A new site is dedicated to crowdsourcing funds to send Razzie-winning filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan back to film school.

M. Night School says: "If we all donate just one dollar, we can send M. Night back to NYU so he gets the help we all so desperately need. Let's make it happen so we can get him enrolled before he starts principal photography on 1000 A.E."

The site says if they raise the funds but Shyamalan refuses their check then they'll start a scholarship in his name instead and "send the NEXT Tarantino to NYU."

One of the site's founders, Chris Baker, told Entertainment Weekly that he suspects Shyamalan will "probably be a little hurt" when he learns of the site, but he isn't that concerned. "His movies do make money, for better or for worse, which is kind of the irony of the whole thing," said Baker.

I think he got alzheimer's after 'Unbreakable' and the full effects are just now becoming known. :o

Let's look at the past five movies he's made. 'Signs', 'The Village', 'Lady in the Water', 'The Happening' and 'The Last Airbender'. Each one has somehow sucked harder than the last. I don't know how it's possible, but M. Night found a way. Now he's making some film that will star Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith and the budget will probably eclipse the GDP of some third-world countries (okay, slight exaggeration, but you get my point). It's amazing that studios are still giving him money and big-name stars are still signing up for his latest vanity projects when his last few movies have sucked so hard. I don't know why he hasn't disappeared like other one-hit wonder directors such as Richard Kelly. Maybe he's a scientologist.

Signs was quite interesting and good.

I get what they're trying to do, but M. Night Shyamalan is rich. If we're gonna coax him into going back to film school, let's find a way to do it that involves him spending his own money.

Signs was quite interesting and good.

It was meh enough, until we found out that the aliens' secret weakness was ...... water.

Oops sorry. Spoiler alert. :awesome:

Although I hated the twist from the moment I saw it in the theaters, Cracked put it more eloquently than I can:

"Aliens have conquered interplanetary space travel, invaded and terrorized people across the globe, and yet, somehow, they're incapable of figuring out that Earth is comprised almost entirely of water. Kind of like humans deciding to land naked on the sun."

Yeah, but his new twists have gotten worse, until the point where the twists of his movies are that they're bad

Signs was pretty good in my opinion, however after that movie everything went downhill.

I had to get up and walk away from The Village when he spent the first 30 minutes of the movie speaking of "those that shall not be spoken of"

It was so ridiculous.

I haven't watched an M. Night movie since.

You thought that was ridiculous?

Shyamalan doesn't seem to think so. I can't see anything changing until his films start to bomb.

I wish M. Night Shyamalan would go away already. I liked his work pre-Signs, but post-Signs his films and their so-called twists have just become lazy and ridiculous.

I actually liked The Village. The first time it was a disappointment but it's grown on me since then. Lady in the Water was awful , that's when it all came crashing down for me.

I think I'm the only one who loves Signs :o
Like, a lot.
The family dynamic, the small town, the really paranoid feel throughout the whole movie is brilliant. And it's probably Mel Gibson's last great performance.
The twist was a bit weak, yeah, but that wasn't the point of the movie. I wouldn't really even call it a twist; I think after Sixth Sense people just expected every Shyamalan movie to have that moment.

As for the rest of his movies, I watched about half of the village and then got frustratingly bored and shut it off, didn't see Lady in the Water and The Happening was so over the top and bad that it was actually hilarious. I spent way too long laughing at the part when the old lady accused Mark Whalberg's character of plotting to kill her and he responds with a "Whaaaaaaat? Noooo!"

The hate on Signs is so over the top it makes me like it more. The whole "It's stupid that the aliens weakness was water." debate is ridiculous. Like as if it's the only movie in history to have some ridiculous plot point.

There was a lot of good tension in Signs. I really like that scene where they show news footage of the alien. I can't remember the War of the Worlds twist but it might of been worse.

It's still horrible regardless...that's all that really maters.

I can't count the remake even though it basically had the same ending, but War Of The Worlds' ending was not only a better idea, but more poetic as well.

Thats another one. I love War of the Worlds to the point where admittedly 30 seconds of a stupid plot twist are not going to change that.

1. Robbie surviving. Yeah it was dumb but it's literally the last 30 seconds of movie. I'm not going to let that ruin it.

2. Mother nature wins. It seemed lazy and rushed if anything but again, not enough to ruin the movie.

But again, it's exaggerated. It's not enough to ruin the whole movie unless you're extremely fickle. I just hate the notion of "OMG! That ruined the whole movie for me!" It's not even that important plot wise. The movie isn't about what the aliens weakness is, it's about how things just exist and happen for certain reasons.

Yes.
Thank you.
Quoting for truth.

That's sensible. I'd have to have more problems with a film than just the ending to call it terrible.

I'll be honest... I've loved every Shyamalan movie from Sixth Sense through Lady In the Water. I've not seen the Happening (I will eventually so try not to ruin it for me... I've gone this long dodging spoilers until I can get around to seeing it). The Last Airbender was lackluster but his first one in my opinion... and it was based on someone else's work which was too big for one film in my opinion. Didn't he do that Devil movie as well? Haven't seen that one either.

But I thought Signs was phenomial. The home video shot revealing the alien, the alien trapped in the pantry, everything coming together in the end... I thought it was all good. The Village was disappointing as far as the twist goes but once you get past the first showing I thought it was a very entertaining movie and Brody was fantastic. Lady in the Water was always ment to be a children's story and if viewed like that it was great. I loved it.

I hope he keeps making movies for decades to come.

Signs was quite interesting and good.

Was it really? I admit it has some decent scary scenes, but the plot was hilariously bad (H2O). I'd say it's not terrible, but only because of the few well done creepy alien scenes. Now, the score, was good.

Shyamalan had one good movie, a few tolerable ones, and some very bad ones. The Happening was so bad people were cracking up in the theater. Run from the wind, people! And then... well, what can you say about the Last Airbender that won't end up looking like ****** ***** **** on this forum.

i've never been satisfied enough by any shyamalan film. i think he's a great director who can get great performances out of his actors....but his writing is awful and kills his films.
