I thought Sony and everyone learned their lesson from their previous film..... But I guess that isn't the case :/

I understand that they're not doing well right now (because you know, the PS4 is selling well while shutting down a billion other properties..... Because you guys think it's funny to make fun of everyone else in poverty!), but the first movie was a surprise hit for a reboot. Naturally, it'd be a smart thing to use what people liked about the first one and fixed whatever problem it had with the sequel. However, Sony believes that people still lives in the year 2007 and we had to go backwards in terms of being different.

Perhaps the biggest problem with the first film was that there wasn't enough of certain things..... Though, one plot point also didn't contribute to the quality of the second one. The fact that everyone from Marc Webb to the production team talking about how there's cut scenes from the movie pretty much speaks for itself.

I know that people are still into the Raimi series and all, but putting elements within the new series THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE DIFFERENT  Not only are they making the same mistakes, they're somehow making new ones!

Yes, they should give more creative control but they won't. That's why their films are failing & they are a laughing stock.

This is the same thing that happened with the proposed Spider-Man 4. Sam Raimi was told he had complete creative control but every time he had an idea Sony was there to say "no wait, this is a better idea" until he had enough & quit.

It's sad, really. You hire a director/screenwriter to create their vision, so why obstruct it?

And the reboot wasn't all that much of a success, it cost over $200 million & didn't even make $300 million. Neither of TASM films have been huge hits, actually. They've both performed mediocre.

The first one made $752million. To Sony, that was an impressive feat.... At the time. I think it's too early to say the second one is a flop, but if it doesn't make it past the $800million mark, then Sony should really consider the elephant in the room.

There's no way they give up more control at this point.

If ASM3 bombs they'll lose the rights for sure.

No one is going to risk the rights to Spider-man to respect a single artist's "vision".

ASM and ASM2 may not be TDK level (even if I loved ASM2 personally) they are still considered pretty good.

They're considered good by some, but not enough.

And TASM 2 crossing $800 million is not enough. People always think a bigger number at the box office ALWAYS means better, but that's not it.

For TASM 2 to be a genuine success, it would need to have made between $300-400 million domestically considering its budget was over $200 million. But as it stands, even with this new weekend coming up, it still won't even hit $200 million.

It is great that the overseas turn out was what it was, but if the movie can't bring in big crowds on the home front that's a very bad thing.

By comparison The Winter Soldier cost $170 million & to date has earned over $251 million in the U.S. alone. THAT'S a success & numbers to be proud of.

Point blank, Sony shot themselves in the ass.

I concur with the consensus of the thread. I have zero confidence in a S6 or the symbiote saga, or MJ's inclusion because Sony really isn't interested in telling a good story. Its about about holding on to the rights, and selling toys, so even if they get a new creative team , they'll dictate them and mandate more corner cutting foolishness. They've done it with Raimi and Webb , so i'm skeptical they'll really let a new creative team think outside the box or come at the project with a different perspective.

they should really just hire the Spider-Man 2 writers...

I'm hoping for a director's cut of TASM2 on DVD and Blu-Ray just so I can see if it's an improvement. Otherwise I'm not going to bother with TASM3 and I hope that Sony sells the rights back to Marvel.

There's a rumor going around now that Sinister Six might take the 2016 slot for ASM3 just to inject some life back into the franchise.

The premise behind the rumor is that Drew Goddard's exit from Daredevil may have been prompted by a rush to make S6.
