Ben Garner (Ryan Phillippe) is about to go from Good Samaritan to murder suspect, after he discovers the body of his neighbor's young son in the woods. As Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) digs for the truth, the secrets and lies of this town come to the surface and no one is above suspicion. Ben's family's life will be turned upside down as he sets out on a complicated journey to prove his innocence in this thriller mystery from Barbie Kligman ("Private Practice") based on the original Australian series of the same name.

I'm a sucker for a good mystery and like the two leads, hopefully this will be more of an event series than something they intend to run into seasons.

wow actually that looks pretty good.

starts tonight, I'm hoping this is good

Really good premiere. Phillippe is stellar in the lead role. I don't know if he did it but I really hope not because I was feeling for the guy and getting seriously pissed off at Juliette Lewis and the cops. Looks like things get really crazy in the coming weeks.

Great start and has me completely hooked due to Phillipe and the setting. He makes for such a compelling lead, like you feel you could be him, unless of course he did it, but the range of emotions Ben went through had me so conflicted as you feel he can't be telling the full truth yet he seems anything but a bad guy. The scene where he had to tell his little girl Tom was his son was so well acted. :(

I was thinking his wife had kicked him out and had him couched because he'd had an affair and I guessed he had been with Jess at some point so figured she might be the affair, but since that was clearly 6 years prior I wonder what the fight was about the night of Tom's death.

The reveal about Christy having an abortion without telling him was a surprise, and it puts her in the frame as it's possible she already knew Tom was Ben's son.

His Kevin Smth-alike friend brought up an interesting point about how could Scott know the DNA results before it hit the media? and I am not totally sure I trust his lawyer friend, on both occasions he advised him not to cooperate, although the lawyer he hooked him up with looks like he's going to be a good character.

On a side note it's good to see Garner from Baywatch in work! :awesome:

Juliette Lewis played the role so harsh and cold that it's impossible not to dislike her and side with Ben, it will be interesting to see what more there is to her.

Damn this looks like it's not going to be dropping the pace anytime soon!

Loved the premier, I wonder how many episodes this will have I'm guessing about 13-16 with little to no filler.

wait is this back on again tonight?

ah ok, IMDB had March 2nd listed, guessing they aired both last night instead

Yeah, when you click on the season 1 link for the list of eps though they have the right dates. I am kinda glad it's only 10 eps as that should keep it tight and focused.

My early guess is the wife Christy is the killer. I'm getting creepy Amazing Amy from Gone Girl vibes off of her.

Originally I wondered if they would keep the killer the same as the one in the original Australian series.

Spoilers
The killer in the original Australian show is the youngest daughter who is a sociopath.

Another excellent episode, poor Ben is getting hit from all sides! I don't think his friend diddled his daughter but they did throw a couple of hints up in the ep that he may have an eye for a younger girl and was "hands on" with Natalie which caught Ben's eye.

I'm kinda waiting for Christy to verbally smack Cornell and I thought she was going to do it when she showed up with YouTube video. I mean I know in his situation Ben's actions at the party were ill advised but I'm sure in the heat of the moment most fathers would have said what he did to a 21 year old *****e that was sleazing on his 16 year old daughter who he also found out may be pregnant.

My suspicions this week turned to the younger daughter Abbie, given her reactions to Tom's death and her pushing the kid over who called her Dad child killer, she's very clingy to Ben. However I don't think she would have put the torch back in his truck and if I recall they said the blow that killed him had been delivered with considerable force. The only way she could be involved is if Ben covered it up, however the story is being told through his eyes and his search for the truth, if he is in any way involved it makes the show a big con.

I knew Jess's sister was no good! :argh:

Ryan tweeted that the ending is different from the Aus version and twice as shocking

[BLACKOUT]so Im guessing its gonna end up being both the daughters :o[/BLACKOUT]

I wish I hadn't read that. :( Of course they could have switched a lot more than that, I doubt Phillipe is dumb enough to give away such a simply deduced clue. It would mean I was on the right track with [BLACKOUT]Abbie's somewhat disconnected emotions regarding Tom's death and her worship of Ben[/BLACKOUT] though. :shr:

[BLACKOUT]Ive yet to see last nights episode, but the one thing I noticed was how noticeably clingy she was with him, heck perhaps its the kid with autism [/BLACKOUT]:o

:funny: I'm still not sure what to make of Jess, some of her reactions are a little off, like she is trying to use Tom's death to pull Ben closer.

yeah there are not many suspects though, I mean we can already rule out Sean, as there is no way in hell that this show will have a decorated soldier be a child killer

If they wanted a shocking twist I guess Tom's mom could be the killer as she is the person least likely to be the killer.

I had a feeling the guy that hired Ben for the decorating job was too good to be true, didn't see the journalist twist though. I'm still not sure about his best buddy, I don't think he had sex with Natalie but he's slightly off to me.

I also get the feeling Cornell doesn't actually think Ben did it, she's using him to deflect attention away her investigation and his pro-active nature is working to her benefit.

I think I finally found a TV character I hate more than Jessica Lange's awful characters on American Horror Story. Cornell. It's partially because Cornell is annoying as hell and partially because Juliette Lewis is terrible in the role. I typically like her but she's out of her depth here. Lewis is best when she's playing drugged-up or mentally deranged characters. She seems to think she has to act like a f***ing android in order to play a no-nonsense cop. She only has ONE facial expression. Seriously, it's like Cornell was sent back in time by Skynet to find Ryan Phillippe guilty of murder. I'm really digging this show but every time she shows up, I roll my eyes.

Detective Cornell comes across like a psychopath. I don't see any real veteran homicide detective ever behaving like this. Stalking a 'suspect' and giving him death stares in the hope it will rattle him into revealing he murdered his kid seems like at best a last resort tactic.
