How necassary is a HD TV for your enjoyment of the Xbox 360?

My tv is fairly small. I'm thinking, maybe I should just buy a bigger tv nevermind HD. Either way, I haven't got the money to buy both a new TV and a 360.

I bought mine a few days ago and its ok on the smaller screen but you are missing out on alot of the detail but luckily for me my 42inch tv is just being repaired at the moment.

so yeah it is still good but i would save for a bigger tv

Visually speaking, next-gen games never really look truly next-gen unless you're playing them on an at least 720p resolution capable HDTV. Really, the difference between seeing something in standard defintion and high definition is astonishing. And it holds true for both games and movies.

My advice? Instead of expensive plasmas or LCDs, get a relatively inexpensive CRT HDTV. Their only disadvantage is that they're heavier, bulkier and more space-hungry than your average LCD or plasma. If those factors aren't much of a concern to you, then you simply can't go wrong with a CRT. Even after massive progresses in LCD and plasma technology to date, neither one can produce as rich colors or black levels as an HD-capable CRT.

Hold off on getting a 360 until you buy an HDTV. It will make your experience that much more complete and pleasurable as you will be playing next-gen games the way they are meant to be played.

^^thats kinda silly. in order for you to fully enjoy hidef games you need to shell out another 500-1200 for HDTV to experience true next gen games. lol.

It will take me forever to afford HD. I'll just buy a 360 and then, in years time or whenever I can afford it, I'll buy a HD tv.

I just wanted to know if it makes that much of a difference. Y'know, if I'll be playing games and thinking "this looks so lame on my small, non-HD tv".

Presumably when you play the 360, you're going to get enjoyment for reasons other than the graphics.

In short, no, you don't need a large, HDTV to get some enjoyment from your 360. Things are going to look better on a bigger, better screen, but that's no reason not to get a 360 at all.

When I bought my 360 last feb I was using an Apex tv:( I was complaning the graphics wasnt much of a improvment from PS2! Than I got a 32' Samsung LCD/HD in September, and I havent complained since!

I've got a 30" Insignia and it is capable of 1080i. It looks pretty good for a Best Buy-in-house brand

I've got a metre wide wal-mart special. :(
It works just fine.

Please, drag your head out of the sand - HD isn't good for just gaming, but all manner of viewing purposes. All your movies, games and TV shows look significantly sharper, with greater picture detail and richer color when playing on a true progressive scan (720p and above) HD capable set. The resolution of HD sets is twice that of normal televisions. Think of it not as some money grubbing gimmick, but rather an investment in progressive technology - kind of like how when you put money on a DVD player even though your VHS worked fine.

To put it bluntly, do refrain from making idiotic statements about something you are completely ignorant of. Walk down to your local electronics store and see the difference yourself. Then come back here to tell me whether or not HD is worth the money.

Or buy a good PC monitor and connect the 360 to it.

I have a Samsung 940BW, that´s 19'' widescreen, 1440x900 (HDTV ready), HDCP, which is more than fine.
But i don´t have a 360 yet :(

I heard the 360 looks great with a VGA connection as well. I think it was Mentok who posted comparison pics of 360 games looking a bit more vibrant on a PC monitor. I think he's right - I've had to turn up the brightness settings in some of the games (Gears of War, Condemned, Double Agent) because they were too dark.

They're supposed to be dark, you just ruined the entire feel of the game.
You bastard.:csad:

I said "too" dark, as in so dark I can't even see my own character or weapon.
