Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Directed By: Kevin Munroe

Running Time: 1 Hour and 35 Minutes

When a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was announced, I was skeptical. One, being that a new film would not match the greatness the the first. Two, that the Turtle's last adventure wasn't exactly all that good. However, I was interested to hear that this film will be CGI and will try to focus on the darker tone of the comic it's based on. The teaser trailer was great, while the theatrical trailer was less than impressive because it seemed to dwell more on the humor than the story. Then the chance came to see the film at a free screening. Here was my chance to see this film in it's entirety, to finally judge it as a great film, or just another piece of harmless animated fluff that has been populating our movie screens.

Having finally seen the film, I can tell you this: we have found 2007's answer to The Incredibles.

Our story begins not long after the defeat of Shredder in previous installments (sorry Shredder fans, he's not in the film). The turtles seem to have grown apart as a team. Team leader Leonardo have left for traning, and hasn't been seen again for a year. Raphael has become a vigilante known as the Nigh****cher, who defends the city against crime, while also hiding the secret from his brothers. Donatello is working as a computer technician, and Michelangelo is working as a entertainer at kid's birthday parties(his outfit is hysterical). Splinter is doing his usual Splinter thing, giving advice, and being uber-wise, whil also seriving as a father figure for the turtles. April and Casey seem to be a couple now, and still visit the turtles now and again, while also working together at April's new company.

Soon, after a visit from April, Leo decides to return to the city and rejoin his brothers. Soon after, a new evil plot is brewing by a individual know as Max Winters. He has resurrected long dormant statues, to hunt down monsters that are overrunning the city. So, it's up to the Turtles to stop him,all the while dealing with an army of Foot soliders lead by a new leader.

The reason why I'm comparing this film to The Incredibles is because of one thing, the Turtles are a family. Like The Incredibles, TMNT deals with the issue of working together, and dealing with their problems. The main arc of the film is the sibling rivaly of Leo, and Raph. Throughout, they are always at odds, and this rivalry concludes with a rooftop, rain soaked battle (which was awesome). It's the chemistry of the brothers, along with Splinter himself, that held this film together tightly. Never once, did the film ever fall apart, as it kept it's energy throughout.

The tone of the movie was dark, but not too dark. It was pleasing not to see another cutesy animated film on the screen. This film had a rather dark story, and was fairly intense at a few moments. However, to lighten the mood, the film also has a few funny bits. A couple of scenes of the interaction between the brothers was of course where the main bits of humor came from. Whenever the camera focused on Michelangelo, he steals the scene, as he truely acts like a teenager throughout the picture.

I haven't even gotten to the action sequences. If you've only seen the trailers, you haven't seen anything yet. My compliments to the digital chef. Not only are the action sequences top notch, but they are some of the best CG fights I've seen. I've already mentioned the Raph and Leo fight, but the whole final fight was incredible. There was a moment, where the camera basically surveyed this huge fight and every character was given their chance to shine, it was an incredible moment in the film, if this film gets an IMAX release, this will be the reason why I would gladly pay full price for it. The CG camera work here was brilliant, and never did any of the fights feel shakey and unwatchable like what most studios do with their live action fight scenes.

So, in the end, definately go see this movie come March 23rd. It wil not only please regualr moviegoing audiences, but will enthrall almost every TMNT fan in the world.

Grade: 10/10

well, if you've really seen it, then i'm glad you liked it, but, you didn't tell us anything we didn't already know from pics/spoilers, so i'm not entirely sure you did see it.

either way, um... whatever.

Soo.....would I really go THAT far to make you think I have seen it when I really didn't? If I haven't seen the movie, It would've been one of those 2 line reviews. Saying something along the lines of "It was the biznatch! W00t to the 10 dregee yo!" Also, I don't want to reveal everything, for fear of spoiling plot points for people who want to see the film not spoiled beforehand. I would only do that if someone asked. I tell you the movies awesome, but you say I'm a liar? What would've happen if I told you it sucked? "Oh, man It sucked? Better not see it now." Quit jumping to conclusions.

Okay, Frist off I would like to say Thanks for the sumary. I apriciate the news. And Thank you for going into detal for all the fighting patrs of the movie. Now I hope the game is just as good. From what I heard, it's a mixture of games like Splinter Cell, Prince Of Persia, and Devil May Cry, as far as the fighting. Anyway, Thank again.

for those of us who want spoilers can you give some details like dialogue or a breakdown of a fight scene?

Here's a breakdown of a fight scene at a construction yard:

The fight takes place after Leo has joined the team. Splinter assigns him to start training the turtles as a team again. Right when they;re about to start, there's a scuffle going on a a construction site. When they get there, they spot a army of foot soldiers getting their butts kicked by a huge monster. Mikey doesn't want to help because he starts to enjoy seeing the foot getting whupped, but Raph jumps in and joins the fight. Soon, everyone else does and Leo gets into a fight with Karai. He tells her that they're here to help, but then she retreats along with the foot soldiers, leaving he turtles to deal with the huge monster. The team whips out their weapons and begin fighting the monster, but nothing it really working, as they're also getting their butts kicked. All the turtles (Sans Raph) jumps on the monster, causing the floor to break. Raph jumps down the side of the building to follow them, as they're all breaking through each consctive floor below (a REALLY cool shot by the way). Raph makes in down first, and soon after, the turtles and the monster. They fight it for a couple more seconds, and realize they can't win. Mikey and Don have their moment ("Got any moves left?" "How about this one? AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!") and rubble falls on the turtles, knockingthem out for a brief time. The monster then gets attacked by 4 stone soldiers, and then taken away. The turtles spot the monster getting dragged away, but have to leave because the cops are coming. They make it to the manhole, and bfore the cops arrive, Mikey says "Oh yeah! We're back!" and drops down the manhole. END OF SCENE

How's that?

sweet thanks, quick question
what were their reaction to seeing the foot like?

Personally the fight I want to know about it the fight between the brothers, but I really don't want that spoiled. I have a feeling that will be a rather impactful fight.

Quick question, how did the monsters get there..can you expound that for me please?

Upon seeing the foot soldiers, the turtles are like "Foot Soldiers!? I thought we took care of them already!" Or something to that effect, I don't remember exact lines of dialouge, but it was in that context.

For the reason why the monster was there:

There never showed a sequence of the monsters coming out of a portal or anything. The narrator at the beginning says that when the stars align, there will be an army of monsters. Later, Max Winters informs Karai that there's something they have to retrieve for him, not telling her that the thing she has to look for are monsters, and that's when they're introduced.

As for the fight scene:

I don't really want to spoil that particular fight much, main because of it's significance. But it first starts off with Raph (disgused as the Nigh****cher) fightin Leo, then Raph gets his helmet kocked off, and after a conversation, they fight again, this time with weapons.

I didn't read the full review for fear of spoilers, but I did see the "10/10".

That's good to hear! Positive word of mouth will only aid this movie.

This looks pretty good

LOL @ "Nigh****cher" :D:D:D

What does April do at her new company, and is there an explanation as to why she left Channel 6?

No explination why she leaves channel 6, but her company goes to places to find ancient artifacts and deliver them to their clients.

How does the implied nun-chuck fighting work in the movie?

When it came to Mikey, he used kicks. punches and jumps. When he resorted to the nunchucks, he swung them at the bad guys, yet we never see the impact. We see the bad guy after he's been hit, but not the actual impact.

fighting wise how well do the characters move? I know Munroe said that each turtle has their own approach to fighting that kind of reflects their personalities--did that come across as apparent when you watched?

Well, it's hard to tell in terms of fighting styles, but there were some slight differences. Leo is the smoothest in terms of how he fights. Raph is more aggressive, trying to beat they crap out of everything. Donetello has sort of a balletic movement to him, while Mikey seems to be the most sloppy of the group, however, his skateboarding moves contrbute to his fighting.

I'm sure you really saw it. No one would go out of their way to make a review about TMNT to post on a board that is 2/3 dead. This isn't Spider-Man.

Anyway, cool review. I'll see the movie.

And yet its a known fact among TMNT fans that Mikey's got the potential to be the greatest fighter of the four. :csad:

I don't think he means 'sloppy' sloppy, I think he means sloppy as in non traditional and wild. I may be wrong though

Actually, I do mean that. It was a very non traditional fighting style. I never meant sloppy in a bad way, just the way he fought was rather unconventional.

PLANT!

whenever i read reviews i smell bullsh t.
then not to far away theres another person rubbing one off to how good the game is comparing it to popular releases...right.
