Now that we have official word on it from Marc Webb himself, I guess it's ok to start a whole new thread, dedicated to Shailene only!

I think she's gonna make a perfect MJ! Can't wait for a first pic of her with red hair! Even though she will reportedly have a small role in the second installment.

It looks like brown dyed cherry.

I was hoping for a dark carrot sort of shade, more natural.

I don't know but after seeing that set video, it doesn't seem to me that MJ will have the the party animal persona. She seems way too much of a sweetheart, perhaps she's more like Ultimate MJ. Didn't they call her "brainy Jane" or something lol.

I would certainly prefer this. Ultimate MJ was awesome.

I assume she'll be something like she probably is in real life. Young indie girl who looks like she's still in high school, in all the drama clubs and classes.

She'll be smart, but not Gwen/Peter smart. Independent cuz her homelife sucks? Not "party girl" but less good girl than Gwen is. Just grew up too fast and gets along with people from all crowds? I'd be happy with that.

I concur. I absolutely love her. I was never a huge fan of the glamorous knockout supermodel MJ. I know it was a facade to keep her emotions from getting hurt but I never liked that portrayal in the original comics much. Even though it was part of her eventual character-development. I can understand why Raimi didn't choose to showcase her that way, I prefer Webb doesn't either. And I'm probably gonna get a lot of crap for this...
