play multi-player with 2 other friends just like the Super Nintendo days! All you have to do is turn on two other controllers and sign into their PSN accounts or guest.

I highly recommend picking this up either by physical copy or digital download.

Secret of Mana PS4 Remake Will Have a Limited Physical Release in America

Man, they weren't kidding. I had to go to like 3 different Game Stop locations before I was finally able to buy a copy.
