Now that most of the world is using the metric system we're just about the only people left. People that aren't using the metric system are in blue.

Only if England converts to the Euro.

We probably should, but I don't see it as that big of a deal. It seems like most of us can use it when we have to, it's just those on-the-spot conversions that are tough.

Should we? Yes. Will we? Hell no. The way I understand it, they were preparing for the US to switch to metric back in the 1970s, but the plans were scrapped. Some of the people running the country right now were taught "metric is the future" back in high school.

1. Every other country is using it.

2. It makes a whole lot more sense.

All it will do is cause more confusion over the Spider-Man 3figure scale.

why should we tho?

because it will standardise every single interaction Americans have with other countries involving measurements. use your damn noggin. think about all the construction that happens, that's just a start. it will save time, money and effort

I don't think we necessarily need to convert. However, learning the metric system IS important, it justs seems like way too much of a hassle to officially "convert."

Since most scientists and people working with technology in the states already use the metric system... yes I think the U.S. should officially switch. Granted there will be a few years where both systems will be in use, but all in all, eventually it would just make things easier. You would no longer have to really think about inches to a foot, feet to a yard, yards to a mile. It would always be 10 millimetres to a centimetre, 100 centimetres to a metre, 1000 metres to a kilometre (increments of 10)

I vote yes. I prefer metric. Saying that, we use a mix of both here- conversion didn't really go down all that well.

The US should switch.

At one point they tried, but it was too confusing for the mass populace of Americans, so they stayed with the standard system.

Disney films are far too confusing for the mass populace of Americans.

Seriously though, I don't think governments should cater to the lowest common denominator. If some people will find it too confusing, then they should get off their asses and [i[learn[/i] about it.

Hell yes. English Units are the most confusing things in the world. The entire system seems incredibly arbitrary 12 in to 1 ft... and then 3 ft. to 1 yd. and by the time you get to miles you can't tell what method is behind this convoluted madness... and if anyone who is not a meteorologist can make sense of Fahrenheit they have my respect. Metric is far more accessible, much easier to compute on the fly, and is the standard for the vocation that demands accurate measurements: science. There is no reason why we should be hanging on to an outdated system.

I know that we SHOULD......but I don't feel like figuring out the conversions for everything :lazy:

Metric would be better.

I don't think I could order a 1/4 pounder with Cheese with out snickering. If we did switch.
