How dare they! Only Summer tent pole action flicks geared at a predominately male audience are allowed to exist!!!!

I don't get why dudes aren't understanding this is basically a summer blockbuster for fans of the show. This is their Indiana Jones, their Iron Man.

I agree. Some girls are very much into the show and see the woman as big time idols. I've been looking forward to the movie, but not to the extent where I have to see it opening night (or even opening weekend), whereas for IM and Indy I was at midnight showings, and I've already booked July 18th off work.

Not my kind of movie and all the times I've been forced to watch the show I never found the lead women very likable and extremely materialistic and shallow.

With that said I understand why this movie exists and respect its audience's (women) right to flock to it. Anyone who doesn't think it is going to be a huge hit or should exist needs to look long and hard at the term "counterprogramming" and understand not everyone wants to go to movies where something blows up.

This maybe one of the few times you'll see a whole bunch of women dressed up in their hottest outfits just to go see a movie without alot of guys there.

I like the whole "I wouldn't go even if my gf/wife try and forced me.' some of the posters here are trying to puff their chest out about.

You would, you'd even get dressed up yourself. :o

You'd even go if it was a girl you just liked and she wanted to see it. LOL

And I like all of them, so it's a great summer for me.

I've worked in Manhattan for 12 years now and I know the show is an utter fantasy, but I think it's extremely well-written, funny as hell, and I loved the characters. It's great to see them again. I can take a break from the superheroes for one night.

When I was queing up to get my tickets for Indiana Jones yesterday, I was stunned to see several showings of this movie had been sold out.

The power of chick flicks is strong!

And who says we want any of you to see this movie? I've been reading posts from guys already whining like preschoolers that this movie exists, do you really think we want to listen to it in a movie theater? Stay home! :oldrazz:

For the record, I loved Iron Man and Indiana Jones, I can't wait for Dark Knight...but I'm excited as hell for Sex and the City too. I'm also seeing it with my mom this weekend. We can't wait.

I'd never say chick flicks like this shouldn't exist, however, my main problem with chick flicks is most of them are the Fantastic Four or Ghost Rider of the genre, just plain horrible. I don't see the appeal for this movie in particular because it doesn't mean to be on the big screen, it's not an action show, so it won't benefit from better effects that a big screen budget will allow, also it was on HBO so it won't push the materials into areas it couldn't go on TV. I just think it's a movie that didn't need to be made, or if it was made, why not make it for HBO. Just seems like a huge, easy, greedy cash grab for everyone behind the movie.

this movie can exist, just don't expect me to have anything nice to say about it.

A couple of things... Did you ever just think for a moment that perhaps your opinion is not the almighty barometer for what is good and what is bad? That just perhaps the reason you think there all bad is because these movies aren't made for you or are your cup of tea.

Secondly, it has nothing to do with whether it has action or not. A movie provides a completely different type of atmophere as well as opportunies for a a story. Secondly money doesn't just mean "MORE EFFECTS" it means where they can go, how many outfits they can buy, the talent they can cast, etc... Also a tv-movie has a completely different vibe than a theatrical movie.

Lastly everything is made for money this is no different

I hate to give you a wake up call but there are some women, like yours truly, who despise the superficiality of this whole Sex and the City pablum. Needless to say I will be avoiding this reality deprived black hole like the plague.

Does anyone actually think Sex and the City is supposed to be reality? I don't know anyone in NY who lives like that.

Well I list everything as my problems with chick flicks/romantic comedies, didn't say I speak for anyone else. I find most romantic comedy/click flicks to be very generic/cookie cutter and largely containing the same plot points, like the less than great comic book movies like Fantastic Four or Ghost Rider. There are many movies that aren't "made for me" but I still enjoy, I just don't like lazy movies.

As for Sex and the City, I just don't understand why it's coming to the big screen, the show was on a channel that provides the most freedom ever. What talent do they have in the movie that they couldn't get on the TV show? I'd be willing to bet many designers donated the outfits because they know a few of the fans of the TV show used Sex and the City as a guide for how to dress, so it's the best avenue for product placement ever. As for the look, does this movie really look that much different from an episode of the show?

Yeah, everything is made for money, but when something stinks of a huge cash grab it seems to stick out more. You've got a hit show on a station that allows great freedom, 2 years after it's end you're releasing a summer movie, just feels like a way to get people talking again and an easy payday.

Again, if people like it that's great, more power to you, I just don't see why the show needs a major motion picture. However, it's not for me, I've never seen the show, have no desire to watch it or the movie.

I know, I don't get why people can be immediately dissmisive of the show because of what they deem the superficilaity or impossibility of the premise. SATC requires the same suspension of disbelief that one needs when watching a movie about a billionaire who dresses up as a crime fighting bat or an archaelogist who fights Nazis and Commies. If SATC is not your cup of tea then fine, but it is still at heart a fictional fantastical story.

It was based on a novel about four socialites in Manhattan. I'm sure females like that exist but it ain't a lot of them. This show was basically a chance to see what that world is like. Entourage is basically the male equivalent, and Sopranos was like the other end of the spectrum for guys. If these two ever came to the big screen I doubt anyone would gripe.

I'd find Entourage on the big screen completely unnecessary, unless it was one of "Vincent Chase's" movies.

As for the Sopranos, again unnecessary, unless they decided to make it more of a Scorese type mob movie, instead of a family drama about the mob.

The misogyny displayed by some people is sad. Apparently guys can love all the brainless, testosterone-driven drivel they want, and those movies are of course awesome, but any female equivalent is automatically the worst movie ever made and any guy who wants to see this movie is a *****.

There are amazing ones out there. Just seek it out, and don't be closed minded about future openings. Hell, many of the romantic comedies/chick flicks are no more generic than plenty of action films that come out in a given year.

As for Sex and the City, I just don't understand why it's coming to the big screen, the show was on a channel that provides the most freedom ever.

Why do comic book superheroes come to the big screen? In the comics, they are provided "the most freedom ever." Hell, characters can die and come back to life. If they want to bring it to the big screen, they can absolutely do so.

What talent do they have in the movie that they couldn't get on the TV show? I'd be willing to bet many designers donated the outfits because they know a few of the fans of the TV show used Sex and the City as a guide for how to dress, so it's the best avenue for product placement ever.

Hell, Bond films do that.

Generalization. Watch the actual movie, then watch some episodes (or vice-versa), then decide that for yourself before you throw that out as a comment.

Yeah, everything is made for money, but when something stinks of a huge cash grab it seems to stick out more. You've got a hit show on a station that allows great freedom, 2 years after it's end you're releasing a summer movie, just feels like a way to get people talking again and an easy payday.

Maybe they ended the show, then decided later on to make the ultimate chapter into a movie. And what exactly is the definition of a "huge cash grab." I've seen many poster say that, and it makes absolutely no sense other than being a comment used on something that they dislike. All superhero films are made as "huge cash grabs" if you use that logic.

Again, if people like it that's great, more power to you, I just don't see why the show needs a major motion picture. However, it's not for me, I've never seen the show, have no desire to watch it or the movie.

Then it shouldn't be a problem for you (or me), then. I haven't seen the show, and have no desire to watch the movie, but I am not questioning why the show is getting a major motion picture no more than I'd question why Iron Man or Hulk are getting major motion pictures.

Hey, what can I say? We're men, we're b*****d's.:hehe:

If you enjoyed Iron Man, Spider-Man, or any other super-hero movie(there are exceptions) then you've missed my point because all of them are cookie-cutter especially Iron Man.

Again missed my point, a movie allows for a different type of story telling no matter how much freedom you get on a show.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this point I feel your wrongly attacking Sex and the City though. And I'm not even a fan, I'm just open-minded enough not to bash it or even really care :)

Id go with a girl if it meant i was getting laid after the movie

For the people who voted "1," did y'all even see the movie? I wonder that for anybody that votes a "1" on any poll.

:o

ok so I saw the movie and I thought it was good. While I am a fan of the show, im not a huge fan like half of the people who were there. They did a good job of introducing the charecters to the audience so you wouldnt really have to watch the show to get them. While there wasnt that much surprise for me at how some of the scenes would play out, some people were in awe and ofcourse cried at certain points. But they did a good job at making us laugh.

I would give the movie an 8/10. Espically since I saw it for free.

And I have been hearing about a possible sequel if this is big enough though I wouldnt really see what more they could do except knock up Carrie. All the charecters pretty much came full circle.
