What are some sequels you can think of to original movies in a series you hated or didn't enjoy, but you ended up liking the sequel? I can think of a couple of instances at the moment:

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen - I absolutely hated the original movie, found it to be boring, insulting and just plain annoying. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed ROTF. It wasn't great and I'd be hard-pressed to even call it good, but I found it to be an entertaining timewaster and it kept me entertained throughout. Hopefully the third will be much better and a great movie.

Spider-Man 2 - I found the first movie boring and poorly-made, but the sequel was an improvement in every way and enjoyable to watch. Deserving of it's praises for sure. I remember digging Spider-Man 3 as well, but I have to give it a rewatch one day, as I haven't seen it since it's theatrical run.

If I can remember more I'll post them, this is all I recall for now.

The Bourne Supremacy- Didn't like The Bourne Identity too much, but liked the 2nd and 3rd.

Goldeneye, never liked any of the other Bond movies.

Exterminator 2 was great, but I didn't like The Exterminator that much.

Forgot all about Exterminator 2, that movie is a big guilty pleasure of mine. I didn't care for the original myself, but the second was a fun romp.

My most recent one was transformers 2, hated the original enjoyed the 2nd.

Chronicles of riddick, thought pitch black was a piece of crap but was entertained by chronicles.

X2, didnt like the first one so much eventhough I own it.

There's more but I cant think of them right now.

Does "The Incredible Hulk" count?

Oh, And X-men Origins Wolverine, in contrast to X3

I'm surprised it took me this long to remember this.

The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. A New Hope, while setting up the whole Star Wars premise, is almost entirely boring with the notable exception of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban onwards. They are the gold standard adaptations of children's novels.

However, the first two films are terrible, completely lacking in quality across the board compared to the third film and after.

I died a little inside. :csad:

What? The characters didn't become three-dimensional people until after A New Hope. I'm all for archetypes, but they need a bit more flesh to them.

All the Fast/Furious sequels where entertaining, but I didn't like the original too much.

I wouldn't say I don't like Predator, but I prefer Predator 2 leaps and bounds over the first one.

I love Predator 2 more than the original as well. The original is a classic but the sequel to me took everything that was awesome about the first and amped it up. It's my favorite of the Alien/Predator series.

Jurassic Park III had no point to existing. We already knew that the islands were converted into a modern prehistoric wildlife sanctuary in The Lost World. Why did there need to be a B movie with a rescue? Hasn't that been done twice now? And now there's talk of a fourth.

Typically, for me and most normal people, if the first movie sucks, chances are the sequel will too.

The only one I can think of is Empire Strikes Back. I was never that much into New Hope, I think its the only SW movie thats very dated and oozes with 70s and is outside the actual story arc of Sith/Jedi, focusing more or simply typical 70s space battles with rebellion and evil empire, ala Buck Rogers. Empire on the other hand is a terrific classic that I always adored

A New Hope is dated? The Death Star assault is like the best action sequence of all-time. The only part that looks remotely dated is the stuff on Tattooine.

I agree, it is terrific. But overall, the way its shot, the sound mix, the sound effects, the sideburns on officers and 70s haircuts and outfits. Its just all 70s.
