Hype Survivor SHH! Survivor 28: I'm a Marvel, and I'm a DC - Issue #5: Catfight!

I'll probably be up another hour. If we get council results tonight, thread will be put up possibly tomorrow!!!

Disappointing.

I've also never heard of Keyboard Cat and of the 7 or 8 that I've watched I didn't find any of them funny. Honestly, I didn't get it at all. I didn't even know it was supposed to be after something bad happened. It was always just some stupid video with a cat suddenly breaking in.

And I agree with Matt about Mortal Kombat. Yes, it was a comic book, but it's far from being a superhero franchise of any kind. Badd officiating on Chase's part, and vague rules limited the challenge. Heck, for those of us unfamiliar with the cat, a simple explanation of what it is (the funny leading into the cat) in the opening challenge PM would have been best so that everyone knew what was expected of them.

Sad to see such an awesome challenge last "issue" followed up by something like this. Badly put together.
Kind of like when we say for those of you who don't know who keyboard cat is...here are two examples. Did any of you even try to look them up on youtube to see a trend? No, quit *****ing because you are lazy. If you want everything handed to you on a silver platter, this game can get very tedious and very boring very quickly. If you want that, I can make it happen.

Next challenge, color by numbers.

don't patronize us

when the rules for the game that are posted say to pay close attention to the rules and follow them and not look for loopholes.

Again, specific rules of what's legal or not will be in each challenge PM.

chaseter has been angered... he'll now proceed to start shooting people who trend on his property.

Leadership is making sure everyone is on the same page. Not just spitting crap out and letting them figure out what you meant for them to do. If you don't want to do that then you shouldn't have become a host. It's tedious, yes, but it's part of your responsibility. Other hosts have done it. SF has done it this game. Other games throughout the hype has done it. But apparently you don't? Don't get frustrated at us for becoming upset about a challenge pourly laid out. I know you said this was your favorite, and that's fine, but you should have put more thought into the rules aspect than seeing the outcome. Yes, it would have been tedious, but we probably would have enjoyed doing it more and you would have gotten more enjoyable results. Don't get mad about the criticisms... take them and learn from them.

And by the way, I looked at a good 7 or 8 videos and saw no trend. I know of others who looked at a lot more and didn't catch it either. It's a specific taste in humor and not everyone gets it. You saw things going badly then cat. I saw people acting stupid then cat. Peter Parker was acting stupid, we added the cat. Makes sense to me but it doesn't matter now.

Challenge is over, I don't care anymore. Eager for the next challenge.

Loop holes are found in set of complex, long rules. A loop hole is using a rule to bypass another rule. When the rules are simple, you can do whatever you want...as long as you don't break the rules. If the only rule for a challenge is to not post for 24 hours, someone would post to ask a question and then get mad that they were disqualified. The rules are not complex for a reason. If you want long, drawn out rules detailing every possible bump that could be hit or question that could be posed...I can certainly make it so. You can have fun reading a block of text and no questions can be asked to the hosts. Or you can ask a question to the hosts if you need to know something additional. We aren't perfect, we can't make each challenge go off without a hitch and we understand that.

do you?

you seem more defensive to advice and criticism than anything.

maybe because this is another of your brainchilds :o

Was I a judge for this challenge? No. Did I tell the judges what to look for? No. Your team lost, not because of a lack of rules.

Leadership is making sure everyone is on the same page. Me telling you to not limit yourself to Marvel or DC should have been a huge hint but I gave you all too much credit it seems. I should have listed the thousands of possible movies, tv shows, comics, and fan vids that you could have used. I have learned my lesson and the next challenge will give you all the rules you need to not ask a single question.

isn't it easier for the hosts when they lay enough out that the players don't have to bombard them with questions?

maybe my perception of hosting is off

I got asked only one question this past challenge.:wow:

So you watched 7 or 8 videos and all of them had the same thing. Either something goes wrong and/or someone in pain then the cat plays the keyboard. So you guys do a video with Parker and have the cat play during the stupid dance. You can't pick up on the difference? You don't see a patern after watching 7 or 8 videos? Even if you don't get the humor, you should be able to put 2 + 2 together.

But the creative portion of the challenge... which is what was judged... did suffer because we didn't know we could go outside of superhero films (the rules said superhero... apparently that wasn't what you meant though)

Leadership is making sure everyone is on the same page.

And yet we had two submissions that you were disappointed in because we apparently had two tribes were WEREN'T on the same page as what you wanted. Marvel didn't use the 'oops' moment and DC didn't much use the cat. Obviously you should have done a better job at making sure we were all on the same page. In that aspect, you failed as a leader.

Actually... YES! ABSOLUTELY! DO THAT! Your sarcasm behind, be as detailed about what you expect from us as you possibly can. That is what you are SUPPOSED TO DO!!! Don't just throw crap to the wall and see what comes of it. If you make the challenge... then make the challenge. Don't have us come up with it as we go.

You were clear that we didn't have to limit ourselves to Marvel or DC... no one's disputing that, though for some reason you keep bringing it up... you were NOT clear in that we didn't have to use superheros. That very well may have been because you said we were to use superheroes. Though I love the first Mortal Kombat film and the first 3 games, and though it did have a comic, it was not superhero in the slightest.

Personally, I believe you didn't think the rules through, made a judgement call without thinking about how it would break your own shallowly laid out rules, and now feel the need to defend it and yourself. You won't take criticism and you obviously don't want to learn from this... and if I am correct in this then you and the rest of us are going to be in for a LONG game.

A leader needs to be firm, yes, but he also needs to be careful, and when mistakes are made, he needs to recognize them and learn from them. God knows I had to suck it up a couple times over the year or two I hosted the Contest of Marvels. Don't be so defensive and just prepare to move on. Be a better host for it.

Not every one that I saw had people getting hurt or whatever. I saw one or two that was just people being stupid or doing stupid things. I personally find no humor in people getting hurt so that part never rings for me. I see moreso what they were doing prior to that, as they were being idiots doing idiotic things. The wounding or whatever is just the generic aftermath of their stupid choices.

Anyhow... no, I didn't see the connection. It's not my type of humor.

And how many did you watch, Kal. Did you notice the trend that they all had a kitty cat actually playing the piano and not just the music in the background ;)

Lack of rules aside, when they are in your PM follow them. That means sending your council votes to BOTH hosts

I won't name any names, but please, send your vote to BOTH hosts. That was stated in the PM. Please do so now. I will mention it this one time. If this keeps happening, they will begin counting as votes for yourself. We both need your votes. What if council runs up and I am not around to post results? Or only one of us is on and we're waiting for your vote, which you may have only sent to the other host.

Make sure your votes are sent to BOTH hosts. Thank you :)

I watched a few. Did you see my video? I made two of them. One was outside of the box. Luckily Henchy said it was a bit too outside the box and so I made a new one. Check it out.

That's another problem I had. The judges all seemed to be on different pages as to what they were looking for. This isn't a debate, you can't just vote yes or no on a challenge. This was a creative challenge. The judges should've had specific criteria that we should have been aware of going into this.

i can agree to that

I did. Now that the cat thing's been explained to me I think you did a fine job on it. I still don't get the funny of the cat, but it was well done anyhow

And on that note... rules and Chase's call aside... I hold no ill-will toward DC for the win. You guys did fine and I sincerely do offer my congrats :)

superhero - A figure, especially in a comic strip or cartoon, endowed with superhuman powers and usually portrayed as fighting evil or crime.

Do we not know what a superhero is?

And we all know what the implication is when you hear superhero. You came in and said that we can use non-Marvel and non-DC superheroes. The general thought would be the likes of Spawn, Hellboy, etc. No one thinks, "Hmm, any super powered being that has ever been in comics is now fair game." Its misleading. I don't know why you can't admit that Chase. Sometimes a host has to admit their mistakes. :(

Chase, let it go. If you don't want to take constructive criticism, fine... don't... continue sucking at hosting... making bad calls... whatever. You're only making the game harder on yourself.

Calling me a bad host is not constructive criticism. I thank you for your criticism and for that, the next challenge has been greatly detailed to further help you all out more. I am not going to lie down and take a beating. I reserve that for my bedroom. Ask questions, feel free to ask questions at any time. That is why we both try to be on here so much...so that if anybody has a question, we can answer it quickly. I am sorry you didn't like this challenge and I hope you enjoy future challenges. If you have any doubts, ask...don't assume.
