Should prostitution be legal in the U.S?

Hookers don't solve loneliness.

You need a girlfriend for that.

I think most here want it to be legal because they can't find a girlfriend ;)
I still think it's a bit imoral and sick to sell people's bodies like that

I'm torn. As much as I hate to subsidize what I feel to be a fundamentally psychologically and physically unhealthy and dehumanizing activity, I weigh the cons and pros. From my fundamentally libertarian mindset, I pretty much believe people should be allowed to do whatever the hell they want as long as they're not hurting anyone. Also, if it was legalized and regulated, that could make serious strides toward policing violence toward prostitutes, "licensing" prostitutes and differentiating from women forced into it, and requiring health screenings to prevent the spread of HIV and other stds through prostitution.

At the bottom line, I give legalization of prostitution a reluctant, conflicted "Yes"...but I would also like if its legalization and regulation had a long-term goal of fazing it out, not expanding it.

I do find something fundamentally repellent about buying and selling human bodies for pleasure.

There's so many guys who have girlfriends who have never been with a red head or asian girl. They've never had a threesome or S&M. Prostitution allows anyone to have these experiences who has a little extra money.

I think it's sick that someone would tell another person what they can do with their own bodies.

It's not your body or life so it's none of your business. :yay:

I see your point :cwink:

I don't think it should. There are already too many women trapped in that kind of slavery. Legalizing it is to say slavery is OK.

Not all sex workers are slaves. Some women like getting paid hundreds of dollars to make some guy climax in 10 minutes.

A vast majority are slaves. The small minority that actually likes it can get real jobs or move into the porn industry. That's no excuse for slavery.

So you're saying in places like Nevada where prostitution is legal and regulated that those women work against their will?

You're uninformed at best.

I'd support it fully if done properly but legalizing prostitution allows a lot of human trafficking to happen.

They don't have a human trafficking problem in Neveada where prostitution is legal. In fact the trafficking is far worse in states where prostitution is illegal.

They say Las Vegas has one of the highest rates of child prostitution.

Prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas.

Well , here's an article that links it to Reno , which is close to the mustang ranch.

The problem is always going to be there. A place like the bunny ranch can keep it under control using background checks and other means. I think if you open the floodgates a lot will slip through the cracks though.

That's a reasonable concern.

But I think if it is properly regulated and conducted many women can conduct their business in a safe and peaceful environment. It won't be like other places we're almost all the hookers have forceful pimps and/or have to worry about homocidal or abusive customers (because the sex would take place in a secure brothel).

Some of the brothels in Germany have high end security. They have cameras in the room. The only downside is some girls will rip you off by not doing everything you ask for. The outside area is very seedy though.
At least the Bunny Ranch seems to have a nice set-up. They do appointments but also seem a bit pricey. It's a little bit different because they seem to establish relations with customers for repeat business. It's almost like a traveling business man meeting a mistress in some regard.
It can work, just depends on who's running it and if all the regulations are being upheld. I'd never recommend business with a street walker or someone running business from an apartment though.

This is often one of the few forms of income those in poverty can make and like exotic dancing, it can make more money that most work jobs.

Having done a great deal of research on the subject and having been involved with groups breakign women out of slavery of prostitution. No. I'm really not.

I say prostitution should be legal but regulated. Meaning, some new agency goes around and randomly checks the health of the prostitutes. But, this should be a state's decision and not a federal law. These should also be state run inspections with only federal oversight of the state inspections to keep an eye on interstate issues.
