Seth MacFarlane to revive "Cosmos", "Flintstones"

My brother made me watch Cosmos last year on netflix. I actually enjoyed it. So I look forward to this one!

I figure I will bump this because I'm so excited. But this Sunday the new Cosmos series starts with good old Neil deGrasse Tyson hosting. Sagan is still one of my personal heroes, and I grew up watching Cosmos, it's what got me fascinated with astronomy in the first place.

But figure I should bump this thread.

Anybody check this out? I thought it was actually pretty good, the visuals and animation were top notch.

It would be great if this series could get more people talking about science in the mainstream.

Just finished watching it, really liked it

Really enjoyed the new Cosmos. Really interesting stuff presented in a really exciting way.

Unfortunately, I can already see if being cancelled. I just don't see the average tv viewer nowadays caring about science and the unknown anymore. I think those days are long gone for our culture. :csad:

It's only a 13 episode event. And it's already locked in. It's not being "canceled."

It's apparently already made a huge splash on social media. I'm not sure what the ratings will be yet? but a lot of people are talking about it.

Besides it's not like Fox is missing out showing reruns of american dad in its place?

I have to catch this later cuz I work.

Oh and a little show called MYTHBUSTERS says "Hi" to the idea that people don't watch science shows. Morgan Freeman also says "HELLLO" since THROUGHT WORMHOLE is still on. Also everyone that works at THE DISCOVERY channel, the makers of the BBC's EARTH... Well, I've made my point. I also don't think this is meant to be an open ended series per se. If they come back for another season, great. If not, well NDT will have his regular appearances on PBS, COLBERT/THE DAILY SHOW, his books ect. to help him educate the general public about science.

I totally agree (love those shows, btw), but I guess I should have been more clear. Being on FOX, I had a hard time seeing it sticking around. Those other shows are on channels dedicated to that sort of programming. I didn't know this was only a mini-series, but that aside, I couldn't imagine a really interesting show like Cosmos would last on this network or with it's typical viewers.

Honestly, though, I'm going to be very happy if it did well in the ratings. :yay:

Cosmos is a 13 part documentary miniseries. It isn't meant to go beyond one season. They did 13 episodes and that's all they intended to do. So don't worry about ratings. Just enjoy the ride.

Yea no worry about it being cancelled. And I dunno about most people not being into science. Maybe it's just because of the pages and groups I followed when I was still on Facebook but judging by that a ton of people are still interested in science and astronomy. Ever seen how many likes the page "I F***ing Love Science" has? There's tons of those types of pages too. People still like science, being nerdy is what's "in" nowadays. Least from I can tell

Watched Cosmos last night and loved it. Looking forward to future episodes.

So its ratings actually weren't that great but I think Fox is playing the long game with this. They'll make a good chunk of money off this thing from international sales rights as well as home video.

I think it airing simultaneously on 10 channels probably diluted some of its ratngs impact as well, which Fox probably expected somewhat.

I loved it. visually this show was off the charts.

forget the discovery channel. apart from Mythbusters it's gearing more towards scripted nonsense with shows like Amish Mafia, Street Outlaws & Devil's Ride & reality shows. not those type of reality shows but ones like Deadliest Catch and Gold Rush. the Science Channel is where it's at.

Bingo.
