ABC’s Shawn Ryan Drama On Verge Of Pilot Order, Martin Campbell Set To Direct
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Last Resort, the large-scope drama from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan and feature writer Karl Gajdusek, is staffing up while waiting a formal pilot green light from ABC. The Sony TV-produced project, which already has a hefty pilot production commitment, has tapped Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell to direct the pilot and has also hired a line producer and a casting director. Last Resort is a thriller set in the near future when the country is very fractured and revolves around the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who become hunted after ignoring an order to shoot nuclear missiles. They escape to a NATO listening outpost where they publicly declare themselves to be the world’s smallest nuclear nation with 24 nuclear warheads. The show explores the society the fugitives create, the natives they meet and how what they’ve done affects the group and its unity. When Last Resort‘s pickup becomes official, it will join the just greenlighted Roland Emmerich one-hour, a metaphysical drama set against the backdrop of the 2012 Presidential race. Early in the pilot pickup process, ABC seems to be going for big-swing dramas helmed by feature directors. Campbell most recently directed The Green Lantern.
This may just be another instance of me getting ahead of myself during pilot season (RIP 17th Precinct :csad:), but it's a ****ing futuristic nuclear war series involving the man who has directed not one, but two of the very best James Bond films over the past twenty years, and the man behind The Shield. One would be nuts not to get excited about this.

I don't think so. I think broadcast television needs to celebrate strong ideas and creativity. If everything good goes cable, all that will be left on network television is reality TV and Chuck Lorre sitcoms. And there are too many of those as it is. :o

This sounds like it could be cool.

Interesting concept, definitely a change of pace for Ryan.

This sounds really awesome so the chances of it being cancelled are pretty high. :o

Deadline:
Andre Braugher To Star In Shawn Ryan’s ABC Drama Pilot ‘Last Resort’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Andre Braugher is set to lead the ensamle cast of ABC’s drama pilot Last Resort, executive produced by Shawn Ryan and written-executive produced by Karl Gajdusek. The Sony TV-produced project centers on the crew of the U.S.S. Nevada, a nuclear submarine, who, after disobeying a suspicious order, become fugitives. They land on the island of Sainte Marina, where they take over the NATO Listening Station and declare themselves an independent nuclear nation. Braugher will play Capt. Marcus Chaplin, the commander of the U.S.S. Nevada, a veteran of real combat, a leader by nature and a patriot, but will not follow any man blindly. Braugher, repped by WME and Principato-Young, won Emmys for his lead roles on Homicide and Thief. He most recently starred on the TNT dramedy Men Of A Certain Age, which earned him 2 Emmy nominations. This marks the second military-themed ensemble drama from Ryan to cast an well-known Black actor as the lead, following the CBS series The Unit, which starred Dennis Haysbert.
Great news. Admittedly, I'm not as pumped about this as I was when I found out Kevin Bacon was starring in Williamson's pilot, but this is still exciting.

Scoop: Felicity Grad Scott Speedman Joins Shawn Ryan's ABC Drama Pilot Last Resort

Scott Speedman has been lured back to the small screen.

The Felicity alum — who has turned down many a pilot offer in recent years — has joined Andre Braugher in Last Resort, an ABC drama pilot being exec-produced by Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit) and penned by Ryan and Karl Gajdusek (Dead Like Me).

Set in the not-so-distant future, Last Resort follows the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine who become fugitives after refusing to fire their missiles. Ultimately, they make camp on an island that hosts a NATO listening station and declare themselves an independent nuclear nation.

Speedman would play Sam, the “beating heart of the boat” who knows every sailor and officer by name. Second-in-command to Braugher’s captain, he feels conflicted about leaving his wife behind on the mainland.

The cast also includes Autumn Reeser (No Ordinary Family) and Daisy Betts (Persons Unknown).
It's been awhile since Speedman's done anything notable. It'll be good to see him again.

This show definitely has the hotness factor going for them with Reeser and Betts. :awesome:

Andre Braugher stars as the captain and Scott Speedman is set to play his second in command. Autumn Reeser (No Ordinary Family) and Daisy Betts (Persons Unknown) round out the impressive ensemble.

Adler, who has recurred on Glee since Season 1, will appear as a guest star in the pilot — and may or may not stay on if it gets picked up to series.

Last Resort has also added Academy Award and Emmy nominee Bruce Davison, whose recent TV gigs include Covert Affairs and Hawaii Five-0, in what would be a recurring role. Details on either Adler’s or Davison’s characters were not immediately available.
