In one of MTV‘s most ambitious moves on the scripted side since Susanne Daniels became president, the network has given a script-to-series commitment to Shannara, a drama series based on Terry Brooks’ popular fantasy books. The project, from Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films, has Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau on board to direct and will be written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. The trio will executive produce with Brooks and Dan Farah (The Crow remake). If MTV likes the script, it is expected to give the project a straight-to-series order. favreauShannara reunites Gough and Millar with Daniels, who developed and put Smallville on the air while she was entertainment president at the WB. “I am thrilled to be working with the Smallville creators Al and Miles again along with the amazingly talented Jon Favreau,” Daniels said. “We feel that the Shannara novels are a perfect fit for MTV as this type of fantasy genre has continuously proved to resonate with our audience.” Shannara is set in our world, thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story is centered on the Shannara millargoughfamily, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. The first season of the potential series will be based on The Elfstones Of Shannara, the second title in the series — a fan favorite accredited with cementing the series place in the fantasy world. The book series features plenty of young-adult adventure and romance to suite MTV’s target demographic. Shannara also would be compatible with MTV’s only successful drama series so far, Teen Wolf, which also has supernatural elements.

Love Shannara world, but not so sure about MTV.

They're the ones footing the bill, so unless someone else wants to....

First time hearing about this franchise, sounds very interesting. Teen Wolf is a pretty awesome show, MTV can pull this off.

Wow, I hope something good happens with this. I remember this series as a teen and the later novels as an adult.

The new Teen Wolf is very well done so I hope this is of the same quality.

Now if only AMC or Starz would develop the Thomas Covenant series.

I'm very conflicted. On one hand we are finally get a Shannara series. On the other hand it is on MTV...

I remember when I thought it would be a great idea to have a Sword of Truth TV series...That went well.. not so much.

No high hopes here for this.

Wow, Bennett is not how I pictured Allanon at all.

Spanish actress Ivana Baquero has landed the last pivotal role in MTV’s upcoming fantasy drama Shannara, TVLine has learned.

Based on the book series by Terry Brooks, Shannara takes place in a post-apocalyptic world known as the Four Lands. Baquero, who starred in Pan’s Labyrinth, will play Eretria, a lovely young thief who finds herself tagging along on a journey to save that world.

Shannara also stars Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries) as Wil Ohmsford, a half-elf/half-human who discovers he’s the last member of the Shannara family; Poppy Drayton (Downton Abbey) as Amberle, an elf princess who becomes a member of the Chosen, a group dedicated to protecting the mighty Ellcrys tree; Aaron Jakubenko (Spartacus: War of the Damned) as Ander, Amberle’s uncle who helps her train to become a Chosen; and Manu Bennett (Arrow) as Allanon, a wise druid who sends Wil on a sizable journey.

Not exactly your typical MTV show…

Can't beleve that is the little girl from Pans Labyrinth, she has grown up to be stunning!

Is this the same Shannara Chronicles as the one on Netflix?

Yes, it is.
There is also another thread about it with more posts if you want more opinion.
Terry Brooks Shannara Coming To TV

PS : the show has been canceled.
Thanks for that

That's a shame but I did see that it had already been cancelled. I wish stuff like this, Warcraft and The Dark Tower had seen (and deserved) more success.

No pb. If you are not picky it's an ok show even for only 2 seasons.

I need my fantasy fix and I’ll always watch anything based on fantasy works to support the author and hope for the best. Sure I can survive 2 seasons anyway. ;)

If you watch it you will support Netflix more than the author I think but that is another matter.
Anyways, the girls are pretty, the boys are pretty, Mannu Bennet is Mannu Bennet :) and the sets are good. Edit : the story/mythology isn't bad either.

I should read the books but I will probably not. It's fantasy yes but it's post apocalyptic fantasy, there are also bits of science.

There's actually no science in the first several books. It comes across as typical Lord of the Rings style fantasy (The first book Sword of Shannara is literally a carbon copy of Lord of the Rings). It's not revealed until many, many books later that the stories take place in our future.

The main lead Wil I find to be boring but I like the other characters. Am already into season 2. Bennett has been great from the beginning! The sets have been awesome too, yes.
