So let's be honest. While Marvel does have the rights of a lot of characters, not all them might be worth taking the risk of a $150M summer blockbuster. Assuming they can get three movies out of IM, Thor, Cap, and Avengers, what next after that? How do they stay profitable? I would be disappointed if they just did reboots every 10 years. So while they can make smaller DTV films or tv shows, the real money is in the summer blockbuster. So should they try to expand make non-comic films? Maybe try to find the next District 9, or Bourne series? Or should they just stick to comic properties?

Well, they do have many, many more comic books besides Iron Man, Captain America, Thor. And they are planning on making modestly budgeted films based on their lesser known characters. So that's what Marvel has planned for the future.

Marvel have some characters who might not be super powered. Their films could be like non-comic films to the general audience. These are characters like Jessica Jones, Dakota North etc.

Also, if Marvel didn't just produce comic book action movies, it might actually free them up to do other projects using some of the Marvel characters but just not about their comic battles. Although this won't apply in this case, in the comics wasn't there a mini series about Uncle Ben and Aunt May's early life before they were married, when they just met? It was more of a romance. Of course, Marvel wouldn't be able to use those characters because they're owned by Sony, but they could do something similar with other ones.

That way Marvel could produce some "real life" dramas, romantic comedies etc. Only pure comic fans would be in the know that these are actually comic book characters, but to everyone else it might just seem they're standard hollywood movies. These movies would be produced IN ADDITION to the big action blockbuster movies which could then debut any time of the year and don't need to have a huge box office return. Comic fans could go to see them as a change of pace, or non-comic fans could go to see them thinking that they're just seeing a different genre of film without realizing they're actually seeing a Marvel movie.
