Sonic was the 16 bit king.
Nonesense.
Just look at all the 2d fighters that tried to steal sf2's limelight, mortal kombat, anything by snk heck even some stuff capcom released.
No one immitated sonic cos frankly in the harsh light of day it wasn't that good compared to something like super mario world.
The sales for streetfighter 2 (inc variants) outsols sonic in the 16 bit home console era (and not even considering coin op revenue either). PLUS it was also multi format (can something really define an era on the weaker of the formats?)
To recap then sonic not as influential (by virtue of imitations) and not as popular (by virtue of sales)
Streetfighter also popularised a specific genre, sonic was just a poor mans mario.
The 32 bit king was Final Fantasy 7. 64 bit king was Mario 64 or Zelda OoT.
These are the same era due to the way the consoles were positioned and I might actually agree on some level here, can't forget about goldeneye either though.
I'm not certain on this era truth told.
This game era was Halo, easy.
Again no and saying 'easily' doesn't constitue an argument either.
It's the same reason streetfighter beats out sonic many many games tried to be GTA in the past generation and it's sales far outstrip anything halo achieved. Again GTA was also multi format. Again GTA was significantly more innovative than halo also.
Remember I am not discussing QUALITY, only what were the most influential games.
