Apologize for a failed attempt at humor, or apologize for being critical of the prez?

Neither deserve an apology
Even he said he "left words out". "The botched joke" sounds almost as bad as "wardrobe manfunction". Your listening to Democratic spin by believing he "botched a joke":whatever: . Yeah when I prepare a speech which is reviewed by tons of editors, I leave tons of words out and make "botched jokes":whatever: .

If he meant "Bush is an idiot and got us into Iraq" then say that. He didn't, instead he decided to take some jab at being smart versus going to war...and implemented troops in the process. If it was a metaphor, then don't use troops as the metaphor...he ought to be smarter than that.

By letting him off the hook essentially your saying everytime Bush goes back on what he says and backtreads, that's okay too.

According to Tim Russert, the Democrats are not happy with Kerry's remarks, hell Harold Ford Jr. came out and said Kerry should apologize. A key to being a good politician is being suspect of what you say and do. Kerry, as of now, is not. He offended a lot of people with his comment, he should apologize. If you don't mean it, it should not be hard to apologize. And by not doing this he is making a headline out of this, detracting from any real issues out there.

No. It makes them look worse than they already are. The only people who DON'T want Kerry to apologize are the people who already vote for him. If the Dems want more voters, they have to create a more positive image. And that requires Kerry to swallow his pride and apologize. By not apologizing, he is doing the Republicans job of making him look bad.
As usual the Republicans are rewarded for their smear campaigns.

I don't read the newspaper:whatever:

I was just speaking in general. Just like when Clinton was president...the sex scandal made page 1 while his good works on the econonmy and the national debt went unnoticed to the casual American.

Then you have no grounds for your comments.

of course the democrats are upset over his remarks. they don't want any bad press around election time. this takes the focus away from the republican's f-ups. anyway, he's apologized, which is more than someone like tom delay has done.

that's a pretty good impersonation of an uninformed conservative. can you do humphrey bogart?
I am neither conservative nor liberal. I am bi-partisan and think aspects of both parties are needed. Your statements sound like a pompous liberal, can you do a Karl Marx?

Just like the Democrats. That's all politicians do anymore. They don't bother making themselves look good, just making their opponents look bad. This goes to all parties. If Kerry apologized, he not only makes himself and the party look better but also diminishes any chance of there being an ad that quotes him saying this.

I was joking jack @ss. I know a hell of a lot about politics and America's history. I watch the news everyday and I vote in every election. Your probably one of those people who never vote and then complain about the people in power.

Sorry, but you statement sounded extremely uninformed. My apologies for calling you a conservative.

Duke Cunningham managed to squeeze out a tearfull apology. Of course, he wouldn't own up to doing anything wrong until he was actually caught, so it's not like he had a choice.

Yeah so rather than make everyone else distance themselves from you...apologize.:whatever: You guys are making Republicans look sane with this...the point was no one understood what he was getting at, I didn't, my mom and dad (who are all from Massachusetts and voted for Kerry...hell my Dad's been there 55 years)...I've listened to this about 15 times on the news. What he said was offensive, so f***ing apologize.

So because the Republicans don't apologize, Democrats should not either. I thought you guys wanted change.

This thread is going to be Exhibit A when I tell my friends why I'm moving to England.

I listened to the Imus clip, he said "I am sorry I botched a joke, I don't like to botch jokes". He should say "I am sorry what I said was offensive, I never meant it and I won't make a statement like that again".
