Kez,

Wow! That's actually looking fantastic. I have a pretty descent machine, but way it's looking, and how they code this might bring my notebook to it's knees. We shall see, tho.

So what's the verdict on this. I am sorely tempted to just buy it. I love feudal Japan era stuff and Samurai stuff as well. Is this worth a buy??

It's well-done, though how much you'll like it really depends on if you like Total War games.

The diplomacy is pretty messed, though. More so than previous TW games.

Are you refering to everyone suddently becoming an enemy? I saw most people complaining about everyone turning against you on the steam forum. Personally I like it, when I became a super-power in Empire it became a mopping up job with not much point playing on. Even when I take Kyoto there is still challange up until I have completly grinded out the other clans.

Another clan was added yesterday. Adds a new Monk agent and skill tree's.

No. While the Realm Divide is a mixed bag mostly depending on clan placement, I'm more concerned with pre-Divide diplomacy. When other clans are listed as Friendly, Very Friendly, or whatever the top most dispositions are, there's no reason for them to refuse every possible diplomatic request, even trade agreements. There's even less reason for them to refuse when they're your ally.

Also, the diplomacy system probably shouldn't be as easy to exploit as being in a war with a nation, kicking the crap out of their army, offering a peace treaty, and then extorting them for thousands and thousands of whatever monetary unit I don't remember.

Have you tried to arrange a marriage or incited a cival war with a monk?
The more you ask them the less likely they are to agree.

Total War has always been exploitable in multiple respects. When Shogun 2 launched the AI per usual would bugger up at siege battles. Regardless of an army three times the size of mine they would stand around waiting to be picked off. Or only a small sect of there army would army would attack. Or I could lure them in one by one rather than getting massacres, which is what should happen. Alot of settlements would just get stocked up on cheap bowman, regardless of how big and bad the army was it would just loose moral before it could get over the wall.

Another problem is agents, while it's great they are more important in this game, like the first Shogun, you can cripple every army without fighting. Monks can have entire clans have civil war and spamming ninja's can cripple armies from attacking bases. The AI's Metsuke agents are useless against them even on the higher difficulty and the AI's Geishas/Ninja's are pretty useless at killing off your generals. The multiplayer was pretty broken as well. I doubt they will ever launch a game without these niggles. I'd still rank it as my GOTY so far though.

Finally bought this two days ago. It's crazy. It's a lot deeper than I thought. I was under the impression that it would just be a game where you lead armies and thats that. It's much deeper and I like that. I'm still reading guides and doing the tutorials. My only complaint thus far is the font size. I can barely read the text. It's frustrating, but doesn't distract too much from the fun of it.

Yeah, the game is very well done. You can even skip the battles by auto-resolving them, so it's less about those than all the deeper stuff.

I kind of like that option. I've used it a few times. If I know for sure I'll win, I do the auto-resolve. Saves me time

If you are playing on a tv that's probably the reason why.
It's designed for a desk. No big blocko Oblivion text.

I just play on my laptop right now. The graphics have to be at a much lower resolution to play on it, so that might explain my text problem

10 new elite units have been added.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/34342/

The Total War: SHOGUN 2 Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack adds 10 new elite units for use across the different game modes of SHOGUN 2. Once you've purchased the content, you will unlock all 10 of these versatile units in single and multiplayer Campaign mode under the conditions stated below. They will also be available in the Avatar Conquest and single player Battle modes of the game when playing with the appropriate clan.

1) Bulletproof Samurai unit – Date clan

It takes true samurai to charge into musket fire – and prevail!
  • Bulletproof armour makes them very resilient against matchlocks
  • Heavy armour makes them slow
  • Very good armour and melee defence
  • Very good vs. cavalry
  • Average melee attack
Construction requirements in Campaign mode
  • Yari Dojo
  • Armoury
2) Marathon Monk – Uesugi or Ikko Ikki clan (Ikko Ikki clan requires the Ikko Ikki Clan Pack available on Steam)

For some targets a simple musket is disrespectful. Better by far to use a heavy gun.

It's too bad you can't see it in all it's visual glory, the visuals are way more impressive than Battlefield 3 imo.

Here's a mod that disabled realm devide if you want a walk in the park.
It's quite good if you just want to play around with the higher level units.
