With LR's report of what seems to be Det. Montoya joining the Gordon's ranks in the GCPD - should her lesbianism be brought up? Would it add to a character, or take away from a movie?

Only if the character has a significant role, I think. If she has a very small part, it could come off as gratuitous.

it's too early i say, but i suppose they could hint at it (or just do it in a sequel)

maybe a diff cop (bullock?) making a joke to her? the audience would think it's just a crack, but the fans in the know would like it

I don't care what they do with it. They can bring it up, wouldn't matter. Just as long as it isn't involved as it's own separate plot point. That brings nothing to the film.

bring batwoman in dammit!lol well im not sure i know it isnt anything bad but what about the kids who watch the movie going up to their parents,'whats a lesbian?' lol

It brings lesbianism.

Lesbianism is always welcome to a thread.

I voted no because if she's starting her career then no point going her been a lesbian storyline. There is so much better to tell than Rene been a lesbian.

I'm not bothered either way,if they are gonna make it clear she is a lesbian lets hope they do it smoothly and not in a tacky "Oh look how cutting edge we are,we have a Lesbian character"

It would seem unnecessary. The sexuality of these characters, gay or straight, rarely comes into play in a film like this. As a matter of fact, with the exception of Bruce, his parents, Rachel and Gordon, the sexuality of any of these characters is up to interpretation.

For all we know, Flass could spend his spare time dressing in drag and stepping on men. But it doesn't factor into his role as a crooked cop, so it doesn't need to be brought up.

who cares? i doubt it'll be a significant part of the film...

if for some reason Montoya says "after chasing Batman over rooftops all night, I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife", sure, why not? otherwise, I don't care.

i can see it now:
Gordon: Batman.. this is offiser Montoya... shes a muffdiver! *wink wink*

*yawn*

she won't be a major character, and it would be a forced effort to include it. is anybody else getting a little tired of the overall obsession with sexual preference? seriously...

i voted yes just for the heck of it lol

It depends on the size of her role. If its big then sure, but if its small then there's no point to bring it up.

Not in this movie. They should hold it back until three, after Two-Face is fixated on her.

Lesbianism is nothing to be ashamed off, and the same goes to being gay, but i agree, if her role is a small one, there is no reason to address it.
Sure, it would make the movie more in tune with the real world, but, there is real point in addressing it.

On a side note, what is going in Batman´s universe?
I haven´t reading Batman lately, but everyone it seems is either lesbian or bi, what gives?
Too much is too much...

I don't see what would be the significance of making her a lesbian really. Batwoman isn't in this and it just seems unnecessary.

Besides, she probably isn't going to be that big of a character. I expect the same screentime as she got on "BTAS." A few lines, some action, and clowning around with Bullock. Nothing to big or satisfying really.

I don't see how it could hurt or help the movie.

I mean, say there is a scene where Montoya is worn out from the day and walks into her apartment where she prepares for bed and/or just grabs a drink and relaxes for the night then a woman enters and asks "how was your day?"

Does a scene like that help or hurt? I really don't care. But I don't think so.

It's not like said scene might happen then a rauchy love scene will occur. Or another scene where Motoya just blantantly states "stop or I'll shoot... or kiss a girl!!"

It is who she is ... it neither hurts nor helps the movie but is true to the character ...
