hey guys, this is just for a discussion about remakes and so many movies getting sequels these days. i go to a design school and just recently we had a animator/concept artist that has worked for lucas film and disney/pixar come in and talk with us. i asked him how the economy is affecting his job and although he really didnt answer that specific quesiton, he did bring something else up.
he mentioned that hollywood is scared right now. they are looking for any way possible to get people in the theaters. he said that a lot of studios are putting out sequels (pixar is putting out cars 2, monsters inc. 2) and movies with familiar characters (disney is working on a 2-d winnie the pooh movie) so that people will go to the theaters. he said they feel if people are already familiar with the characters on screen, they will spend the money to go see a movie. rather than going to the theater to see something new and risk being disappointed.
is this why we are seeing freddy, jason, tron, alice in wonderland....etc? because we are familiar with the characters?
what is your take on this?
