Shira Haas, who joins as Ruth Bat-Seraph. A former Black Widow, Ruth is now a high-ranking U.S. government official who has the trust of President Thunderbolt Ross.IMG_20240713_022830.jpg

I wonder if she's a mutant in the MCU, and will be called as Sabra?

I liked the character. She was an interesting supporting character; though I wonder if it would have been better-served to combine her character with Leila Taylor since they both played similar supporting roles with jobs inside the Ross administration.

Shira Haas did fine with the material provided but I would have preferred someone like Niv Sultan from AppleTV’s Tehran. Maybe even Gal Gadot (especially if the role was expanded).

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case before the reshoots. The role was reduced and changed, after all, to avoid controversies.
And in regard to that...

Maybe even Gal Gadot

...to avoid controversies, not increase them :hehe:

Kind of weird that this relatively throwaway character drew so much controversy and outrage and had people protesting at screenings of the film.

Also, in the comics, she's a mutant, so they had to throwaway that as well.

I mean, you just need to look at the panel of her with Hulk to see why maybe, name pulling her may not have been the best idea to start with. And then the past year in that region has inflamed the sentiment.

Haha fair enough! I was just thinking her stock was on the fall and had just been given the boot from DC when this movie was getting made; though I won't say Gadot is a good actress, I think she could have given more presence to the Ruth Bat-Seraph / Sabra role.

But agreed, the less controversy in casting, the better.

If her character was just reduced to a right-hand woman for Ross, then maybe I have preferred Cary St. Lawrence. There's nothing wrong with Ruth / Sabra, but I think the actress looked so miscast.

I just remember Cary St. Lawrence from 90s (maybe early 2000s?) Hulk comics. She was like Maria Hill before Maria Hill. I think she took over the Hulkbusters after Ross but wasn't nearly as villain-coded.

I had to look her up.
She doesn’t look super familiar.
I wasn’t big on Heroes Reborn.
I can see how she might have influenced Maria Hill’s character though.

The actress was fine. The role ended up being fine, if definitely underwritten. They honestly could have played up the redemption theme with her Red Room stuff, but it didn't get much attention.

I guess that means I Like an afterthought then.
Being called someone an afterthought isn't a compliment though. Thats like if someone said the movie is bad, and you'd reply with I like a bad movie then.

Or, you are just saying that you like a character others didn’t respond to.

That doesn't make sense as Sabra is a character I didn't like in the movie. I wouldn't call her an afterthought if I did. After the movie ended, I forgot her. I only remembered her once I looked up at the list of characters in the movie.

Also, you don't need to make it always about you, when I posted something about the movie. You did that in the RT thread (Captain America: Brave New World • Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic), and you are doing it again here.

You liked the movie, and you don't see me quoting your posts, trying to discredit what you liked.

My Mistake.
My last quote was intended to infer what I thought. A sort of euphemistic “you”
My sincerest apologies.
I’m Very Sorry.

Yeah, I didn't think much of the character or actress. Female characters in general weren't great in the movie and I feel the actress was a bit mis-cast.
