That argument does actually make some pretty sound points. Keeping in mind I'm one of the skeptics.

I do really like the "she can't be hotter than Gwen because Gwen is the true love" point. MJ is essentially the plan b. But if thats the case, will they be trying to extenuate her looks in a future installment?

I don't love the "ultimate MJ" point because Gwen is the smart one in ASM1. MJ was the brainy one in USM. I don't need both girls in Peter's life to be overtly intellectual types. People of average intelligence need lovin too! Not to say they shouldn't both be fairly smart.

I'm glad it's not Megan Fox. I'm glad its not Kirsten Dunst. I still can't wait to see ASM2. But I think that's the best I can say about SW at this point, until I see her on screen.

One thing I wholeheartedly hope. More important to me than how MJ looks. Is that she doesn't fall in love with a dozen different people before she gets a shot at Peter. That was always a head shaker in Raimi's trilogy.

well, they obviously know something about shailene that you don't, don't they? she was cast for a reason, and i'm sure the casting directors, marc and everyone else who could've possibly have an input on who gets cast know more about their jobs and how someone fits into this universe's version of mj than anyone else does.

They are lucky that this poor decision won't prevent us from caring or showing up. We'll still go see this in the theaters, but probably only once. Part of it is that we still care about the other characters because they did a good job casting those. Peter and Gwen are great, so we still care. Jamie as Electro will be interesting, so we care.

But if Gwen gets off'd in this movie and the 3rd is all about Peter and MJ, and it's still Woodley, I think they may have a problem...

honestly, sony KNOWS what they're doing (at least as far as casting goes), they wouldn't have cast her if they didn't see potential in her, she is going to be super big next year with the release of divergent and the fault in our stars and she's getting all sorts of award buzz for her independent films, by choosing her they're catering to the general public, who will know her as a big celebrity and the critics, who all adore her for her talent.

the comic book movie world does not revolve around fanboys, because most fanboys are insane and will complain about everything, and at the end of the day, the studio releases the movie it wants to release, whether the comics fans like what they've done with it or not.
